For Hillary, "Sorry" Seems to Be the Hardest Word
Well, in tonight's debate we saw Hillary Clinton come the closest yet to apologizing for her vote authorizing Bush to go to war in Iraq.

"I regret it."

"I would like to take it back."

But still not an apology for a vote that resulted in nearly 4,000 American deaths in Iraq and more than 650,000 Iraqi civilian deaths. Maybe she will finally say it March 3rd?

1. I don't need an apology. I regret suffices.

12. Bush did not go to war all on his own.
Failing a declaration of War by Congress, he needed some document to hang his policy on. The IWR was it. She voted for it, along with a majority of the Senate. Yes, they all need to apologize, including Hillary. If we were an honorable society, not only would they all resign and slink off, never to be heard from again, but many should go to the capital steps and commit seppuku.

Only the greatest foreign policy disaster in our nations history.

A possible cause to the downfall of our nation (should it fall).

13. She *seems* to recognize it was a mistake
For anyone who can't comprehend why an apology was so important to some of us, here it is:

The IWR was bar none the worst mistake she has made in her 8 years in office. If she cannot recognize it as a mistake, she is not fit to be President.

If she sincerely meant that she regrets it and would take it back, that raises my opinion of her fitness.

14. That's cool. "I regret" is good enough, but "I reject" is not.
Obama must not just reject Farrakhan but denounce him, while Hillary can just "regret" war vote but not apologize.

Ok, I get it.

3. No offense to her but she can learn from Obama tonight
When he conceded to her point of denouncing AND rejecting Farrakhan with a smile, laid back and easy attitude it played very well for him. No big deal, no sweat and agreeable to it. The man has some class, no doubt about it.

5. Too little, too late - like we have to even drag that out of her....
Edited on Tue Feb-26-08 11:33 PM by RiverStone
All the other candidates that played a part in the original IWR vote said they fucked up - it's not rocket science and Hillary has had a zillion chances to answer it. An 11th hour conversion holds little weight.

p.s. I don't hate Hillary - in fact I like her.

9. How did apologizing work out for Edwards?
Edited on Tue Feb-26-08 11:49 PM by jackson_dem
The same folks who demand she apologize still criticized Edwards over the AUMF despite his apology.

Hill at least admits she has been wrong on some issues. Has Obama ever admitted he was wrong on a past vote or position?
