One of the things I most admire about Obama...
is his refusal to go along with the crowd and put that little flag pin on his lapel. I understand his sentiments exactly. Perhaps it is because our birthdays are only 2 days apart? He will not be stampeded into doing anything he does not feel is right. He knows the flag pin is an idiotic and trivial display of fake patriotism. It symbolizes nothing except that those who wear it are more apt to vote to invade another country rather than think for themselves. I respect him for opposing the fake patriots.

1. He didn't just refuse to go along...
he shot their whole argument down. He's done what people wished John Kerry had done four years ago.

2. I agree. Those pins were/are a joke. Supposedly, if you didn't wear
one, you weren't patriotic. So untrue. He won't be categorized in that way, and I give him props for that.

6. Ha! That is funny! He really emphasized the ridiculousness of
the whole issue.

10. I'd guess the paper flag he had pinned to his shirt looked to be
glued onto a 5" X 8" card.

Someone posted a link to his Sammy cam and it looked so-o-o unbelievably goofy.

3. Those little flag pins are about an nonsensical as the
yellow ribbon magnets that "Support the Troops." Just how does putting a magnet on your car support the troops? And how does wearing a flag lapel pin make you more patriotic than one who does not wear one?

5. Agreed
he earned a lot of respect for that and proved that he's not just a sheep. A leader leads by example and this shows that side of him.

9. I really admire him for this.
I happen to refuse to buy "flag" stamps, put "flags" in my flowers on the 4th of July, and fly a flag on my house.

In my mind the flag has been hijacked by the Republican Party--and I want no part of this nonsense.

I love my country. I don't need a visual aid to prove this point.

I just 'stumbled' into supporting him, after my guy was taken out early in the game (Kooch, I love you still). My initial impressions of Obama were not good - I didn't think he had a message. but neither did Hillary.

But now I think that was a very smart strategy of his.

Fly under the radar, look unthreatening, (maybe he was even faking his not so good 'debating' skills at the start) and meanwhile have a coup de gras Plan. Creep up slowly and when his popularity peaked enough to take some earnest coin in the primaries, it was too late for Hillary. He snuck up on her in cover of her large inevitable shadow. by the time she noticed, it was too late.

Man, that's textbook study worthy, how he has worked his campaign. Brilliant.

But what i admire about him most is his ability to gather people and work from the ground. Not only for volunteering for his run, but in making people feel involved, making them take notice and part of lower tier politics and jump in the political game. that will be his greatest gift to us all.

Along this sleeper line, I like to believe that his policies may turn out to be more progressive than he lets on. As is said, there is not all that much difference, on paper, between him and Hillary. Maybe that's another under the radar strategy - once he gets in, he may just be more progressive than he lets on. That's what I'm hoping.

If this was a horserace Hillary is the sprinter, giving all she has unpaced for a short track, and he is the seasoned long distance runner.

:toast: to his awesome dudeness. :)

13. I donated to his campaign yesterday and was awed by his website.
While typing in the info I get treated to an excerpt of a speech, the amount of content is like Christmas in the morning. Then I was treated to a name and e-mail address to another donater who had posted his at the same time as me to drop a note if I wanted to. Very inclusive. Of course there was an immediate thank you note in my e-mail box within moments. Someone the other day commented on the Obama ground game and they really nailed it. So efficient, informative and fun...
