Outline a scenario where Clinton gets her groove back tonight
I don't think she can go really negative, like she was implying this weekend. However, she can call him on the flyers and be forceful without getting angry.

She can then turn that on him by saying that's not what he's been talking about on the campaign trail, and it might make his actions and speeches a little hollow.

She can then go and compare her record and what she would do against his, again emphasizing his inexperience by recalling that he has said he would unilaterally invade Pakistan if he had to.

That's her best shot, I think. That said, I think the scales have tipped too far for her to tip them back, and come Wednesday she'll have lost Ohio and Texas.

1. She lobs one verbal nuke after another,
nothing sticks and she closes the debate by doing an impression of Sissy Spacek at the end of the movie Carrie.

That should work.

But she'd have to run as a Republican if she went the "Carrie" route.

4. Yes, but
on the front it has a quote attributed to her that she never made, and she could focus on that as being dishonest and against everything Obama has supposedly stood for, painting him out to be a hypocrite.

She already has the focus of NAFTA on the flyer and what it said, not what her position was/is.

Edited on Tue Feb-26-08 07:59 PM by eleny
She said NAFTA was good for New York and good for the country/nation. So the only difference is like the difference between better and best. Some difference but certainly in the same ballpark. Not neutral by any means and certainly not negative.

I'm so sensitive to NAFTA. I remember writing letters and making phone calls back in the day. My dad and mom worked in factories. Put me through college in the 1960s with that income. Can you even imagine people being able to pay for a private university education sewing in a clothing factory these days? We didn't even take out any loans.

So I'm just not cutting anyone slack about it being passed. And I expect that whoever wins this election, we'll be fighting for it's repeal or whatever they call us getting the heck out. We'll be rolling that rock back up the hill.

Gotta go get supper on - hubby's birthday today!

29. exactly...
If she goes there, she will be forced to say she didn't support it, then the question would be why she didn't say that publicly, or why she didn't stop it from passing. she would have to admit she was powerless to stop it, and that would end the rhetoric about her many years experience and the "co-presidency"....she would have to admit she was merely a "first Lady"....she was a great first Lady, but a first Lady, nonetheless.

but he did a pretty good job of framing her plan as compulsory, and having to pay for it even if you don't want it and/or can't afford it.

That's kibnd of a slippery slope she'd be going down, and she'll have to be very careful if she does.

getting to the magic number, all bets are off. THen it comes down to the super delegates, and I think if they've fought to a stalemate she can woo a lot of them over (and back over) to her side.

Enough to get the nomination? I don't know.

"Barack Obama, a leading Democrat candidate in the US presidential race, provoked anger yesterday by threatening to send troops into Pakistan to hunt down terrorists — even without permission from that country’s Government"

If you send troops into a country, it's at best a raid, at worst an invasion.

Perception is reality, and the perception is that he said he'd invade.

No reason to get pissy over it. Just outlining what Hillary might try and to to show her as more experienced in the foreign policy arena.

34. I know this is somewhat off-topic, but
once again the debate is being aired on a channel that a large number of people can not get. And those people tend to be the more disenfranchised. If you don't have cable or satellite or a fast internet connection, you can't get it.

If I am wrong about that, please let me know, because I really want to see it (or at least hear it).

42. Here are some Ohio Stations that will simulcast:
WKYC will simulcast the debate, along with NBC affiliates WLWT-TV in Cincinnati, WCMH-TV in Columbus, WNWO-TV in Toledo, WDTN-TV in Dayton, WLIO-TV in Lima, WTOV-TV in Steubenville, WFMJ-TV in Youngstown, and WHIZ-TV in Zanesville. The debate will also be streamed live on MSNBC.com, and it will air later the same evening in Spanish on Telemundo.

Obviously, won't help much if you don't live in Ohio. But I hope you can find it.

41. "she can ... be forceful without getting angry"
I'm not sure that's true, at least recently. She consistently confuses "force" and "anger" in her debates and speeches, it seems to me. I think she has to draw very real distinctions between their policies and stop Sen Obama when he smooths over the differences (this is something he does masterfully). She needs to reject his effort to smooth over the differences, to point out why those differences matter, and hope she can do it in a way that convinces voters.

I honestly don't see that tactic working, though, because most people are not policy wonks; they are looking for overarching narratives, which Obama delivers and Sen Clinton does not.
