Voted to fund the war. Ending the war NOW should be the TOP priority... everything else is rubbish when these wars are draining our resources to deal with any other issues.

146. Obama's lack of experience is a legitimate topic
he is going to have to win people over on this point, so I don't understand the Obama supporters reaction to this ad. You had better learn how to deal with it because if he wins the nomination you can be damned sure that the Republicans will make Hillary's ad look tame by comparison.

can hold hearings on Afghanistan???

Here's a geography lesson for you - Afghanistan is in ASIA!!!

Did you get your script from Karl Rove?

151. Here's a clue
Europe is part of NATO

NATO has many troops in Afghanistan. He does have oversight authority, to bad he didn't hold a hearing. Especially since he made that claim about the poor soldier who had to take weapons from dead afghanis because the US didn't supply them with enough weapons. It's a shame really.

154. That's more than a stretch, that's desperation.

There are countries from many areas of the world with troops in Afghanistan, have any of the other six Senate Committee on Foreigh Relations subcommittees (chaired by six other Democratic Senators) held oversight hearings on Afghanistan? I'd guess no.

So tell us, how many oversight hearings has Hillary Clinton held on Afghanistan? For that matter, how many committees does Hillary Clinton chair? I think you'd be embarassed by the true answers. The fact is, Clinton has held exactly the SAME number of oversight hearings that Barack Obama has held.

his committee didn't have anything to do with ASIA!!!

Me a grip? At least I'm not twisting facts to take cheap shots at a candidate who has done MORE than the other one in less years in the Senate.

150. And so has Hillary....
The difference is she helped put us there in the first place, while Sen. Obama was speaking out publicly, during a Senate race against the war, or to be more accurate - against trusting GWB's word that he would abide by the conditions set forth in the RAUF.

And her concrete plan to withdraw all combat troops within 6 months of inauguration day. You're right she's way better on the war than Obama.

:sarcasm:

P.S. I was an Edwards Supporter and would have liked nothing better than to be able to cast my vote for him here in PA. But that isn't the choice I have. It isn't the choice WE have. We do have a choice between someone who spent his whole life in the trenches organizing when he could have been making 6 figures to start at almost any large law firm as a former head of the Harvard Law Review. A man who fought, and WON, legislative battles at the state level only one of which resulted in the law mandating video taping of ALL police interrogations (over the objections of everyone form blood thirsty hang 'em high death penalty lovers to police, to the anti-death penalty folks on the left). Yeah he's the guy who Co-authored ethics reform while the other remaining candidate, despite being duped on the RAUF, STILL voted for Kyle-Lieberman.

And what did the other candidate do? Well she sat on corporate boards, including Wal-Mart, has 8 years of experience in elected office from a state she never lived in until she decided she wanted to run for Senate, got duped into making a vote she regretted but not enough to not make essentially the exact same vote four years later, and in her eight years in office never took a stand ever that might slow her march to the White House --- Oh yeah and through her high handed handling of the one policy initiative she actually gets to take credit for during her husband's administration, had a hand in failed health care reform. Every single one of her other "accomplishments" were actually accomplishments of her husband.

When I voted for Bill Clinton (twice) I was Voting for HIM as President, and HE accomplished a lot. She doesn't get to take credit for what he did. Don't get me wrong, when she was elected to the Senate I had high hopes for her. I knew that she had to be a person of immense personal strength and will to have weathered the storms she did. I thought that personal strength would make her a bull dog for the people. Unfortunately her better nature was subsumed by her ambition, and the bull dog was muzzled in the service of political expedience and calculation. Her experience is smoke and mirrors and coat-tail riding. And Obama's accomplishments (and mistakes) are his own. He is not the messiah and he is not perfect, but he stands on his own two feet. And YES one of the tools he no doubt used to accomplish the things he has is is power to inspire and bring people of differing points of view together long enough to see the big picture and the wisdom of making the changes he backed.

What action has Obama taken in the Senate, anyway, except for voting the same as Hillary? If you'll check their records, you'll see that he did not vote on the same matters where Hillary did not vote. Like her shadow or something. And in this case, the shadow doesn't know.

on foreign & domestic policy.

NOBODY in america things that senate hearings are the key to Afghanistan.

Judgement is.

Not Mrs. Clinton who will do anything, and vote for anything - 1000% based on political calculation.

Totally lacking principals as she plays "company woman on Walmart Board"

Nothing could be further than a commander in chief than Senator "Do AnyThing 4 Politics" Clinton.

