Richardson, Durbin Call for Clinton to quit after Tuesday
Edited on Sun Mar-02-08 04:12 PM by Royal Oak Rog
Clinton team vows to fight on after Ohio, Texas by Stephen Collinson

Obama ally, Senator Richard Durbin, suggested Clinton should rexamine her prospects after Tuesday's contests, which polls suggest she is unlikely to win in the landslides she needs to top his lead among Democratic delegates.

"I hope that there's an honest appraisal of her chances to win the nomination after Tuesday," Durbin told Fox News Sunday, as Democrats eye a general election clash with presumptive Republican nominee John McCain.

"And having made that appraisal... I hope she'll understand that we need to bring our party together and prepare for a victory in November, which is the ultimate goal."

Former Democratic candidate Bill Richardson meanwhile, yet to endorse either of his former rivals, also weighed in.

"D Day is Tuesday. We have to have a positive campaign after Tuesday," Richardson, who abandoned his own White House bid in January, said on CBS News.

"Whoever has the most delegates after Tuesday, a clear lead, should be in my judgment the nominee."

Congress is enough experience to be president of the US. He can't even hold meetings for the commitee he chairs. So who's going to do his work for him if he gets the WH? Hillary like most working women has learned to work hard to keep up with everything.

57. Agreed. It's not like Richardson doesn't recognize who will have the most delegates ....
... after Tuesday. That may not have been a literal endorsement from Richardson, but it's damn close to an anti-endorsement of Clinton -- from someone who had been expected to lean towards her campaign, given his time in the previous Clinton Admin.

Given his statements, he obviously knows who's going to be ahead in delegates,
so he should help the chosen dem nominee by getting behind him before Tues.

12. I don't understand the strategy, frankly
She is trying to beat Obama with arguments McCain could easily turn on her in a general election. If she is successful, she is self defeating.

There are good reasons to support either candidate. Obama's campaign has done a masterful job of communicating this, and Clinton's campaign has failed her.

The scary part, is that should she get the nomination, many on her lackluster staff will get key positions in her administration. I would gladly vote for Clinton in a general election, but I do have to wonder if the strategy of such an administration would be one of "inevitably things will get better".

28. Neither one can achieve the "magical" number unless the sooooooopers
Edited on Sun Mar-02-08 04:25 PM by SoCalDem
turn in THEIR ballots on Tuesday...which they SHOULD do..

The number 2025 is a combined number, with almost 800 who can be coy, and withhold their votes until THEY decide who should "win".. It makes a mockery of the primary system..

The total should be 1444...

3253 pledged (non sooooopers)
-366 (Fl & MI)

2887 divided by 2 + 1 = 1444

That IS an achievable number..

Give the sooooopers a private all-you-can-eat buffet, valet parking & front row seats at the convention & party hats with big ole feathers, but not an extra-special-sooper-dooper vote..

Since Iowa, there has been no day that Clinton
A) won more delegates than Obama
B) was ahead of Obama in the total delegate count

Clinton's lead was never anything more than a fiction created by the media.

though I tend to agree with you. Anticipating the result like Durbin and Richardson are doing is wrong. The voters are the ones who need to send the message and that will be delivered late Tuesday night. For all we know, HRC will be the frontrunner on Wednesday (though I doubt that).

25. oh, stop this kiddie stuff already.
I have known my senator, Dick Durbin, since he first ran for national office. The man is extremely hard working, responsive, smart, and dedicated. Your kind of shit is just that. BULLSHIT. Durbin is just the kind of person every state in the nation would be proud to have representing them, their state, and their country.

Shame on you. No, wait. as a hillarian, you have no shame. Nor sense.

I also have had personal dealings with Hillary. Night and day compared to Durbin. Durbin was/is professional. She was simply obnoxious, demanding, demeaning, and insulting, especially when there was no need to act that way.

As for Richardson, that man is an honorable public servant, who puts meaning into "Servant". He has repeatedly set aside personal feelings, ego, and emotion, and worked hard towards doing the right thing. In that respect, he is the anti-Clinton, who has about as much empathy as a rusted toilet. I also have had the pleasure of talking to him. (which, when I think about it, is weird, having had so much contact with presidential candidates) I do not agree with everything he stands for, but he is a fine person, an honest pol, and a talented public servant.

Hillary has acted, and continues to act exactly opposite to Durbin and Richardson. buffoons? what an absolutely stupid, inane, uninformed, and idiotic statement. Almost as though Penn and Wolfson wrote it for you.

39. And I'll personally make sure that Denver will make her FEEL unwelcome if she continues to pull this
and if she decides to drop out this week, rather than dragging on, then I'll make sure that Denver welcomes Hillary Rodham Clinton with open arms as a representative of New York.

She has to completely suspend her campaign this Wednesday for this to occur, and that is my promise if she does NOT win Texas or Ohio. Mathematically, it is impossible as we have said over and over for her to win if she does not win by over 15% in either states.
