Poll question: What's Worse? Hillary's remarks about McCain vs. Obama, or...
Obama's "praise" of Reagan?

Hillary on McCain vs. Obama:

"I have a lifetime of experience I will bring to the White House. I know Senator McCain has a lifetime of experience he will bring to the White House. And Senator Obama has a speech he made in 2002"

Obama on Reagan:

"I don't want to present myself as some sort of singular figure. I think part of what's different are the times...I think Ronald Reagan changed the trajectory of America in a way that Richard Nixon did not and in a way that Bill Clinton did not. He put us on a fundamentally different path because the country was ready for it."

Which comment was more inappropriate, coming from a Democrat during the Democratic primaries?

I'm interested in hearing your thoughts, considering the reaction to Hillary's comment reminded me very much of the reaction to Obama's.

1. Why not post the surrounding context of both quotes?

5. Because, in both instances...
Supporters for the *other* candidate insisted that context didn't matter.

And, I don't want to make the post so long that people will vote without reading the quotes.

2. given i dislike both clinton and obama
Edited on Tue Mar-04-08 10:51 AM by iamthebandfanman
id hafta say they were both wrong in doing what they did....

but if i hadta pick, atleast clinton was talking about someone she might be running against and not the dead holy martyr of neo-conservatism.

call me crazy, but commenting on a fellow canidate is probably more called for than praise of a dead actor that history falsely gives to much credit.

3. Reagan did put this country on a different trajectory and it was not necessarily a good one at all
Hillary reduced Obama's life long accomplishments to one speech and elevated McCain.

It was despicable.

9. That's a worthwhile difference. Obama did not qualify the "trajectory"...
as being good or bad.

While Hillary did seem to qualify other candidate's experience as being worthy or not.

Thanks for pointing that out.

10. Yeah this was a big deal two months ago.

Obama had described the Republican party as having been the party of ideas and then both Bill and Hill misquoted him by injecting the qualifier "good." Obama clarified later by saying, "I didn't say they were good ideas."

Unbelievable really.

4. Obama referenced Reality- Democrats need to win a real majority and grow their base
the way the GOP did with Reagan.

Clinton lied about her experience and also smeared a fellow Democrat.

enemies successes that is very enlightened. Obamas comment was not praising massive debts, dismissing of aids, Iran contra, .... He was saying Regan effected a sea change in American politics which, clearly, he did. Were still dealing with it today 20 years later the republicans are still trying to be st Ron, while there is no Democrat trying to be Bill Clinton..

Look at warfare, respect for the strengths and successes of your enemies goes almost hand in hand with success. Obama did not tear down any democrat (even Bill Clinton) when he made that statement about Regan, Hillary's comment was clearly lifting up McCain even if only to slap Obama who, while having more elected experience than her, was reduced to 'having one speech'..

i only know obama patted reagan on the back for something, ... but have really been out of the loop on the whole primary thing. i have not been a real fan of anyone, and i like dems to settle before i start going with a candidate ect....

good to know the reason he said reagans name. when he wins i will educate myself on this stuff to not sound stupid, oh.... or uninformed

23. Ive been relatively active in GDP but its getting to be too much
Hillary's choice of worse was either stupendously stupid or amazingly selfish in that she tore down a democrat with a legit chance of being the nominee. The fact some here are so rabid in support of her that she gets a pass puts an awful taste in my mouth....

Obama's Regan statement was somewhat more temperate and in no way praised Regan over Hillary or Bill.

Meh, In the end I think youre the wiser man for staying out of this petty crap, I myself tend to be something of a pain junky on the board..

13. I think you may have misread the question.
I did not ask which candidate people supported.

If you look at some of the replies above, you'll find that some of the posters, in fact, support neither.

And please highlight where in the poll I wrote, "Which candidate do you support?" as you have directly quoted me as saying.

I'll wait.

cause of the letters that my fingers would want to type to form names that I want to call Hillary.

So be as it might, I'm just restraining myself by staying silent for now.

...HRC seemed to say that either her or McCain would be a better option than Obama.
