Obama Hearts Rethugs

***Obama Says Hillary Thinks GOP Is Bad, He Does Not
By Big Tent Democrat, Section Elections 2008
Posted on Fri Feb 29, 2008 at 08:40:57 AM EST

By Big Tent Democrat

Via Chris Bowers, party building Obama style:

Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama said Thursday he would be more willing than Hillary Rodham Clinton to work with Republicans.

"Her natural inclination is to draw a picture of Republicans as people who need to be crushed and defeated," Obama said during a telephone interview from Texas with the Cincinnati Enquirer editorial board. "It's not entirely her fault. She's been the target of some unfair attacks in the past."

"I'm not a person who believes any one party has a monopoly on wisdom," Obama said.

Indeed. Who needs a Democratic Congress? Not Obama apparently.***

Even if Obama does get Rethugs to actually vote for him in the general election, what compelling reason would they have to vote Democratic down-ticket?

1. Get over it. I heart rethugs, too, if they vote Dem. They have ZERO
options this year, the thinking ones anyway. If they're anti-war, they'll vote Dem. You got a problem with that?

10. He chose that name to be ironic or something
He's actually very opposed to the idea of having a big tent party. He wants it to only be for liberals.

12. Not a thought that the Obama crowd will admit to being true - other than the war it
may be quandary for folks to work out if MCCain - who has stopped unneeded Defense spending and stopped specific contracts - is more progressive than Obama who has not done either.

14. Barack Obama's open-mindness is one of his attractive qualities.
Obama will get a Democratic Congress. I, for one, am tired of the bickering along party lines...nothing gets done. Whoever is elected, let's hope that he/she will enter the office of the presidency with good nature toward all regardless of party affiliation.

17. The problem is NOT that he might get some repuke votes. The problem is that
the influx of right-wingers into positions of influence in the party and his (probable) administration and his willingness to "work with" (read - capitulate to) the enemy is bound to water down (at the least) or destroy (more probable) any liberal actions he might have thought about taking.

Do those who celebrate his "reaching out" actually think that the conservatives he is pandering to will simply vote for him and then quietly go away? Don't you think that they will demand a seat at his table and push their conservative agenda?

And this does not even take into account the fact that the repukes DO NOT compromise. For the past year, compromise has mean that the Dems back down and the repukes get almost, if not all, of what they want.

His going into office thinking he can work with them just shows that he is not the person we need to fight to turn America around.

Disclaimer - this is in no way meant to imply that Sen. Clinton is much better.

18. No disrespect to Republicans---but we are stupid if we ignore
the possible results.

The Republicans naturally and rightfully will expect something for
their vote. Their basic worldview is different from Democrats.

For those who have hated Hilary for DLC connection--Icannot believe
they are accepting GOP Philosophy just so it is not called DLC.

We are going to have Conservative Government maybe a little
kinder but nonetheless Conservative Democratic Government.

As long as we do not live in some bubblehead dream that this
is progressive change.

I do question how many Republicans will really vote Democrat in
the GE. A large number means they hold influence in out party.

No change. Look at the Congress right now. How many Senators
and Representative vote with GOP. We are assuring no change.

You surely cannot call this a Progressive Mandate. Not flame baitng
just asking for reality.

21. Nothing wrong with working with Republicans IF.......
in the process we aren't sacrificing core Democratic values. What disturbs me about Obama is that I have seen instances in his past when he has done just that. In the Illinois Senate he wrote a bill dealing with nuclear power plant leaks (which were a potential big problem there). The bill he wrote was a good one, with plenty of protections. The Republicans strongly opposed his bill, so what did Obama do? He rewrote the bill in a way that took away all governmental oversight and made it VOLUNTARY (the George Bush school of regulation). It was a complete 180 from his original proposal.

I fear he cares more about uniting than he does about upholding the Democratic viewpoint on issues important to us.
