I originally supported Kucinich all the way. But he was deemed too liberal by voters. The fact is, over the reagan years and especially over the george w. bush years, liberal has become a dirtier and dirtier word to the American Public. Each term of republican rule makes it harder to get a liberal elected president.
Four more years of a republican presidency with snide comments about "the democrat party", "liberal democrats" the evil of "progressivism" will make it harder to get a liberal elected. I believe the only way to do this is to start moving the party back towards the left. I think of it like trying to roll a sliding boulder up a hill. First step? Halt the boulder from sliding further down the hill. Next, move the boulder. It's tough to start, but once you've gotten going, it gets easier. Then you keep rolling. Allowing a republican to win is just stepping aside and letting it slide further downward. You make it even harder for the next guy to try.
I'm not saying that I'm perfectly happy with either of the two candidates running. But I believe if we can get a democratic president, we can get a more liberal president the next time and a more liberal president the next time. This is basically what the republicans did. They started by allowing moderates to take the stage. These seemed palatable to the American people. Then the nominees just got crazier and crazier.
I think to really move the party left, that's the best we can do for a first step. I believe the real change is going to come from the house and senate. This will also be harder with Fox running the presidency.
I'm not saying you have to vote for democrats, but that's just why I will support the nominee.
