Howard Dean: Republican field “looks like the 1950s and talks like the 1850s.”
Edited on Thu Feb-28-08 04:02 PM by WesDem
The Chairman of the Democratic National Committee and former Governor of Vermont contrasted the two parties’ presidential candidates, saying that with a woman and an African-American as the two front-runners, the Democratic field “looks like America,” while the all-white male Republican field “looks like the 1950s and talks like the 1850s.”

-snip

When asked about how the Democrats succeeded in the 2006 midterm elections, Dean credited the DNC’s longterm efforts to build a Democratic majority throughout the country, in particular his “fifty state strategy,” a move to invest resources locally, nationwide, rather than just in Democratic strongholds, in order to build party infrastructure.

“We spent a lot of money,” Dean said, acknowledging that many Democratic Party insiders criticized it, but concluded that the Democrats won’t win if they don’t “show up on the court.”

-snip

In a nod to the official topic of his talk, Dean emphasized the Democrats’ work on landmark legislation like the Voting Rights Act, and expressed his belief that the racial divide present in earlier generations has diminished in recent years.

“The younger generation sees itself as a multicultural generation,” Dean said. “People under 35 think of themselves differently, and feel integrated .”

1. go Howard and the 50-state strategy

And in northern NY a traditionally GOP state senate seat just went Dem. Spitzer has goofed up some things since he took office, but his efforts to turn the NY senate are working - an every-county strategy.

4. I love Howard Dean!
Four years later I am still crushed about the way things ended for his campaign. But I am glad he got to be DNC chair...Dean taking over the DNC was more of a coup for us grassroots activists than many of us realize.

5. I love Dean also
Man he is sharp, smart, direct, and full of strategy. I want him running the whole show. He knows what works. I think he may be better than Rove because he can think strategically but stay above the fray of hate politics.

8. Howard is alpha-male
cunning; braniac; leader; empathic; intellectual; transparent--everything a decent man strives to be. HE is the reason Obama is where he is now, and why the Democratic Party is on the verge a people powered, revolutionary makeover. HD is the cross, garlic, and stake to the DLC. May he vanquish it soon. If my speculation is correct, HD will go down in the history books.

Especially how he would say "1850s". Don't know why.

:yourock:

This man is a political genius. The 50 state strategy is gold.

Dean must have a very important position in the Obama administration.

The New Democratic party that Obama is building stands on the shoulders of Howard Dean.:applause:
