It's about the future of our republic, period! Nothing less, nothing more...
While I enjoy many of the threads here discussing the differences between Sen. Clinton and Sen. Obama-- both stylistically and substantively-- I find myself both bewildered and appalled at those posts that follow the 'If Candiate X doesn't get the Democratic nomination, I'll not vote/vote Independent/vote for Nader or McCain/whatever' in November. I can't wrap my head around those sentiments-- at ALL.

Folks, if NOTHING else should persuade you to vote for the Democratic nominee in November, future appointments to the Supreme Court SHOULD! At stake (if McCain wins) are a woman's right to choose, number one, and, second, whether or not our rights under the 4th, 5th, 6th and 14th Amendements will be protected or diminished. Forget universal health care... forget the Bush tax cuts... forget the Iraq War-- forget ALL of those and FOCUS on the future of our republic and our most fundamenal rights under the Constitution-- rights GWB and his crew have attempted to systematically dismantle and/or diminish.

If for NO other reason, THAT is why any sane, thinking American should vote for WHOEVER gets the nomination in Denver. It's not rocket science, folks, and your pettifogging, nuanced 'qualms' about either Sen. Obama or Sen. Clinton are luxuries our republic cannot indulge at this juncture in our history.

Thanks for listening. I'll shut up now...

:applause: I am sick of all the infighting. A dog would be better then any GOP. I would be happy with either Obama or Clinton and I think the 2 of them would be the ticket of all tickets. I like Edwards but let's keep our eyes on the reality of the situation.

3. I was an Edwards' supporter, too.
As my avatar indicates, however, I'll vote for a yellow dog before I'll vote for ANYONE ELSE RUNNING-- no ifs, ands or buts.

2. the Dem has to win in order to save the Supreme Court
I'm a big Obama supporter and volunteer, but I will pull the Dem lever in November regardless of the nominee.

6. The cold hard fact of a McCain presidency will ring in people's heads like a gong
Right now people are so swept up and emotional. Most will come around.

8. True, but like a gong...
... once rung, it cannot be un-rung. That's why I wish some people would take a deep breath and THINK about what they're saying about our party's nominee-- whoever it may be-- BEFORE they say it. The worst candidate we had running this year was a ten-fold better choice for POTUS than the best the 'pubs had running.

9. Perhaps.
I prefer to believe both Sen. Clinton and Sen. Obama when they each say that they will, for example, restore our ancient right of habeus corpus. I also note that Sen. McCain has NOT said that he will do so.

Who do you believe?

17. I doubt it, but if so then I'd rather have someone who shares more of my views wielding that power.

13. I've seen an equal number saying they won't vote for Sen. Obama.
I don't think either candidate's supporters can claim 'victimhood' on that score.

12. If McCain runs on the (D) ticket...
... you would vote for him.

I wouldn't.

That is the difference, boiled to its raw essence.

14. Yes, and IF frogs had wings...
... they wouldn't bump their butts every time they moved, either. I deal in realities, no 'what ifs', since it's far more productive to do so. McCain never WAS a Democrat, IS NOT a Democrat and never WILL BE a Democrat.

16. That's not the "Essense" this year the choice is to be complicit in murder or stand against it.
Edited on Wed Feb-27-08 07:48 AM by Political Heretic
Both (D)'s as you say are for ending the war. The alternative candidate who will be elected if the (D) isn't is for perpetuating that illegal war and letting thousands more of our children have their heads blow apart and spattered on walls.

There is line in the sand, and only one right place to stand this year.

So this year, you can take your rhetorical, self-aggrandizing idealogical purity bullshit and shove it up your ass.

This is where my anger explodes. People who are so goddamn self-absorbed that their perfectly OK with not doing everything in their power to ensure that a president who will stop the senseless slaughter of our children is put into office.

I'm sorry but whether or not that person, whoever it is, is too corporate, or doesn't quite have the "right" position on gun rights, or doesn't quite "nail" heath care, etc. really doesn't fucking matter right now as much as:

- SAVING THE LIVES OF AMERICAN CHILDREN GETTING SLAUGHTERED IN AN ILLEGAL OCCUPATION
- PROTECTING WHAT LITTLE WE HAVE LEFT OF A JUSTICE SYSTEM BY PROTECTING THE SUPREME COURT
- UNDOING THE EXECUTIVE ORDER / SIGNING STATEMENT POWER GRAB OF THIS ADMINISTRATION

That's it. I care about other issues too, and I know that there are candidates who, ideologically, are better on those issues. Hell, in terms of pure ideology, I agree with NADER on damn near everything. But this isn't fucking ABSTRACT. It's not theoretical.

This year, right here, right now, a vote for a democratic literally S*A*V*E*S**L*I*V*E*S!

19. I agree with this whole heartedly:
People who are so goddamn self-absorbed that their perfectly OK with not doing everything in their power to ensure that a president who will stop the senseless slaughter of our children is put into office.

But if my choice comes down to a Hawkish(D) and a Hawkish(R), I have no illusions about what will happen during their tenure.

...and one of our candidates seems hell bent on showing everybody that they're a "fighter".

15. How about not being complicit in the continuing MURDER of american men and women?
You vote for either democratic candidate you take an active step towards stopping those murders.

You sit at home or vote for McCain and you are complicit. It's really that simple.

If you're comfortable with that then you ought to send your son or daughter over there and put them on the front line, or go yourself.

18. "Meet the new boss-- same as the old boss".
That's exactly what we're facing, if our nominee doesn't win in November. You are 100% correct.
