STILL TRUE: "We are the ones we've been waiting for."
We are the change we seek. Can't part of the change be that we bring the rhetoric down a little bit? The outright nastiness on here is deplorable. And yes...I mean even the Obama folks who are trashing Hillary with over the top hate speech. Let's remember what she DID do for us. Can you imagine Bob and Libby Dole in the White House? Or another 4 years of Bush Senior? We can be glad the Clintons were a firewall against the rampant conservatism and selfish greed as well as autocratic control freaks of the new Republican majority in the 90's.

Still, it is time for a change all the way around. Obama isn't related to someone in Washington. Obama isn't part of the Beltway Borg. Yes, he will need to plug into it a bit to get anything done...but we need change on DU. We need change in Oregon. We need change in Texas. Everywhere I look, we need a new start.

Obama provides that, and the progressive agenda of liberal Democrats can help provide it in local government, grass roots organizations, the Senate and House....Obama is going to need a lot of help.

BUt we can start right now by simmering down the language. Yes, we're all excited about what might be possible for us as individuals and as a nation in about 8 days. We may see a decisive push toward Obama's victory. I look forward to that day also because Hillary can make a case as Senate majority leader.

Can you imagine that? An African American president, a woman as speaker of the House, and a woman as Senate majority leader. Our country can turn around because WE, the PEOPLE, want to turn it around.

Let's get busy.

8. YES! We Can!
it sounds trite. but Noam Chomsky and so many others have pointed out that when the American people get exercised about something they REALLY can do something about it.

11. Exactly!!
I just heard on a news show that the ONLY times in history when there was a major governmental change, the people were involved, enough to take to the streets....think about it.
I'm in OHIO, and can't wait to vote next week!

3. Sadly, many Obama supporters have turned people away
I don't think that will change anytime soon, either. Many are saying they won't vote for him. I will, but very, very reluctantly. If "we" is some of Obama's supporters, I want no part of the "change we seek," thank you.

4. I hear you. One thing I've noticed about all this
whether it's on sports message boards with one team against another or a general topic message board with both sides at each other's throats about gun control or immigration or abortion, whether it's here on DU, etc. etc. I find we are quickly able to separate ourselves off into little factions. Then the defense of our position sometimes becomes more important than civility or what the purpose of all of this was in the first place.

We want a better country. I'm guessing if we took a poll on here, we'd find nearly 100% here want a better country for ourselves and for our neighbors. No matter what you might think, I'm sure the vast majority of Obamites who said things a little nasty or over the top aren't normally like that. I bet you they are good decent human beings who care about this country.

I bet the same thing is true about the Hillary folks who are posting really petty and/or vile things about Obama. We all REALLY CARE A LOT about the country and think we know best which choice will get us there.

Many HIllary supporters don't trust this guy they don't know much of. Many Obama supporters don't trust the woman they know too much about. What this choice is really about is not whether their agenda fits our worldview--it does. What it is all about is....which do the Democratic voters REALLY believe will bring about these things they both speak about?

I say after this election Clinton, Obama, Kerry, Clark, Edwards, Dean...the whole lot of them should band together for one purpose--take back the White House, get to a filibuster proof majority, and then work really hard to set this country on the right track.

9. Thanks, PretzelWarrior, you're one of the good guys
I have friends who support Obama, and we have good discussions. Sometimes they're heated, but nobody insults each other personally like I see here. Nor do my friends demand that Hillary get out of the race, as if it's somehow wrong for anyone to even run against Obama.

I'll vote for him if he's the nominee, but I intend to be one of the many who will hold his feet to the fire.

10. good! because that's when the change needs to happen.
once he's elected (please! please! please!) that is only the very beginning of the start. he better do what the people want and do it for 8 years and keep people wanting more. because we seriously need at least 12 years of progressive thought and practice in the federal government to get unstuck from this muck we're in.

7. I'll probably wind up voting for him
But it'll be the first time in 27 years I don't campaign on the phone --or even at least wear a campaign button.

And I probably won't feel any of the usual pleasure in my vote.

12. "we are the ones we've been waiting for "?
Why is it there is always someone in the wings that is being waited for . Where the hell were all the people in this fucked up , screwed up shithouse of a country before and SUDDENLY when everything is complete crap this is when people decide to do something about it . Why is that ?

I cannot believe everyone here piling on the Obama band wagon was under voting age when bush jr stole two elections and was allowed free run to utterly destroy this country .

Is this what this country is , a population of people hidding somewhere until they are hit by some wave and lose everything and if not then they allow it to happen to someone else , then someone rides in on a white horse and everyone jumps out from behind the bushes and into the light and finally gives a shit ?

Now you are the ones everyone has been waiting for , well you're a bit late for those who are now dead or lost in this wilderness of damage .

People are waiting for the second coming as well , hell it's only been over what , 2,000 years and while people missed the message here you are waiting once again .

15. I guess you don't understand how this can be. Motivation
if "the crowds" are waiting for their savior, it is often because everyone is telling them that is the case. When a person motivates people to see things differently and to see that they themselves can and should not only envision but implement change....then that is where the power resides.

A LEADER is a leader precisely because of his ability to unlock the potential in many people. He LEADS them down a particular path, but they are the ones who take heed and take action.

Until people realize that, they cannot possibly become the change they themselves seek.
