It's not just DU
Granted it doesn't matter as much because most of the people here can't vote but the comments I'm hearing from people in Toronto, Montreal and Vancouver about Obama and Clinton are much the same as DU. The vast majority of them are appalled by the Clinton campaign and have nothing nice to say about Hillary

Canada, by the way, if it were ever to vote in US elections would be 90-95% democrat (with significant support for Nader)

2. It's different here
It's a 5 party system, people tend to vote based on what they really believe deep down - not the realistic chance of victory.

17. Nader is a liberal
I know it's tough to comprehend, but he is as liberal as Kucinich, if not more. And the rest of the civilized world, including Canada, is also liberal.

21. No he's not. I used to believe he was a liberal. He claimed to hate corporations....
but got rich investing in them. Then he took and continues to take action against those who suffer the most in this country. That's not a liberal. That's an asshole.

3. I listened to an NPR interview today with the woman who was PM of Canada
back in '93 (Canada had a female PM? I knew we Yanks tend to be pretty ignorant about the goings on up there, but how'd I fail to notice THAT?!?)

Anyways, I was listening and noticing the contrast between this woman and Senator Clinton. I thought that she really had something to say and meant what she said. It was different from the impression Hillary always gives me of saying something because it's been tested and approved.

4. CTV has probably joined the ranks of the US MSM in undermining and destroying HRC.
I'm with MANY of my friends to the NORTH; "(with significant support for Nader)".

14. an Irish friend of mine says that Europe favors Clinton
but this was nearly two months ago, so at this point that could be changing. Just like here, actually.

It's everywhere you go. In fact when they start arguing as they do here, I point them to this site just to show them it's not only on my site lol.

7. Although the Nafta Thing
has ruffled some feathers - it is already perceived up here as leaning heavily in favour of the US, if Obama were to say 're-negotiate or we're out' it might very well mean the end of NAFTA for Canada.

Where's the upside for us?

We live in a country where the Clinton Democrats ARE the right wing.

13. I think we'd take
Any state where Ice is a naturally occurring event (not something you make in the fridge) + the west coast. The rest are on their own.

19. Appreciate the invite but
There's no upside. We already have universal health care and gay marriage, we are very welcoming to immigrants, pot is definitely illegal here, but the courts threw the possession laws out as unconstitutional and no new one has been written so...it's kindof defacto legal, I mean if you ask a policeman it's illegal but your chances of getting arrested for possession are almost none.

We have 5 political parties (well 5 big ones, probably 100 small ones that never win anything)

- The Conservatives: Basically run the gamut between Clinton and Leiberman
- The Liberals: Think JFK, FDR, Obama
- The NDP: Think Kucinich
- The Greens: Fairly new, still not winning but growing - think Gore
- The Bloc Quebecois: Imagine if Texas spoke a different language, started their own party that only ran candidates in Texas and then wanted provisions for Texas in every bill that passed (and occasionally threatened to secede) - annoying but very left wing generally.

That's the political spectrum here. I don't see any advantage to Canada in Canada becoming part of the US - that and it will really annoy the thousands of people (myself included) who left the US and came here on purpose, and the military deserters who we're not granting asylum to, but aren't deporting either.

by the way, if it were ever to vote in US elections would be 90-95% democrat (with significant support for Nader)"

....I say, we move the Canadian/US border to the Arctic Circle and bring all that good Canadian wisdom to US elections....

....any country Red Green and Possum Lodge calls home, is ok in my book....we'll send Harold to the new Great White North....
