If Mike Gravel doesn't win the nomination, it won't be because he's a white male.
And it won't be because he was wrong on the issues either.

babylonsister, I love it when you post on DU, no matter what
the topic is.

Yes. The masses didn't move toward Mike and the media peed their pants every time he walked into a room or onto a debate stage.

So I guess the take-away message is that if a candidate is a white male, he will have to be a sort of Ronnie Reagan-type white male instead of a Dennis Kucinich, John Edwards, or Mike Gravel white male.

3. I had hoped to strike both chords, but I'm re-reading back issues
of Weekly World News on the Anna Nicole Smith funeral.

That Anna Nicole Smith sure was somethin'.

7. McCain should drop out of the race and write his memoirs.
I'd love to hear more about the Peloponnesian War.

13. And liberal, at least economicaly
I guess Gravel should get an award for that- it's pretty hard to make McCain look young and liberal.

9. Blue_In-AK, hello to ya and you are right about Gravel.
He's a right-on true blue soul and I really respect him.

I heard him on the RING OF FIRE program last Saturday and he was absolutely excellent.

People may laugh at him, but I think he's fabulous. And I LOVE his sense of humor. That Christmas YouTube video alone made his candidacy worthwhile. "Aw, hell, it's Mike Gravel."

18. He does have a great sense of humor. I thought he and Biden, among
our 8 candidates, led the league in that category.

8. Publicly reveling in stiffing credit card companies doesn't much help, either...
Sure, it appeals to children and anarchists, but some of us like the warm feeling that our fellow creatures feel beholden to their word. Gauche, I know, but it's a failing of many of us.

24. SURE you didn't...
...explain the crotchless jodhpurs and sequined jackboots then, willya? That sweet young lady in Bangalore STILL doesn't believe a word I say, and it took three calls to her just to get the charges taken off. I hope you're happy.

Feh.

these last several days now and it's a long string of sound observation and well-written stuff.

Thanks for that, and a happy Leap Year Day also.

12. Hillary or Obama should choose Mike Gravel as their running mate.
Edited on Fri Feb-29-08 10:52 PM by Mooney
He's served more time in the Senate than both of them put together, and he was in the military. He makes up for both candidates' weaker areas. And look at what he used to look like when he was in the senate in the 1970's:

That Mike Gravel was easy on the eyes, and I'll tell you that for free. Raaaaarrrrrr!!!!!!

16. Sturdy good looks back then and still keen as a deep blue whistle even now.
Each time I take one of those issues-alignment pick-a-candidate quizzes, Mike Gravel is my guy, or tied with one or two others.

But always very, very high on the list.

I'd like to hear a genuinely progressive Democrat debate a FOX News nitwit on the issues.

But it seems like maybe it won't happen.

Still, he's a good man.