112. OK, a little reality check....
In the current session, Clinton has sponsored 152 bills, Obama has sponsored 113. All things considered these are fairly equivalent records, especially considering a two of Clinton's "sponsored" bills are:

"A resolution supporting the goals and ideals of Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Month."
"A resolution recognizing April 30, 2007, as "National Healthy Schools Day". "

PLUS, 41 of those 152 bills are listed with the heading "Purpose will be available when the amendment is proposed for consideration"

Quite an impressive record if you ask me!

118. Isn't this space for everyone?
Don't forget that Hillary has been in the Senate 2 more years than Obama and only has 40 more bills sponsored. some of Obama's bills have been co-sponsored by HIllary, Hillary has a lot of bills with no other sponsor. Obama has PASSED a government transparency act with a Republican and a non-proliferation bill with another. Hillary has zero bills sponsored with someone from the other side. Obama is our only chance to work with republicans because he has already done it. 47% say they will never vote for Hillary while Obama has alot of Republicans crossing over.
So instead of asking what Obama has done, you should be looking it up, Obama has done more than Hillary in 2 less years. Obama is the one attracting independents and republicans not Hillary.
I am beginning to believe that it is the Hillary supporters who are duped and delusional.

I was pointing out how much better Obama's record in the Senate is vs. what people here are trying to portray. He's introduced more substantive legislation, has gotten broader support for his legislation, and although he hasn't sponsored as many bills as Clinton, his were more meaningful AND he's gotten more PASSED. It's one thing to introduce legislation, it's another to get it passed.

89. Nicely done.
As a supporter rebuttal, I commend you for the work.

Speaking with the intent of neutrality, with my political junkie / analyst hat on, I'm not sure I would recommend this Ad be placed in Texas or Ohio markets, because it invites another Obama counter AD that reinforcement of his current message of "judgment <> experience" -- it invites an ad once again going for the IWR vote and it would probably be better to try to get away from that as much as possible.

Putting my Obama supporter hat on, I'd just like to mention that this isn't really a "rebuttal" - its a deflection. Obama's counter ad makes the point that the best person to "answer the phone" in the White House is someone with sound judgment, and that Clinton's vote on one of the most important resolutions in modern history doesn't reflect the judgment to be President. Saying as a "rebuttal," oh yeah, well he's never held a committee meeting - doesn't quite seem to "rebut" the ad.

Putting my junkie / analyst had back on again, if I were to advise Clinton, I would suggest that they do continue to attack Obama on his qualifications for president, but that they respond directly to his attempt at the meme "I have the best judgment, which matters more than experience." Develop ads that somehow make the point, when has Obama ever been tested to demonstrate sound judgment on anything? Then list a bunch of examples of Clinton combining both her experience and good judgment to get certain big things done in the Senate. (Hey, I said I was trying to be neutral - I think that whole argument against Obama is bunk, but that's still what I would suggest if they were paying me to consult with them.) :)

and you all keep saying she was wrong to vote for IWR, I think hindsight is 20/20 and yes, no one should have given the traitor any war powers, but at the time, don't forget the media climate...if you didn't go along with everything *ush was asking for then you were against the troops and weak on national security...

How could any Democrat not go along then, or be destroyed? Your "reality" is far from the truth...

127. What cult?
Just because people like Obama, that doesn't make it a cult!

You should use language more acturately. He has mass appeal even though you don't like him. If he is a cult leader, so was Bill Clinton, Ronald Reagan, Martin Luther King, Cesar Chavez, the Dali Lama, Nelson Mandela, Leck Waleza, and Hillary Clinton to a certain extent.

If those are cult leaders, then we're all cultists!

Now, please explain why it's the truth and try not to resort to name calling or labeling.

131. No, we're all stupid
unless we support Clinton. You didn't tell me why liking Obama means we're in a cult. Is it because you don't really have an answer. Suppose I'm in a cult. Will making a false accusation cause me to change?

I don't think so. Explain why I'm in a cult and you're not. I'm listening.

Perhaps you have faith and believe in Clinton like many people believe in Obama.

Are you in a cult? Are McCain or Huckabee followers in a cult? Are Obama's supporters in a cult because he is a good orator? Clinton's followers are not in cult because she talks about "experience" and not hope or faith.

How is it really different. He does talk about specifics. The problem is that the media doesn't mention the specifics and they focus on his "rock star" image. Also, the media likes his story and they don't always, sometimes but not always, give Clinton a fair viewing because of her husbands record.

Cult memeber,
Tex Shelters

121. I found this disturbing, I think.
For the record, I was an Edwards supporter and leaning Obama (though since I live in NY and have already voted in the primary to whom I'm leaning is not relevant since I'm voting for whomever is nominated.)However, I was disturbed by this because on its face, it looks bad.

