Clinton on SNL (video included)
Democratic presidential contender Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton managed to steal away from her regular campaigning for a 'surprise' guest-spot on Saturday Night Live last night

Hysterical!

1. last week was one of the best SNL's in years
last night was just awful.

Ellen Page was just abysmal as a host and none of the skits, except for the Digital Short, were any good.

And I like Fred Armizen, but his Obama is just bad. He doesn't know how to play him, nor does he have a hook for him.

2. The opening skit was hysterical, however
And Clinton has pretty good timing as a comedian.

4. in terms of funny politicians
I think Al Gore is hysterical.

Obama has a cool, biting sense of humor.

Hillary is good, but I think her timing is a little off and she telegraphs her lines too much.

60. i'm fine
I'm just waiting for SNL to get funny again.

plus, nothing bothers me more than people who find something that's obviously not funny - hysterical just because it advances a point of view they have.

Lampoon Obama and make it funny, I'll laugh. But if you lampoon hillary and don't make it funny, I'm not going to laugh just because I'm on the side that should find it funny.

They don't take themselves sooooooo seriously and know that it takes a strong person to laugh at themselves. Clinton is too insecure to pull it off.

And SNL is "totally in the tank" for Hillary. I'm guessing it's because Amy Poehler is great at playing her, but they still haven't found a suitable Obama. :-)

6. The media propaganda machine does swing slowly.
Hillary has basked in its light for so long it is hard to imagine tough times. I supported Kucinich and it was awful to watch the media dissection. First we had the top 'three' then 'two' and now... I think the talking heads are trying their darnedest to keep Hillary in the race. Peace, Kim

8. I think "basking in the light" is incorrect. Only kids and dogs think that negative
attention is better than none at all. Clinton has been attacked constantly in the media. The only reason she is not winning is because of the leg-up the media gives Obama constantly from the hiding of Rezko, Nafta issues for obama to helping him shout "Racism" from the rooftops.

13. I disagree and thanks for the slam.
What you do not remember is that for the last two years at least, the likes of Chris Matthews and other talking heads have assumed that Hillary would be the candidate. In the run up to these selections Hillary was the beneficiary of an American Sell Job. I don't care if you admit it but it did happen. I just don't understand your position here. You really would have died to watch your candidate get five minutes in a debate or have her picture cut from the official debate photo the morning after. It happened to others. If you didn't speak out for the likes of Kucinich when it was happening I don't feel sorry for you now. Ya know it sucked to be me when it was my guy and now...it sucks to be you. First they came for my neighbor and I said nothing.......then they came for me kind of thing. Peace, kIm

But it does not have to be either / or. Clinton is not getting a fair press airing.

If you want to suggest that Clinton got lots of attention from "Tweety" remember that he has been slamming her for years. They set her up as the presumptive only to knock her down.

20. Why not speak out when Kucinich is being eliminated by the
practices that you object to today? When I was calling the newspaper in Iowa where were the Clinton supporters? Why did Hillary participate in a debate the excluded people who had met all criteria? My point is that when Hillary people could have addressed this problem they did nothing. The Edwards folks did nothing but certainly cried foul as the MSM eliminated him for Hillary. Go figure.

9. The Skit was Funny
But, jeez ... keep old Hill, herself, away from comedy.

She reminds me of a teenager girl's mother who is trying too hard to 'relate' to the daughter's teenage friends.

Some people just cannot be funny, Hill is one of those people -- she and her campaign should accept that and let her be the frenetic policy scold that she really is.

Besides, in spite of being Mr. Mom ... my kids still refer to me occasionally as the 'Old Man'.

And don't you think "Old Hill" emphasizes her "experienced" theme?

Maybe the Clinton(s) campaign should adopt the title as a positive? Kind of get her in the same league as John McCain?

Hmmm.

Now I'm just being sarcastic, aren't I?

I can't believe anyone is upset by that.

No, I take that back. I can believe it, but at least now I know the ones who are upset have an even slimmer grasp on reality than I would have previously suspected. Both segments were ok (not a big SNL fan, and I think Amy Poehler is totally wasted on the show after The Upright Citizens Brigade), but neither one is even close to anything to get upset or bent out of shape over. The Clinton segment was actually fairly funny.

I worry about this place.

not sure i have the right spelling. the first movie i remember him in was adventures in babysitting, the tall scary guy (mechanic i think?) then he was in 13th floor, #2 supporting guy, then he was the dad in thumbsucker. decent actor.

obama supporter but can honestly say i liked hillary's performance a lot; she's so much more likable when she's not so serious and domineering. SNL is clearly biased to her side, but that's their right eh? Amy Poehler does a good impersonation of her and parts of the skectch were funny. the guy who does obama is terrible.

43. Obama supperters can down play, but ...
This is the kind of thing that can get a lot of play and make a difference.

It happened w/ Bill in '92 when he was given the simple question, boxers or briefs?

It wasn't so much that MTV made a difference, or what Bill's answer was.

Hillary was presented to us from behind a desk, by herself, with a huge smile on her face in a light moment. It was the kind of picture we could only hope to have in the Oval Office.

Barack was presented as a stuffy statue.

Very inaccurate, but SNL displayed the contrast, which was underscored when we saw Hillary. She was full of life; even more so than the SNL actress who played her. While Hillary was alone behind the desk it worked, it sent a message similar to the more direct message sent when Gore was on the show as (in my best dreams) President Gore.

But ... the skit went down hill as soon as the awkward interaction between Hill and the SNL actress unfolded. Hillary was then trying to make the rest of the skit take place as rehearsed and the timing was off. What worked politically in the first moments of seeing her collapsed and leaned against the legacy of SNL more than the last moments of the skit. We knew she was painfully leading into the "Live from New York ..." line and trying to be funny and not too political. It was skidding into being painful to watch.

Still ... in this process the laughs aren't always there when it comes to Hillary, and when they are most times we're not laughing with her, we're laughing at her, feeling sorry for her, or just wincing and shaking our heads.

The SNL skit gave us the opportunity to sit aside which candidate we're siding with and to just laugh ... at least for most of the skit.

For those who agree w/ SNL's and Hillary's assessment of the MSM's treatment of Obama this skit could play well. It could get some traction. For those on the fence or not paying attention (79.5% of Americans) it could also get traction. Most people aren't news junkies. They don't blog, they live, they have fun, they die. They like it that way.

This skit could be the way most Americans prefer to digest "news" and "politics." If that's true, Obama could find himself skidding.

Sad, but it could happen.

Oh, by the way, I wear briefs. I'm old school like that, Fruit of the Loom. Not that it should matter in political discussion circles ... should it?

SNL is a NY show. People (all across America) EXPECT them to be on the side of the NY candidate so the fact that SNL is shilling for Clinton is not a surprise and will not be an influence.

If it was a perceived neutral show, it would mean something.

65. Man, Obama's impersonator is a lot better this week...

He's got Obama's speech pattern and annunciation down a lot better this week. It's hilarious....lol.

70. Thank you so much!
I have gotten out of habit to watch SNL - last week was an exception that I really enjoyed.

This one was great.

The actor who play Obama - I know that some complain that he is fully white, instead of half - really captured his manner of speech.

What is nice is that one part of NBC - SNL - is going after another part - MSNBC.
