I'd have called out Tim Russert on his loaded question bullshit vs Hillary. That's what is needed to be done. Barack should have interrupted Russert in his questioning of Hillary, or interrupted Hillary in her answer to Russert and said

I have to interrupt here. Tim, you've done nothing but ask loaded questions towards my opponent, and throw me softball questions. It isn't fair, and it isn't right. Your questions aren't worthy of a balanced debate. Furthermore, your constant interruptions degrade this entire debate process, and frankly, you aren't qualified to moderate this debate. Your approach to debates are simple 'gotcha' tactics, and you have no business moderating this debate. Hillary, I'm asking you to not answer that, it's not a fair question.

I would switch to being a Hillary voter instantly if she'd said that, by the way.

That is the kind of straight-talk express I'm looking for.

1. The problem is that "most" see the debate as stacked against Hillary!
I know it's hard to believe if you actually watched the thing, but....there's a huge faction here on DU who think Hillary got a raw deal! Go figure. You'd think her "pillow" comment would have changed things...but unfortunately--she had to go first (sigh!) and that's why there are all these problems! She shouldn't have to go first all the time, god dang it!

Anyway, bottom line for me...Barack handled everything thrown at him with grace. He was PRESIDENTIAL! Hillary? She was just a big complainer!

That's my two cents!

3. See
I'm an Obama supporter, and I saw it biased against her. That's why I posted what I posted. He would have been Presidential + human if he'd stopped the bias in its tracks.

That's all I'm saying.

5. Truly?
You really thought the debate was stacked against her? Wow!

Can you give examples?

I thought it seemed very fair.

2. She's the one that made the wild claims
and ranted about meeting him in Ohio. If she didn't do these crazy and underhanded things, the media wouldn't give her "bad press".

4. My post isn't about 'bad press'
It's about bias with Russert

9. I personally thought Russert was equally assholish to both
(See this thread for a particularly bad form attack on Obama)

But yes, he did seem to have a little extra for Hillary.

On the other hand, if Obama had stepped in, there would be people here accusing him of being patronizing or something like that. Hillary's a strong person, if she's strong enough to be president she's strong enough to stand up to the likes of Russert (and I think she did it pretty well too).

10. He wouldn't have anything to be "biased" about
Edited on Wed Feb-27-08 03:09 AM by sandnsea
if she wasn't constantly sticking her foot in it. Obama doesn't. So they're supposed to make stuff up so they can bash them "equally". That's how Republicans end up getting away with so much, they insist every time 20 Republicans are caught with their hand in the cookie jar, the media has to find one Democrat for "balance".

7. Did you just crawl out from under a rock?
The media has been giving her "bad press" for the past 10 years.

6. Oh I disagree
If Hillary was a man he could have done that. But if he'd stuck up for her it would have been read as she needs a man to defend her rather than defending herself. The standard for her is MUCH higher.

12. I thought the moderators did a shitty job as well.
They were fighting for a gotcha moment.
I felt bad for her.
She should lay off the jokes though imho they do her no favors

13. Oh yeah, but that whole cadre: Blitzer, Russert, Williams flush to the front...
and I do mean 'flush', are some of the very most abusive. Matthews ia another, Olberman has turned, Ed Schultz I don't think now ever really was; but they're all just massaging their demographic-for-payroll quotient. And this is what America is left with when the 4th estate feels *they* are more important than the constitution.

14. I had to turn it off.
I completely agree with you. I thought the questions being asked of her were designed to make her fail and look foolish. It was very disappointing.
