25. If Hillary is not the nominee I think Wes is a strong enough Democrat to support the nominee
And I think he would fight like hell to defeat McCain. If he is asked to be VP by Obama I think he would give it his all.

11. I don't think so
It looks good on paper, but Clark is much more accomplished than Obama. Why, then, would he do this? If history is any guide it's not as though he'd be guaranteed the presidency in 8 years. If Obama is the nominee, he'll need to find a complementary partner with equivalent experience in national politics. Clark isn't the one, and besides, as others have noted, he's clearly in the Clinton camp.

13. Wes would do it if he were asked
because he's a patriot; he is NOT looking for applause or guarantees about 8 years hence.

20. I don't see how it will hurt Obama
and it would definately help on the experience front. Especially in issues of national security, which could be McCain's strongpoint

27. Clark would do this if it would help our party and if it would help the USA
Clark is one of those rare birds who cares more for his country than his own personal ambition. He would do quite well in an Obama administration, come to think of it. Yes He Can!

35. What else is he going to do with his time?
Edited on Sat Mar-01-08 02:06 AM by Leopolds Ghost
If Obama is the nominee, it will either mean the ascendancy of the populist Dean wing of the party or the formation of a "shadow White House" of ex-Clintonistas (party wise men) seeking to influence Obama. Either way, the Clintons themselves will be eclipsed and Clark will no longer be able to depend on them for patronage. Clark (who in many ways is to the left of Hillary) would be left out in the cold if he did not accept a high-level position in the new administration, and I think he would prefer VP to SecDef.

18. Clark is too much of a Clinton loyalist
I think John Kerry would make a good Vice President, he's not southerner but he is smart, has a load of experience plus he's a war veteran.

21. NO!!
Obama should choose John Kerry for Secretary of State. Clark should be invited to be Sec. of Defense. I like Chris Dodd for VP. Mucho experience and speaks fluent Spanish!! I would also love to see John Edwards as Attny General!! He's a bulldog that would grab those neocons by the ass and not let go!! Of course this is just my dream team, and my opinion! I'm going to bookmark this post to see how close I come to his actual choices!! Maybe a spot for Hillary as Sec. of Education, and health.

31. It is illegal to make Clark Sec of Defense. The law says civilian for 10 years
I find this annoying that people would have the knee-jerk reaction that because he was in the military, that is the only role he could play. He would make a MUCH better president than OBama or Clinton. But VP or Sec of State would be ok.

29. Clark is loyal to the Clintons but on the other hand he wanted to run in 08
Edited on Sat Mar-01-08 12:44 AM by earthlover
If hillary is not the nominee, he would have no logical reason not to accept the vp. Loyalty to hillary or the clintons is irrelevant at that point, since it isn't as if they would be running against Obama at this point....

Clark on the ticket would actually be a good thing towards uniting the ticket. This is an arguement FOR Clark, not against him.

34. I think the Clintons will hold a grudge against Obama and anyone
else who challenges their influence over the Democratic Party, they will always feel their way is better. Dean was the first to really challenge the Clintons influence over the Democratic party and they've been at odds with him ever since. They are not even close to Gore any more since he walked away from the DLC way of way of thinking.

23. I know he was with Senator Clinton today
Edited on Fri Feb-29-08 11:50 PM by SoonerPride
That's what made me think of it.

I saw him on TV coverage of her campaign today and went "bingo."

Strong national defense.
Party uniter, bringing Clinton wing with him in tow.
Another 'outsider' untainted by special interests.

That's a winner.

33. It's genius, if it can be done....
Clark is a real-deal war hero - silver star and purple heart - AND he's an honest to God General. An antidote to Mccain on all fronts - he is also one of the smartest guys in Washington.....IIRC Mccain barely graduated Annapolis, and Clark was in the top 5% of his class...this is all from memory so YMMV....

Anyhow, I'm thinkin' Clark is the perfect vice-president for whichever Dem gets the nod.
