Hillary's "Children" Ad, only partly a smear on Obama's "inexperience"... the other part, easy guess

Hillary does not have large military credentials, and nor does Obama has drawbacks that Clinton does not. This was a very simple ad, for the most part stating "Who do you want answering the phone? Who do you want to protect your children? Hillary or Obama? Paid for by Hillary Clinton..."

Why would someone run such a shallow, insubstantial ad? Simple, to put fear into the people even considering Obama is a Muslim... that there's even a slight chance that a MUSLIM could be answering the phone at 3 A.M.

The Muslim smears are based off of fear, and this ad was clearly based off of fear. Both play off each other in the minds of people who are ignorant or bigoted about Muslims. It's hard to imagine the ad not being designed without that aspect in mind, as without it, the ad has little to no weight. As we saw, Obama easily shot down the main message, although not the hidden message... because of him not being aware of it, I don't know... but he certainly couldn't bring it up.

3. If you think bigotry and fear is not active in America, and that campaigns don't know how to use it
I think you have a more grand tale to write than me.

4. I know it exists
Likewise, I also know that not all such allegations have any real basis in fact. People frequently see what they want to see. That doesn't mean it's there.

Nor does it mean that they are dishonest. It means that they are people. And as people, we should be willing to look at what we believe with a cool, appraising eye. Watch the ad again and take it at face value, without preconceptions.

5. Watch the ad again, and think about it from the mind of someone who fears Muslims, and suspects
Edited on Mon Mar-03-08 09:01 PM by Levgreee
Obama of being one, even slightly. 3 o'clock call, regarding national security, and the safety of your children. Is there any better way to bring that fear out?

Can you deny that there are people in this country right now that fear Muslims, and have paid even a bit attention to the claims that Obama is Muslim.

Part of intelligence is looking at things indifferently, with an appraising eye. Another important part is looking at it from other peoples' perceptions.

6. Do you see what you did?
You asked me to re-watch the ad with pre-set conceptions. Compare that to what I asked you to do and you will see why I don't think that your position is justified.
