"I will be the one".
I am so relieved I won't have to vote for Hill.

I would have dragged myself to the polls to vote for her, but I'm thrilled that I won't have to.

She's run a ghastly campaign. I'll never forget her arrogantly stating in an interview: "I will be the one".

No. You. Won't.

I believe Hillary would have been a competent enough President- if she won- but I think we need more than that. We need someone who can engage the American people. I don't think Clinton could possibly have done that.

Yes, she's faced obstacles; a press that been shameless in their nasty, sexist attacks, but Hillary made huge gaffes of her own, one after the other. Ultimately, it wasn't the MSM that took Hillary down, or even Obama. Hillary's own worst enemy was Hillary, and Bill ran a close second.

What surprises me most about Clinton, is how politically tone deaf she turned out to be. And if she's that tone deaf now in the primary, imagine how poorly that would serve her in the general.

In the end, it was simple:

She was not the one.

1. Seems like every time she opens her mouth
and goes negative it only reinforces all of the negative traits that I associate with her. I'm sorry, but I just don't like the woman. She grates on me.

8. It is really no surprise
at the tone deafness. Hillary has been in the eye of national politics for 16 years without a break. That means no contact with day to day normal life of the average citizen. Instead she has had to constantly defend herself on a public stage. It has got to color your perspective. The combativeness becomes the norm. I can't fault her for that. Put anybody in that position and they'd be lucky to survive as well.

Barack has a more recent attachment to real life. Sure, sure, he and his wife are wealthy but they have lived recently in a world more real to average Americans then Bill and Hillary. I think that gives him a little more empathy. Hence a better campaigner.

9. But wait again! Weren't you one of the ones who accused the Clintons
of always saying what people wanted to hear? Responding to polls. Playing to the crowd? Now she is supposed to be "politically tone deaf?" I get it. The Clintons are whatever you want them to be when you want them to be it.

We now need someone who will unify the country by reaching across the aisle to the opposition to get things done. Yet, when Hillary has done this on many occassions, she has been roundly criticized as being "Bush-lite" "a DINO" "pandering," a traitor to the party. But we are now supposed to be ready annoint a nominee who says this is exactly what he is going to do and to do it much more?

27. I think there is a difference between the way Hillary has reached across the aisle
and what Obama is talking about.

There is a way to be persuasive without antagonistic, and without sacrificing
or compromising what is right. It requires powerful confidence and certainty.

My impression of Hillary for all these years that she's been in the Senate,
reaching across the aisle, is that she has compromised a great deal, I could
only presume for the sake of political ambition. I have been really disappointed
that she seemed to cozy up to so many on the other side, never calling
them on the huge amount of deceit, bullshit, gameplaying, timewasting,
overspending, lawbreaking, warcrime committing, and so on.

Edited on Tue Feb-26-08 03:27 PM by cali
You are a hater of industrial strength who says that under no circumstance will you vote for Obama, that you'll vote for McCain instead. YOU have called Obama endless vile names. YOU start threads stating that you are "completely done with him". YOU are a spewer and hater.

There's nothing hateful in my OP. I don't call names, like YOU do. I don't say I wouldn't have voted for her, like YOU say about Obama.

You have no high ground, dearie.

12. This election will receive much more scrutiny than the 2000 election
We will have not only Obama v Clinton, but the McCain v the Democrat. (Hillary still has a chance, but it's rapidly shrinking -- still, it makes no sense to call any probability 100%.)

Several university institutes of journalism and communication -- e.g., Annenberg at University of Pennsylvania, and the Columbia School of Journalism -- do extensive content analysis of speeches, ads, press comments, and what is called "metacommunication". Academic critical theorists and media ecologists comprise another body of analysts. In a year or two, we should actually know who spun what and by how much, and have quantitative data.

The interesting thing about this primary season is how much more active and vindictive the press and the "surrogates" have been than the actual candidates, on BOTH sides. I don't recall it ever being this intense in a primary, and it probably surpasses the media's promotion of Bush in the 2000 general election as the man America wanted to drink beer with. Both Team Clinton and Team Obama can make long lists of particulars; those lists would even leave out a great deal of side issues.

Each of the campaigns has had their strengths and weaknesses -- and Hillary's has been plagued with both bad luck and dumbass blunders -- but campaigning errors have been commonplace for centuries. The commentary override is what is new.

I am not alleging a press conspiracy; simply that they have acted like a surrogate for the voters, as high-powered kibbitzers, strongly motivated by the desire to increase ad revenue, speaking for us, never realizing that they have been perversely "voting" unofficially. Whether this is helping or hurting your candidate, it has the potential to come back and bite us all in the proverbial ass -- and draw blood.

21. The writing has been on the wall since Wisconsin
He's now ahead in TX and only 5 or 6 pts back in OH. He's going to win by 30 pts here in Vermont. Looks like she'll take RI, but that may well be it. If she wins OH, it'll only be by a very few pts. Bill has said she needs to win both TX and OH to get the nomination.
