The RIGHT is attacking OBAMA now, in HOPES that TU-TU Dems will give them what they want instead!
Edited on Wed Feb-27-08 10:04 PM by FrenchieCat
Have you noticed since Wisconsin, that the right is attacking Obama quite hard.....at a time before the Dem Primaries are over?

They are throwing the kitchen sink at him; highlighting his middle name, showing him dressed in foreign garb, McCain attacking on another front with NS, the Farrakhan card is also being thrown in for good measure, his patriotism is being questioned as well as Michelle's......and why is this going on now?

I though that the Hillary supporter's meme was that OBAMA was the weakest Dem? After all, that is what the Hillary faction has said over and over again.

So why would the RightWing attack Barack now, and not wait till after the nomination process?

I believe it is because Obama is the strongest Dem, and the Repugs are hoping that they can scare enough Democrats from voting for him in Ohio and Texas. They want Hillary, and so they are spending their wad now, and crossing their fingers in hoping that enough Dems won't want to have to deal with all of that, and will have 2nd thoughts.

My question--
Do you think this tactic will work, or are Dems smarter than this?

34. They are going after Obama now because he is ahead. If Hillary pulls
ahead, they'll go right back to doing what they've been doing for 16 years. Whoever emerges as the winner, they will attack. Period. And they have been so vicious to Hillary Clinton that, if she seems defensive against the media (like her comment about being asked the first question), who the hell can blame her. They have been no friend to the Clintons. If Obama does win, god only knows how they will turn Michelle Obama into their newest most hated woman. That is why I hope hope hope that the Clintons and Obamas can combine forces. I don't care how unlikely it seems now, I believe Hillary and Barack when they say that they truly respect one another and I think they could work so well together. I have decided to pull for Obama in this primary, but if Hillary wins the nomination, I will whole heartedly support her and, in turn, hope that Obama can be HER vice prez. I love them both.

4. Put nothing past the R activists. They WANT to face Hillary.
The R activists are entirely on record as preferring to run against Hillary as she would tremendously energize their base, much moreso than Obama. Of course they want her to win the primary, and some will do anything they can to help make that happen. Notice how most of the R talking heads are writing anti-Obama articles, feeding into the "all talk and no substance" crap, etc. etc.

20. Seriously?
Obama has thus far been treated with kid gloves by the media, so much so that it will be interesting to see how they can pull the Dr. Jekyl and Mr. Hyde switcheroo and begin bashing him if he is our candidate. There have been occasional criticisms in the mainstream press, but for the most part his coverage has been incredibly positive.

is "the strongest dem" per se; they perceive him as 'a' dem, they're simple minded, that's all they require upon which to operate. They're just getting an early start. As with Clinton, they'll be playing that game throughout any Obama presidency is my guess. Their shit never stops, rust never sleeps. If Dems know nothing else by now they know...republicans are simply not able to change their sordid game

29. I suppose if & when he gets the nomination he'll be the *only* dem standing there
One undiluted component of their strange little game, is that they not only snark for the past and the present...they snark for the future.

As mentioned up-thread "A big machine like that has to get warmed up", they're keying on the likely nominee. Obama being a "strong" Dem man for me invites a subjective read.

I'll bet you dollars to donuts they have every intent to personalize these attacks; they already have. They intend to position Barack as a stationary object-target, a recipient; one I don't think he'll agree to, but that's how they play those cards hoping you'll run up & down their streets answering their idiot questions over your shoulder. I think he'll do just fine. But it ain't gonna be pretty :(

"So why would the RightWing attack Barack now, and not wait till after the nomination process?" Two things come to mind...

1. Future Snark as mentioned above, and...

2. Why does a dog lick his balls? Yep, because he can.

And there are a lot of these sites!

McCain -- Keating 5! http://www.realchange.org/mccain.htm
Plenty of these as well

McCain's infidelity on his 1st wife who was handicapped by a car accident, his divorce and remarriage to a 25 year old 1 month later - http://www.washingtonmonthly.com/features/2006/0607.benen.html

McCain's wife stealing drugs from her own non profit for her addiction - http://www.salon.com/news/feature/1999/10/18/drugs/

McCain's abrahmoff $100,000 "problem" - http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_topic&forum=132&topic_id=4555514

McCain's new lobbyist "issues" - http://www.nytimes.com/2008/02/21/us/politics/21mccain.html?_r=2&ex=1361250000&en=33711052dbdd623d&ei=5088&partner=rssnyt&emc=rss&oref=slogin&oref=slogin

These are just a few....there are other "problems" McCain has.

So, don't think that there is no amo, cause there is. Plenty!

31. pft, oh please you were the one that started out @ Obama and meme HRC, here...
from another of mine somewhere round here today:

"He's been all over the tube already rolling his own prideful, ill-advised words round & about his mouth as his supporters behind the old coot, snigger & giggle about the most deathly, dire, inconclusive, disastrous waste of a quagmire in the history of American foreign policy.

I almost began to feel sorry for him; seeing him in the not-so-distant future choking on his own words lodged sideways in his throat. But then I thought, "Naw."

I saw a Gallop Poll that showed that the Republican base will not unite against Hillary.

Republicans were asked this very question--i.e., would you get out the vote against Hillary--and something like 17% said yes.

Anti-Hillary people cling to this crusty old belief. But it's simply not true.

60. Another thing they want: prolong our primary.
Primary season is vicious, nasty and costly, and if Hillary can perform well enough in Texas and Ohio to stay in for a few more weeks, that's more time for the Democrats to tear themselves apart, while the GOP watches, eats popcorn and positions McCain to win in November.

We've got to end this on Mar. 4th. Obama needs to deliver the coup-de-grace, then Hillary needs to bow out for the good of the party. I don't care if it hurts the pwecious widdle feewings of the Hillary shills here. We can't afford another GOP assclown in the White House.

62. Yep.....
and the sad part is that the Dems will do the bidding of the GOP, like they so often do.

As usual, they don't know a gift when they are starring at it.

Like Hillary supporters truly believe that Hillary will be able to get out the same kind of vote. It will never happen. Then, they'll be scratching their ass thrying to figure out what happened.
What Hillary doesn't understand is that their are many who will start not to give a shit anymore....just like they didn't in 2004.....and it will be those "true" Dems and all of their "Hillary is the only one" who will be crying their eyes out as the SC gets rid of our right to choose.
