Hey Texas Democrats, I'm glad to see you in the mix!
Though I lived half my life in New England, I was actually born in Texas and moved North as a kid.

My oldest brother still lives there, as do my nephews and assorted cousins and second cousins. We are from the hill country, Austin and San Antonio, and West Texas - those tracts of land without the oil...Old time Texas Democrats. My dad was a big LBJ fan, from an Episcopalian family with 3 maybe 4 generations in Texas. My mom, an ardent Kennedy admirer, was first generation, blue collar, Irish Catholic. One of the ethnic blocs that came to signify the Democratic party in Massachusetts.

Made for some real interesting table talk growing up. Except for Sundays that is...

We maintained a tradition started by my Grandparents. A political blackout at Sunday dinner. Seems the pro/con FDR debates in Texas were so fierce my Grandmother called a halt to it one Sunday. Cast too big a pall over good fried chicken, German string beans and corn bread. They took their politics serious, but there *was* a limit. ;)

California is home to me now and I really appreciated having a primary that mattered.

So too, for personal as well as political reasons, I'm really glad to see Texas in the mix this primary season. Have a great turnout March 4, friends and family, and we'll see you in Denver!

:kick:

1. How lucky for Texans. We Floridians could have been voting March 4th, but our D's joined the R's to
make our January 29th primary a meaningless and delegateless "beauty contest." Don't blame the DNC. The blame goes to our feckless legislators.
