Dodd to Endorse Obama today.
http://www.connpost.com/breakingnews/ci_8366613

WASHINGTON Democratic Sen. Christopher Dodd of Connecticut plans to endorse former presidential rival Barack Obama, the Associated Press has reported.
Dodd will endorse his colleague, a senator from Illinois, in Cleveland today, according to a Democratic official close to Dodd who requested anonymity because no formal announcement had been made.

Dodd's support could provide a boost for Obama as major contests near in big states such as Ohio and Texas on March 4. Obama has won some key Democratic endorsements in recent weeks, including Massachusetts Sen. Edward Kennedy, a close friend of Dodd.

Obama and rival Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton had been vying for Dodd's support since he exited the presidential race after a poor showing in the Iowa caucus last month. Dodd, who won his Senate seat in 1980 and chaired the Democratic National Committee from 1995-1996, has long-standing ties to the Clintons.

Dodd is a "superdelegate," one of nearly 800 Democratic officeholders and party officials who automatically attend the national convention and can vote for whomever they choose. They have become an important force in the close race between Clinton and Obama, and both candidates are lobbying hard for their support.

During the campaign, Dodd cast himself as an experienced leader who unites people. He stressed his long Senate career, foreign policy experience and work on education and children's issues. But his long-shot candidacy, overshadowed by the huge campaign accounts and star power of Clinton and Obama, never caught fire.

2. Dodd is shaping up to be a true HERO.
Now if he would formally repudiate the DLC,
I would become his slave.

If he had done so before the primary season had
begun, I would have worked for him.

3. Dodd was my early on favorite
He would be a good VP choice, unless it means we lose his Senate seat.

7. This will make about as much difference
as the Kennedy, Winfrey, and Farakhan endorsements and about as much difference as all those endorsements for Clinton. I really hate to burst yer bubbles and be the bearer of bad tidings but we Dems over 60 who have been voting for about 40 years now understand Rethuglican logic quite well.

Republican Logic 101

1: Have republican controlled media to kill very scary bitchy like front runner=
2: Have Republican controlled polls skewered to show second scary runner up as savior of the world=
3: Divide Democrats so those who support #1 will say stupid things like "we will burn down your house if you support #1 and not #2" or "we hate anyone who does not support #2 over #1."=
4: Kill #2 in the media slowly by showing his weakness, lack of patriotism, lack of experience, previous possible corrupt dealings, alliances with unsavory characters etc... etc...=
5: Win big election in November 2008=
6: More wars, more big government, more spying, more torture, no health care, more uncontrolled global warming, no energy policies, no jobs, back street abortions, no gay marriage, no help for the American people, no dreams.

11. You may be right with respect to those with a longer voting tradition, but...
I think there is a good chance that with so many first-time voters the scenario may be played out differently (hope so, anyway).

14. now that's a clueless post.
Kennedy and Oprah have clearly been a boost to his campaign. He went from being over 20 points behind in CA to losing by less than 10. Oprah dominated the news cycle for days. That's always good when it's not negative coverage. Farrakhan has zip to do with Kennedy and Oprah.

Your whinging list is absurd. It is not solely the MSM that damaged Hilly. It's her own incredibly inept campaign and the candidate herself.

17. What is a "whinging" list?
As a retired English teacher, I find it helps to maintain a bit of clarity in your spelling so people know what you are talking about. If you care to try again, I will be happy to help you with Republican logic and thinking.

22. Pathetic that an English teacher
doesn't know that "whinging" is common slang in England. It means whining or whiny. Furthermore, there was no clarity in your inartful and barely coherent post. Perhaps you've simply never traveled and have an insular little life. I certainly pity your ex-students if this your poor writing is what you held up as an example of clarity. How sad.

23. And you've been able to do nothing about it.
You understand their logic, and have lost most of the elections in the last 40 years. In fact, you've won 3 and lost 7. Maybe it's time to let someone new take over.

24. I wouldn't mind the sudden influx of whingers on this board,
Edited on Tue Feb-26-08 10:09 AM by Occam Bandage
but the problem with their whinging is that said whinging is often most uninformed whinging. The Kennedy endorsement clearly helped Obama; Kennedy forced Clinton to spend money in California, where she went from being 20 points up to only 10. Meanwhile, Obama made up 20 points nationally in the time between the endorsement and Super Tuesday. Finally, Kennedy's endorsement led to a string of superdelegate switches.

The Winfrey endorsement most likely helped him in Iowa; he went from being down there to winning outright. Not sure how much she can be credited, but three days of uninterrupted positive news coverage always helps.

"Farakhan?" I find it helps to maintain a bit of clarity in your spelling so people know what you are talking about.

Next, your "Republican Logic 101" is simply nonsense. Really, if the Republicans could snap their fingers and take Hillary out with a thought, I would say that proves that she is not fit to run in the general election.

Finally, whinge whinge whinge whinge whinge whinge whinge.

25. All of the tactics listed are only affective to the sheeple that...
walk through life with their eyes closed to reality. I think you can look at the Democratic turnouts and see that allot of people are waking up to the games being played because more and more folks lives are going to shit. I am very happy I am not one of the ignorant people that fall for the style of politics listed. If you are one of those people that fall for those games, I hope you wake up and join the rest of us that are looking for much needed change in our politics...we need everyones help!

12. Email from Dodd
Dear XXX,

We have been through a lot in this past year and your friendship and support have meant so much to me. That is why I wanted to let you know of my decision to endorse a Democratic candidate for President - and that I have decided to support Barack Obama.

We all understand how much is at stake in this election and that it is more important than ever that we put a Democrat in the White House.

And while both of our Party's remaining candidates are extremely talented and would make excellent commanders-in-chief, I am throwing my support to the candidate who I believe will open the most eyes to our shared Democratic vision.

I'm deeply proud to be the first 2008 Democratic presidential candidate to endorse Barack Obama. He is ready to be President. And I am ready to support him - to work with him and for him and help elect him our 44th President.

Put simply, I believe Barack Obama is uniquely qualified to help us face this housing crisis, create good jobs, strengthen America's families in this 21st century global economy, unite the world against terrorism and end the war in Iraq - and perhaps most importantly, call the American people to shared service and sacrifice. In this campaign, he has drawn millions of voters into politics for the first time in their lives and shown us that we are united by so much more than that which divides us.

That is why I believe the time has come for Democrats to come together as a Party and focus on winning the general election. The stakes are too high not to.

The last seven years have been as difficult as any I can remember. More than ever, we need a President who will inspire us to take part in the political process and change our country's path.

Today, when we need it most, we are hearing a new call from Barack Obama. And I hope you, like me, will answer it in the affirmative.

Please get involved in Barack Obama's campaign now: http://action.barackobama.com/doddsupporters

Sincerely,

Chris Dodd