Before posting here, I did some research on the subject. I found several items that spoke about the irrelevancy of this fact because the whole SFRC had held and was planning to hold hearings on NATO's role in Afghanistan. Two other items have stuck in my head about whether or not the fact that he did not hold hearings is relevant. First, why has the Clinton campaign waited until now to bring it up when it appears desperate to stave off the Obama tide? If it was so important, why wait? Second, John Kerry and Chris Dodd (also is on the subcommittee Obama chairs), both members of the Committee have endorsed Obama. So, I'm just not sure what to think.

124. Very nice. You used my favorite phrase, too:
ACTIONS SPEAK LOUDER THAN WORDS, BARACK!

125. What does this have to do with Obamas response to the ad
Clever YouTube video that doesn't address Obama's response at all. What does it have to do with the ad? Perhaps Obama didn't have those hearings. Thanks for pointing it out. But is is unclear whether he is committee chair, just didn't convene one (in that case, why didn't Clinton convene the committee?) or what? And don't call me an Obamaniac when I say:

Don't give this (3 AM phone call) ad legitimacy!

Why are we giving this right-wing fear-mongering TV ad any credibility by talking about it. This damn hypothetical is from a Clinton campaign that wants people to vote out of fear. Thus, we get four more years of Bush, I mean McCain. I want a President who has good relationships with the world so when the phone does ring, it's not a terrorist threat, it's a natural disaster or some other disaster we can't prevent with good planning. Bush was not prepared to prevent 9/11. That's why it happen! Clinton is very capable of creating the relationships we need for peace, and I wish she would stick to the issues and not try to create votes from fear.

Certainly, neither Senator Obama nor Senator Clinton will keep reading "The Pet Goat" for minutes after being informed of terrorist attacks.

Stop the fear mongering.

Vote!

Tex Shelters

PS: If Clinton stopped attacking Obama and talked more about what she believed, more people might support her. As it stands, she sound like she's working for McCain.

129. Suppose I'm stupid; why don't you educate me and explain what you're talking about.
We're not mind readers. What are you talking about? Afganistan?! So, what has Hillary done to get at the terrorist other than inflame Iran by calling the national guard a terrorist organization.

I know the ad mentions Afganistan. So? The President is Commander-in-Chief, not Senator Obama. He's talking about what he will do as President. Why are you supporting fear mongering?

Tex

130. Boy you really aren't that bright are you?
If he doesn't even give a shit enough to hold one hearing, what will he give a shit about if he's president? He is using that committee appointment to use as clout in his campaign and he never even held one freaking hearing. The man is an empty suit, an empty vesell, he's not the type, with his little experience, I want answering the phone at 3am.

Besides the point that he is nothing but a chicago politician, who knows the rough and tumble corrupt politics of chicago.

133. Ad hominem attacks are very mature
Insulting people is really great! Thanks!

So you don't like Obama. Fine. Insults are unnecessary. He didn't hold a hearing on Afghanistan. Valid point. It could be made without all the hate. And people say Obama supporters are hateful. In fact, most supporters are. Too bad. I am willing to learn, but you don't seem to be willing to educate without insulting people. Too bad. Are you angry because you hate Obama, love Hillary and are disappointed or you fear for our country?

And how many "hearings" has Hillary had. Or is it that she didn't know what she knows now.

Tex

135. I tend to agree with one sentiment.
I'm puzzled as to why no hearings. However, I'm not at the point of disturbed yet, and here's why. I don't know if any other subcommittees held hearings. So, I don't know how out of the ordinary this is. In addition, if this is such a big deal, why bring it up now? Finally, again if this is such a big deal, why do Kerry and Dodd (both members of the SFRC and Dodd a member of Obama's subcommittee) endorse him? Is there some sort of odd Senate protocol that he would have violated by holding hearings when the main Committee was doing so? It just doesn't make sense to me. Let me be clear, I'm not defending Obama, and I'm not defending this post. None of these questions make sense.

139. Here's why no hearings:
The subcommittee Obama chairs is responsible for European Affairs. Everyone here is whining about why Obama's committee didn't hold a hearing on Afghanistan. I suppose once Afghanistan moves from ASIA  to Europe he'll hold a hearing!!

138. WHY SHOULD HE HOLD A HEARING ON AFGHANISTAN???
Obama is Chairman of the Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs' Subcommittee on EUROPEAN AFFAIRS!!!!

Do you know where Afghanistan is? A S I A ! ! !

After you finish boning up on geography, please answer this question - WHAT committee or subcommittee does Clinton chair? Obama is in his first term as Senator and he's accomplished more than Clinton has and she's in her second term.

If you're going to claim people "aren't that bright", PLEASE make sure you've educated yourself on the issue, ok? Only makes YOU far from bright.
