John McCain will bring the draft if he is elected President
for his 100 year-war and martial law (rhymes) - say goodbye to your sons and daughters.

5. My neighbor uses that line
when people come up to his VVAW protest group and say they'll vote for McCain. Says it shuts them right up.

8. under martial law we would have no choice
and McCain continues to carry on the agenda of the Bushes and the Cheney gang. Yep the constitution will be a bit of flushable paper. It is impoertant that we can at least try to get someone in the White House who will clear out the corrupt executive branch. Secretly the military don't want a 100 year war!

7. He Sure Will.
Didn't he suggest that if he were in office (years ago) that he would mandate military service?

10. Good, MAYBE that will turn America against war for 10-20 years
because right now people are not disgusted with war.

Many people are still thinking about good war v bad war. There is no 'good war'. A war against Iran won't be a good war anymore than a war versus Iraq was a good war.

13. but we don't want to go down that road of war anymore but
surely the human race can rise about their terratorial instincts?
Reagan wanted his military base in the middle east to lead to greater things and Bush et al have pursued his agenda.
We have a much greater problem in the future.....China.

16. terratorial instincts predated humans
its well and truly embedded in our DNA.
So I'm not expecting humans to overcome it.
Maybe for a generation we can become disgusted with it.
But I don't expect that to survive a generation.
A draft will change the public tolerance for war.
I think a draft would be a good thing.
Make everyone bear the burden of poor public policy.

11. Actually, I think he will not bring the draft because that
will be the quickest way to erode support for his 100 year war

The Republics don't have a problem with all of the killing as long as it's not their own relatives who have to go.

14. in normal circumstances, yes but if he is elected then.....
no, because he will bring the country to a standstill for the draft. Even Republicans by then would not have a choice and it would be too late.

It is urgent that McCain is not elected.

12. I very much doubt it.

If you are trying to build (or at least maintain) support for a war, you bank on keeping the majority of the people complacent.

You don't drag away their son, nephew, or grandson to fight, you have a "volunteer" army of folks who don't have very many other choices in life.

If you want to wage all sorts of wars, you do everything you can to keep the draft away.

15. but you are assuming things will be normal
like in 9/11 which paved the way for control and spying on the American public. That is not to say that a similar Reichstag would occur and the country would again be rallied around the flag ...and McCain!!!! Clinton will probably be hoping for a similar scenario to remain in power. I think you assume the status quo?

18. No he Won't
He won't be president and hence there will be no 100 years in Iraq and no need to worry about a draft.
