Let me make it clear - Democratic Underground is NOT Obama Underground.
We support _ALL_ Democratic nominees/candidates/senators/congresscritters/important people.

DU is not focused on just Obama, people. We also have local politicans who are also looknig to run for national office and beyond.

I know most of you guys (I just don't mean the Hillary supporters) are starting to sound like sour grapes and calling DU Obama Underground. For that, I'll tell you a little story...

Back in '04, when the Clark, Kerry and Dean wars got VERY nasty, Skinner and the mods has decided to ban most of the vocal Deaniacs (myself included) and I happen to be a co-founder along with the few DU'ers that I will respectfully not name a clone of DU - called Dean Underground. It was solely an echo chamber for Howard Dean supporters, and we eventually grew out of it, and although most of us are still Deaniacs, we have decided to establish a sounding boards for everyone, conservative, moderate, and even liberals to say their piece and see what other people think - sounds familiar - it was similar to Democratic Underground. Unfortunately, Skinner will not allow me to name the website, but it still exists, even after 4 years. If you are curious as to what it is, please PM me, and I will pass the information.

Believe me, folks, Hillaryis44.org and other Hillary echo chambers will also evolve to something else, same with the other candidate websites. Some will be defunct, some will just be a blogsite, but remember, Democratic Underground has always remained the same - it is not Obama Underground, Hillary Underground, Kucinich Underground, Republican Underground, or any other Undergrounds. Democratic Underground will always be Democratic Underground.

So my suggestion to you all, for those who think this is Obama Underground, don't. It is not. There are other places other than GD-P to visit, so it's just not Obama 100% all day, 24/7/365.

And happy leap day everyone.

Hawkeye-X

1. Let me make it clear: It will be by March 5th.
Edited on Fri Feb-29-08 01:34 PM by Occam Bandage
Yeah, I know your point. But if you really can't stand Obama, this will not be the appropriate site for you after Hillary drops out.

5. Beat me to it.
After Mar. 4th, she will not be able to win.

Obama will be the presumptive nominee.

And, well, you know the rules on DU...

8. And while, as OP says, there certainly will be much mention of other Democrats,
Obama-McCain will dominate the discussion, much as Kerry-Bush did. Sure, there'll be other races (I'm sure Franken-Coleman will get some discussion), but it'll be Obama Underground for the most part.

Edited on Fri Feb-29-08 01:39 PM by Occam Bandage
those who find this place "Obama Underground," and are irritated by that, will find that things will only get worse after March 4th, and will not get better until the election.

Edit: The "you" was not you in particular, but was a general pronoun. I should have written, "If one really can't stand..."

16. Barely any of the old Deaniacs are Hillary supporters this time.
In fact one interesting thing is that I've noticed some DIE-HARD Kerry people from even before he won Iowa who have come out for Obama with guns blazing. To think what enemies we once had who are now allies.

45. Amen to that - Kerry supporter here who NEVER insulted a Dean person, or Dean either!
I always liked the good Dr. and supported the 50 state strategy as essential to reawakening the party from ground up.
He was just a 2nd choice, and same for Clark as an alternate. Matter of fact, we had a rich selection, outside of joementum.
So, no enemy here, just fellow dem wing of the dem party paople, now totally for Obama.

It's way too nasty this year. bleh.
check out the Fort worth pics of the rally, and also the clinton rally will be on c-span at 1:45 ET, according to their site. (11 am cst in realtime, I think.)

...it is very uncool to pervert the name of this forum in order to slam a Dem Candidate. And, yeah, unless the sig line goes, then IMO the person using it needs to go.

If someone slams DU with each and every post made, then they really do not need to be here with the rest of us DUers.

43. HRC can't deliver what she promised..
... and neither can Obama. They can make a good faith effort, and that is all that can be expected.

I don't think many people vote for a president based on line items in his/her agenda, because most of us understand that campaigns are about aspirations not certainties. Rather, they vote for the person that wins their trust.

Obama has done a better job of winning that trust whether you think that is fair or not. I expect him advocate policies that mirror his aspirations, and if we're lucky enough to get control of Congress I think there will be some CHANGES.

In 2004, we didn't "decide to ban most of the vocal Deaniacs." We banned people who repeatedly broke the rules, regardless of which candidate they supported. It's been four years since that primary. I think it's time for the "Skinner purged Dean supporters" falsehood to come to an end.

Oh, by the way, I voted for Dean in the DC primary in 2004. I think enough time has passed so I can make that public.

I never thought that you were being unfair to Dean supporters, The only problem I had was that there seemed to be a huge influx of Clark supporters who came from nowhere and were a holy terror to behold. But that's hardly something to blame mods and admin for.

44. As I Recalls It
Edited on Sat Mar-01-08 09:02 AM by Crisco
Most of the Dean peeps who were banned were people who went above and beyond acceptable posting. Not that I blamed anyone.

I remember that after a certain point - somewhere between September and November, but especially after Clark got into the race - it wasn't possible for Dean supporters to have a discussion about their candidate without being treated the way a dog treats a fire hydrant. People were pissed.

The individual candidate supporter groups didn't exist, there was no where else to go to but to another site.

You talk about the Hillary is 44 site, to me that site looks like such a joke I find it hard to believe it's not disinformation.

Nonetheless, Obama supporters have absolutely no right, at this time, to demand they be treated with kid gloves. He's not the Nominee.

46. I agree...
everyone is basically seeking the same goal which a to have a true democracy, in this great country as ours. We should be the ones with the power, and it should not even matter who our politicians, or leaders are. We give them to much power, make them into gods, and when we do that they are bound to fail -- because they are human beings just like you and I.

A politician only has as much "control" over your lives as you give him. Give them none, and force them to be more democratic, in a true democracy.
