My wife's best friend has been with his partner for 28 years....I've seen what they've had to do in terms of community property, power of attorney, medical decisions, home ownership...
I don't know how you feel, because I haven't been in your shoes, but I would say that in this uptight, clusterfuck repressed nation of ours that the dream of your marriage denied must be outrageous and painful. I would have voted for it 35 years ago had that been an option. I'd vote for it right now if I could. To NOT have full equality is not acceptable.
But the essence of the statement I made stands, I think. If the republican/NEOCON machine stays in power I don't really believe any of us are going to have ANY voice in our lives anymore.
I truly think those weasels are capable of breaking out pink triangles and barbed wire fences.
That statement seems over the top until I think about Rendition, and the "Violent Radicalization and Homegrown Terrorism Prevention Act of 2007" that targets "bookstores, bathhouses, libraries, mosques, online chat rooms" to find those who the NEOCONS figure could be "terrorists".
Will they call you and your partner 'sexual terrorists?' I want to see you gain full equality immediately, but we cannot achieve that until the NEOCONS are "another failed political dead end on the funeral pyre of history..." to paraphrase a conservative asshat who couldn't say the word 'homosexual'.
Oh, and about the sexual repression in this country? Man, you are on your own there. I wouldn't know where to start.
Peace
