1. This Newspaper is essentially
a republican tabloid.

This kind of coverage should concern the Dems greatly. Because there is no way they really want Obama for Prez. in November.

4. Oh, it's a right-leaning rag, for sure.
But it's also a "news" paper. And Obama's visit to Cincinnati yesterday was "newsworthy."

I think you're reading waaaaaaaaay too much into this. :-)

6. I live in Cincy
And I refuse to read the Cincy Enquirer. Because, truth be told... we haven't seen any real "news" there in years.

This is the KY version of the same paper. So, I certainly wouldn't read much into it. Not much at all.

Except that it's a rag that's not to be trusted on anything that has to do with democracy.

8. Hey! I live in Cincy too!
When's the last time you saw any politician, Republican or Democrat, get that kind of above-the-fold attention from the Enquirer?

As a downtown worker and DCI Member, I'd disagree pretty strongly with you about "news" breaking in Cincinnati, by the way.

I can understand the discouragement you're feeling though.

7. I live in Cincy
And I have been ignoring (no boycotting) the Cincy Enquirer for years.

This is the No. KY clone of the same paper.

Anything they print should be questioned..... as to how it will help the GOP.

11. So you think the Enquirer...
is actively trying to promote the candidacy of the Democrat who does better against the Republican nominee in head-to-head polling?

McCain as the Republican nominee could cause a large number of conservative voters to stay at home UNLESS Hillary Clinton is on the ballot -- then they'll come out in droves just to defeat her. Obama on the ballot doesn't motivate the conservative wing and it captures more of the Independent vote that would a Hillary campaign. If I were a Republican, an Obama candidacy would be the LAST thing that I'd be promoting.

15. I don't trust that anything you say here
is true. Period. It's what they want us to think.

At this time four years ago... John Kerry beat the shit out of GWB in head to head polling. You know what that got us. Right?

The swiftboating of Mr. Obama has yet to begin.

17. Piss Off, Then
You want to have a discussion but insist that everything I say is a lie?

Kerry beat the shit out of GWB in head-to-head polling? Not even. Read on, and remember this is Ruy Teixeira's website. He's a Democratic strategist and author of "The Emerging Democratic Majority" and this was posted just a few days before the election.

Because the Kerry campaign collapsed under the weight of its own ineptitude, you're never reading the Enquirer again?

9. Do you think other...
newspapers might be using the same picture? If I were to search and find a liberal leaning newspaper would that change your opinion of the picture? Or, is it just the picture that disturbs you?

10. I don't care about the picture
I care about any time the Enquirer attempts to sway public opinion.

They have been very clear in their biases this Primary season.

12. Sway public opinion??!??!??
Edited on Tue Feb-26-08 01:11 PM by VolcanoJen
13,000 Obama supporters stood in line for HOURS on a miserable February day to hear him speak, and when the Enquirer decides that's pretty newsworthy and they should give it full coverage, you think they're making an editorial decision to sway public opinion? Sounds like public opinion has already been swayed, and the Enquirer was simply reporting.

I'm certain if Hillary Clinton has a similar event with a similar crowd in Cincinnati in the next seven days, she'll receive the same treatment from the Enquirer.

But you're way off base here... the Obama Phenomenon is something people in southwestern Ohio, and across the country, haven't seen since the days of JFK and RFK. You don't have to support Obama at all to be able to embrace that something is happening in America, and it's pretty damned exciting to see so many Democrats so energized about a candidate.

14. I guess I just don't trust the media coverage the way you do
But that's OK.

We don't have to see eye to eye on everything.

Ms. Clinton's presence in the tri-state was, by and large, downplayed. Crowd sizes were underestimated. But... I'm used to it. When we protested GWB here in Cincy, that was downplayed as well.

20. Here's a .pdf of the Sunday Cincinnati Enquirer - largest circulation of the week.
http://www.enquirer.com/editions/pdf/OH_CE_240208.pdf

HUGE photo of Hillary above the fold... with headline reading "Cincy State Rally Heats Up Over Mailer Flap."

Are you still sure Clinton's presence in the tri-state was downplayed? Clinton gave the Enquirer a story on Saturday afternoon and they led with it in Sunday's paper.

I just can't follow your logic much further after seeing this.

21. Yes, I saw this....
Did you notice the negative tone? As compared to the positive one over Obama?

I was at that rally. Not a word was mentioned about the fliers Obama had sent out. That came after the crowd dissipated. And one person in the receiving line handed the flier to Clinton.

It was a very positive, issue oriented speech.

22. I think you're being just a tad bit selective.
The post-rally press conference broke national news from the moment it aired live on CNN. It was the talk of the weekend.

Why wouldn't a Cincinnati news editor choose to run with a story that broke right here in Cincinnati? Senator Clinton wanted the flyers to be the news story of the day... and so it was. If she had wanted her positive rally (3,000 attended) to be the headline, all she had to do was skip that press conference afterward and she'd had her glowing report.

None of this is by accident.

27. Oh, we reached the same conclusion...
... but we certainly differ on who is responsible for the press coverage.

Still, after seeing that huge photo of Hillary in Sunday's Enquirer, I honestly find it laughable that you're sticking with your meme.

So be it. Don't forget to vote!

13. Smashing headline! Powerful full color photographs give the sense of excitement.
Why we continue to pretend there is another 'option' left for our party other than Obama is maddening.

Obama is the one.
