Black backers steadfast for Clinton
Black backers steadfast for Clinton

African-American superdelegates said Thursday that they’ll stand up against threats, intimidation and “Uncle Tom” smears rather than switch their support from Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton to Sen. Barack Obama.

“African-American superdelegates are being targeted, harassed and threatened,” said Rep. Emanuel Cleaver II (D-Mo.), a superdelegate who has supported Clinton since August. Cleaver said black superdelegates are receiving “nasty letters, phone calls, threats they’ll get an opponent, being called an Uncle Tom.

“This is the politics of the 1950s,” he complained. “A lot of members are experiencing a lot of ugly stuff. They’re not going to talk about it, but it’s happening.”

-snip-

Cleaver questioned why white superdelegates such as Massachusetts Sens. Edward M. Kennedy and John F. Kerry weren’t being targeted to support Clinton after she carried their state.

“If white people were being harassed and threatened because they were not supporting a white candidate, we’d see headlines,” he said.

Hmmm, How about: If women were being harassed and threatened because they were not supporting a women, we’d see headlines? Apparently not!

3. I wonder what has Clinton promised these black so called
leaders that would make them go against the wishes of their constituencies. Personally I don't feel sorry for them. It's time for half of the members in the CBC to retire anyway they've lost touch. With their push for Democrats to debate on Fox News, to their cozying up to big business so I wonder what's behind this unbreakable bond with the Clintons?

8. I don't have any proof, just a gut feeling.

Why else would they put their careers on the line for queen Hillary. I know the super delegates can vote as they please but they are still elected representatives and they would have to be foolish or bought off to go against the will of up to 90% of their constituents. They are out of touch and deserve a primary opponent. That's my take on it so accept it and STFU you Hillary worshiper

5. Maybe they know more about Obama than the general public does.
Maybe they don't like him or his goofy church or maybe they have fondness for the Clinton's for the past battles.

12. Or maybe Obama being the new young guy, the older women
tried hit on him or make a pass at him and he politely turned them down and they've been pissed ever since. There's nothing like a woman scorned.

11. Even if we go that route Obama still would win,
Obama would have to give up a few of his Super delegates but Hillary would have to give up a whole lot of hers.

10. Does he seriously think Kennedy and Kerry aren't being targeted?
If so, he's either seriously deluded or seriously naive.

15. It was awful the way black candidates intimidated fellow blacks in the 50s
Oh wait...there were no black candidates in the 50s.

Seriously, what the hell?
