Edited on Wed Feb-27-08 08:37 AM by Angry Mollusk
Face it- Clinton lost the debate-and the election. Obama did a great job last night, he stated his positions clearly, and didn't give in to name calling. His excellent performance during the debate (contrasted with Clinton's smarmy and ho-hum performance) made it clear to me that Clinton's days are numbered. Obama WILL be our next president.
Clinton couldn't even pronounce the Russian leader's name. Is she taking pronunciation lessons from GW Bush?

btw- I had to re watch the debate, as the first time the online stream kept freezing up-anyone else have that problem? I was able to re watch it a couple times after the fact without any technical glitches.

1. You can do that when you campaign as an empty suit
He hasn't impressed me once in the past year. I'll write in General Clark when I vote next month.

I hope whoever wins (preferably Obama) picks Wes Clark as their running mate.

11. I could live with that, too.
I think Obama is much more than an empty suit and I'm impressed with his calm and clear approach. If he wins the nomination, and can figure out a way for McCain to lose that famous temper of his, it will be quite a nice contrast.
Given the mess the country is in and will be in the future, we may need some inspiring words while he's working on the problem, rather than Hillary's style of, "I'm working on it; I'll get back to you." (not an actual quote, just making a point) Hoover wasn't hurt just by his lousy policies but also by his tone-deaf style, and FDR didn't succeed only with his (borrowed)innovative policies but with his inspirational words for people who had every reason to despair. Note that I'm not comparing Hillary to Herbert Hoover; only that she devalues inspirational speaking just when we are entering a period when we may need some coming from the government, rather than from some wild-eyed preachers.

Hey, Darth-kitten, neat picture. Can I ask the background? I own a Jean-Francois de Troy (one of the sons of the original de Troy) from pre-revolutionary period.

4. I watched it with the sound off an I agree-she had a mix of rage and almost crying
That is just my opinion.

I had the caption on so I was reading it (the part back and forth about NAFTA and both of their mixed history on it) but I couldn't tell if she was about to cry (no joke intended there) or she was just reading to rip someone head off because she can't believe she finds herself in this position.

14. no one, but no one, panders to AIPAC and Israel more than Hilly dear
And actually, apartheid is an appropriate word to apply to the West Bank, but there is not a system of apartheid in Israel proper.

9. The Obama Messiah Watch

http://www.slate.com:80/id/2158578/

The Obama Messiah Watch Introducing a periodic feature considering evidence that Obama is the son of God. By Timothy Noah

Is Barack Obama—junior U.S. senator from Illinois, best-selling author, Harvard Law Review editor, Men's Vogue cover model, and "exploratory" presidential candidate—the second coming of our Savior and our Redeemer, Prince of Peace and King of Kings, Jesus Christ? His press coverage suggests we can't dismiss this possibility out of hand. I therefore inaugurate the Obama Messiah Watch, which will periodically highlight gratuitously adoring biographical details that appear in newspaper, television, and magazine profiles of this otherworldly presence in our midst.

Today's item, from a Los Angeles Times profile by Larry Gordon about Obama's two years at Occidental College (before he transferred to Columbia):

In Boesche's European politics class, Sulzer said he was impressed at how few notes Obama took. "Where I had five pages, Barry had probably a paragraph of the pithiest, tightest prose you'd ever see. … It was very short, very sweet. Obviously somebody almost Clintonesque in being able to sum a whole lot of concepts and place them into a succinct written style."

Readers are invited to submit similar details—Obama walking on water, Obama sating the hunger of 5,000 with five loaves and two fishes—from other Obama profiles. And also, of course, to repent, just in case the hour approacheth nigh.

16. Clinton was Magnificent
She puts Obama to shame and she won the debate hands down. She is ahead of Obama on every issue, she communicates beautifully, and you are wrong.

Hillary for President!!

17. Obama scores higher, "Won," "Quick on his feet," "Well prepared and focused," "Excellent command"
The reviews are in: Obama scores higher, "Won," "Quick on his feet," "Well prepared and focused," "Excellent command"

TIME (Joe Klein): He won. He not only won by not losing, but he also won on points--and on demeanor, and on quickness… LINK

Time (Jay Carney): Hillary Clinton missed some opportunities tonight. Her complaint at the beginning about the format of the debate seemed to fall flat. LINK

TIME (Mark Halperin) …Obama: B+, Clinton: B- “Avoided lofty rhetoric and focused on presenting himself as cool, deliberative, and substantive. Well prepared and focused.” LINK (On Clinton: “Her conviction that the media is biased against her seemed to throw her off throughout, and she was too distracted by her frustration with Obama and the press to truly shine.”)

NBC (Mark Murray): … Obama has an excellent command of his plan and his defense. LINK

MSNBC (David Gregory): … What you see time and time again with Barack Obama is a coolness about him. He absorbs a particular attack or a question or a pointed statement and tries to maybe acknowledge the point and then turn it around.

Washington Post (Chris Cillizza) …Obama successfully parried most of Clinton's offense and even turned some of her aggressiveness against her. LINK

Politico (Ben Smith) “Back to the war”: … it's always been Obama's trump card, and he returns to it tonight LINK

AMERICAblog (Joe Sudbay): … Obama was steady on a broad range of issues … In my view, the win goes to Obama. A clean win. LINK

The New Republic (Michael Crowley): …Obama is quick on his feet and good humored. He also conveys a certain bemused remove from the bizarre conventions of traditional insider politics LINK

ABC (Rick Klein): …Notice that Obama is the first to try to turn the argument to Sen. McCain -- their battle has already begun, if tentatively, and Obama welcomes it. LINK

Who do you think won the debate?

Hillary Clinton 10% 1363 votes
Barack Obama 89% 11588 votes

Obama should wait his turn, young voters should wait their turn to try to figure out which candidate to vote for, etc. It's Hillary's turn, dammit! Why don't more people realize that! Who is this Obama guy, to think it's his turn!
