Clinton Camp Moving the Goalposts to PA
Just heard it on Hardball, and guess what...the MSM will let them do it. Don't bitch to Obama supporters about the media being unfair to Clinton when they continue to give that campaign pass after pass because they want a dramatic story. But believe you me, if Clinton loses TX and narrowly wins OH...the chorus for her to drop out will become deafening. Nobody wants this to drag on because Hillary Clinton wants to stroke her ego.

And dems will be so sick of her if she sticks it out after losing TX, she'll lose PA by 40 pts.

Edited on Tue Feb-26-08 06:19 PM by apocalypsehow
Mathematically, Hillary Clinton has already been eliminated from the race. She would have to win by massive, double-digit margins in every remaining contest just to pull even with Senator Obama.

It really is that simple, sorry.

How can Hillary "lock up the nomination" after Texas and Ohio?

How exactly will she accomplish that?

She needs to go to PA, WV, Puerto Rico, etc and win those states to have any chance at the nomination.

That is a fact. What you are presenting is an opinion.

The delegate math makes it impossible for her to lock up the nomination after Texas and Ohio.

Edited on Tue Feb-26-08 06:19 PM by fujiyama
She started out with all the advantages you could possibly have - name recognition, spouse of a popular president...

But ultimately she blew this and she knows it. Even if she somehow wins the nomination, she wouldn't have done it by winning more votes or winning more states. She can try to play games with super delegates, but even they won't go with the one with fewer votes.

Pathetic. Winning a few large states just isn't enough to win. And this is a lesson all Dems should have learned from the general elections of the last 8 years. When you have a national campaign, you need to run a national campaign and she didn't.

Now, I'm not saying she should drop out just yet. Waiting until OH and TX is fair, but even then considering she hasn't won a state since Super Tuesday (11 or 12 straight losses), she has to know this is almost done...

166. Obama closes to within 6 points in Pennsylvania (Quinnipiac University Poll)
Puerto Rico's June primary is Hillary's last firewall before she makes her big play in Denver to get her "delegates" from MI and FL seated.

February 27, 2008 - Young Voters Help Obama Narrow Gap In Pennsylvania, Quinnipiac University Poll Finds; McCain Runs Neck And Neck Against Either Democrat

Illinois Sen. Barack Obama, surging among younger voters, has cut Sen. Hillary Clinton's lead among Pennsylvania likely Democratic primary voters to 6 points, 49 - 43 percent, after trailing by 16 points just two weeks ago, according to a Quinnipiac University poll released today.

This compares to a 52 - 36 percent lead for Sen. Clinton February 14.

In a general election matchup, Sen. Clinton has 44 percent to 42 percent of registered voters for Arizona Sen. John McCain, the Republican front-runner. Sen. Obama has 42 percent to Sen. McCain's 40 percent, the independent Quinnipiac (KWIN uh-pe-ack) University poll finds.

Among likely Democratic primary voters, women back Clinton 53 - 39 percent, while men back Obama 50 - 43 percent; white voters go with Clinton 56 - 37 percent while black voters support Obama 69 - 23 percent. Democrats with a college degree favor Obama 53 - 41 percent, while voters without a degree back Clinton 52 - 39 percent.

This biggest movement is among younger voters who went from 52 - 41 percent for Clinton February 14 to 58 - 41 percent for Obama today, a shift of 28 points.

"Sen. Obama is closing in fast on Sen. Clinton in Pennsylvania, but it will probably be the voters in Ohio and Texas who decide what role the Keystone primary will play in the 2008 presidential election. If Sen. Clinton survives next week to fight another day, Pennsylvania could become the last battleground of the long Democratic contest. But an Obama win in Texas and Ohio would make it difficult for Clinton to halt her rival's momentum," said Clay F. Richards, assistant director of the Quinnipiac University Polling Institute.

53. If they do this the higher-ups in the party will be livid.
Expect an absolute windfall of supers in Obama's direction if she decides to move the goalposts to PA.

71. Only if she loses both TX and OH
If she wins OH, there will still be some holdouts.

118. Hope she loses Pennsylvania...
Her losing Pennsylvania would counter the racist comments by the Democratic governor of Pennsylvania which should have been countered by Hillary Clinton as well as by Bill Clinton but were not.

If racist white Democrats in Pennsylvania vote for Obama, well, draw your own conclusion. About the governor, about the Clintons, and most of all about Obama and his ability to win the presidency!

129. She is not going to be able to sustain a ground war against Obama over a month with no money
Look Obama is going to be orgaized in every county They are going to move rsources from all over the country to create a precinct by precinct organization that she can not match or afford. He is going to have Rallies throughout the state everyday for a month.

Then her is going to hit her with ad ad campaign and mailers and robocalls while his surrogates aregue that this money would be better spent on the general election campaign and it is time to unify the party.

The assalut is going to be withering and it will be made to look like an ego thin on her part which will not play well with the remaining super delegates in Congress or the DNC.

She is not going past March 15th if she does not win both Ohio and Texas.

142. Hillary's goalposts for "winning" now mimics Bush's for winning in Iraq...
Every major event that comes, it seems like the goal post gets reduced. By next Tuesday, her surrogates will be trying to float that a narrow win in Ohio constitutes victory, even if Hillary ends up with less delegates overall on Tuesday.

147. Obama is gaining on her in PA and we're 7+ weeks out
A poll of Pennsylvania's Democratic voters, released today, shows Sen. Barack Obama gaining on Sen. Hillary Clinton.

The Quinnipiac University poll found Mrs. Clinton leading Mr. Obama, 49 percent to 43 percent.

Just two weeks ago, Mrs. Clinton led in this survey by 52 percent to 36 percent.

Voters under age 45 have gone from favoring Mrs. Clinton by 11 percentage points to preferring Mr. Obama by 17 points. She leads among women, whites, older voters and those without college degrees; Mr. Obama leads among men, blacks and college graduates. A quarter of each candidate's supporters say they might change their minds about whom to back.

http://www.post-gazette.com/pg/08058/860754-100.stm

So she's dropped 3 percent and Obama's gained 7 percent in 2 weeks. And while we may be an old state we have a lot of young voters in our universities and colleges in Pittsburgh and Philly, State College, and state colleges and small colleges throughout the state.

155. If Hillary loses either TX or OH next Tues, there's no way she can win the nomination
At least not in a fair and democratic manner. All she will be doing is sacrificing the party on the alter of her ambition and vanity, trying to get the nomination through a back door, non-democratic method that will ultimately tear the party apart and give us President McCain. If she continues after a loss next Tuesday, she will have lost any respect that I have for her, and she will be deserving of every single criticism that she receives. This isn't the Clinton party, it is the Democratic party, and she'd better damn well remember that.

If Obama runs for President...he's patriotic and wants change?
If Hillary runs for President...she just wants to stroke her ego?
What an absurd stupid comment. Get a grip and put your much needed thinking cap on and think of something intelligent to post.

He's within the MOE now, and PA doesn't vote until 4/22. I've got at least 6 family members in Philly suburbs all going for OBAMA.
