Obama's Farrakhan Dilemma -- Hutchinson Political Report

Here's what a spokesperson for Democratic Presidential contender Barack Obama said when he got wind of former Nation of Islam leader Louis Farrakhan’s virtual endorsement of Obama’s White House bid, “Senator Obama has been clear in his objections to Minister Farrakhan's past pronouncements and has not solicited the minister's support." Farrakhan made the glowing tout of Obama at the NOI’s annual Savior's Day confab in Chicago.

Obama’s denunciation of Farrakhan was blunt and pointed. But he did not reject Farrakhan’s implied endorsement. Even after Hillary Clinton publicly demanded that he forcefully reject Farrakhan’s endorsement, Obama waffled. He weakly said after more Clinton cajoling that he rejected the endorsement.

He still did not mention Farrakhan by name. A candidate shouldn't need to be prodded by his opponent to emphatically reject the endorsement of a controversial, and in the case of Farrakhan, much vilified figure. Obama, of course, does not endorse Farrakhan's views, politics, or his organization, and he has made that clear on more than one occasion.

But, if Obama doesn’t blast Farrakhan as an anti-white hate monger that could raise questioning eyebrows with many white voters. He can’t afford that. He’s far exceeded the predictions of many who questioned whether whites would vote for an African-American for president.

1. Sorry, this is not a big deal
On the other hand, his church will be the constant focus of negative attention by the repubs and the MSM if he gets the nomination, and that is something that could be very troublesome.

2. if Obama doesn’t blast Farrakhan as an anti-white hate monger
Then it follows that Clinton and McCrazy need to blast Pat Robertson, Dobson, Oral Roberts, Jimmy Swaggart, and other racist preachers, as anti-black hate mongers.

That would be entertainment watching them all tear each other to shreds.

5. Some are ignorant, but I've never known them to be anti-black...
Oral Roberts had integrated services back in the 1950's. Most big-name preachers enjoy a crossover following in the black community, such as Joel Osteen and Joyce Meyers. Now, if they said anything like calling Judaism a "gutter religion," then of course they deserve to be blasted.

6. Jesus was a Jew....
Something, the theologians of Christianity don't like preaching about; was the fact that Jesus never called himself a Christian, but rather a Jew.

It was the "Romans" that named the followers of Jesus, Christians.

4. Great post, and the tv pundits said she was being "petty"
This issue plus his own church is cannon fodder for McCain and the repukes...we'll lose the WH and then all you "O" worshippers will be to blame! You were warned but didn't want to listen!
