The Official HOLY CRAP LET THIS BE OVER SOON Thread
Edited on Tue Mar-04-08 11:20 AM by grace0418
I hardly care who wins at this point, I just want it to be over. Yes, I have my preference, but I'm really more concerned about November and making sure McCain doesn't lead us into oblivion.

I can't believe how many people, ON BOTH SIDES, have made such asses of themselves here lately. And they've dragged the entire discussion down with them, if not the party as a whole.

So let's make this a bit of a vigil for all this "Obama-rocks-no-he's-the-devil-incarnate-Hillary-rules-no-she's-an-evil-shrew" FUCKING BULLSHIT to stop TODAY. PLEASE.

Who's with me?

Edited to add the following quote from downthread "Watching McCain score cheap points on the Democrats is getting old." I think this says it all, people. I know politics is ugly and a full contact sport, but do we need to be actually GIVING the Republicans ammunition?

And I was really trying to figure out what Canada had to do with it.

Sorry, continue. :)

...on second thought, I'm asking nicely that we not make this a thread to talk about how ALL the candidates suck. There are plenty of threads for that. :hi:

10. That's the point of a vigil, though.
To put the message, the vibes, the prayers, the positive energy, or whatever we want to call it out there. I know it's not going to stop today. But I freaking want it to stop. And I want everyone to KNOW I want it to stop. And I want everyone who feels like me to have a central place to send that message as well.

Facing reality does not mean stepping back and letting the bullshit go on without comment.

But I hear you OMC, it's damn frustrating.

16. I Look Forward To it As Well.
I can't wait till we can have real discussions again, and most certainly can't wait to get started thumping the republicans in the GE. Exciting times lie ahead!!! Don't forget that!!

Seriously, no matter how bad it gets here right now, it's just temporary. In the bigger picture, we have two great Dems running and one of them will be the next President. 8 years of nightmares will come to an end, and we will FINALLY have a Dem back in charge. THAT'S what matters, and though we need to still wade through this cespool of GDP right now, before you know it it'll be all hands on deck for the GE, in one of the most exciting times to be a Dem in quite some time. Look forward. We've got awesome times ahead!

24. Well, my fear, and I think I share it with others, is that we're shooting ourselves
in the collective foot for the GE by continually demonizing The Other Democratic candidate.

I really, really want the future you are describing to happen. And I still believe it will. But the dream is becoming severely tarnished by all this bile and vitriol being spewed on one another in our own damn party. I don't want the cesspool to get so deep we can't wade out of it.

37. From your mouth to God's ear, OMC!
I'd like a quick end to this tonight so the healing can begin. It won't until we get this resolved. We need it to be over and to move on and concentrate our energy is outsmarting the Republicans. We don't need to be sitting on our butts --and I include myself here, buttsitter that I am! -- and not thinking/doing for the GE.

That aside, I hope you are doing OK, OMC. How are the kids?

I started a thread this morning basically urging Obama supporters to be magnanimous in victory if Obama won in Ohio and Texas, and not kick Clinton supporters when they're down. Naturally, someone replied accusing me of posting "nasty flamebait". I'd post a link, but fortunately or unfortunately (depending on which way you look at it), the mods removed the reply.

It really bothers me when people gloat. What is the point in that? It's not exactly going to convince supporters of the losing candidate that they should vote with pleasure for the nominee.

I would post a link to the thread where I am being compared to a washcloth (huh?) for "whining" about wanting it to be over, but I'd rather that thread sink to the bottom where it belongs.

I agree. I have my preference, too, but win or lose today, I will support the Democratic nominee in November. I hope that after today, the road forward will be clear and that we will have ONE candidate on which to concentrate our efforts. That may not happen today, but I hope it does - either way.

I was just (physically) in between two Republicans talking trash about the Dems and hearing that conversation reminded me what this is all about. These two jerks are wealthy, out of touch, yet totally and completely believe that they have it all figured out and that anyone who would dare disagree with them is simply not smart enough to understand things. Such arrogance!!!!

I beg to differ with their views.

The people on this forum who have let anger, fear, pride, whatever, get in the way of backing the eventual nominee, need to take a step back, remember what is at stake come November, and re-assess just how much it all means to us.

Our way of life is at stake here!

open GDP. Even if it's just one thread.

68. Thank God someone else feels the same way I do
I was on the verge of posting some sort of similar thread myself. I don't post a lot on DU, although I have been coming to the site and reading other people's posts for a long time - years, even. I am just so saddened and disgusted by all of the vitriol displayed by so many of my fellow DUers. I can't believe how nasty people have gotten. And yeah, the Republicans are actually watching all of this with glee, thinking that despite all of the damage that Bush has done to their party, they might still triumph in November because we were so busy attacking each other that we forgot who we were really supposed to be fighting. Now, I have my favorite candidate, but that does not mean that I am not going to support the other one if it gets down to the wire. I am NOT voting for John McCain and I do not want to see him win. For the love of all that's holy, please don't lose sight of that, people. We do not need someone in the White House who gets his foreign policy advice from fucking William Kristol and Norman Podhoretz. We do not need someone that is going to put more Antonin Scalias on the Supreme Court.

First I was a "washcloth", then a whiner, now I hate democracy.

The world has gone truly mad.

I think it's awesome we're finally having a real primary where every state counts. I'm sorry you hate democracy.

70. Are you kidding me? It's "democracy" to spew lies, vitriol, hatred, racism, sexism
and other negative, non-constructive bullshit on a supposedly progressive forum? Because if that's what democracy is these days, then I guess I do hate it. I choose to believe democracy is a bit more enlightened than that. That's the democracy I love.

Give me a fucking break.

73. You think Clinton spews lies, vitriol, hatred, racism, sexism
Well I say that's your opinion and I say that's total bullshit.

I'm sorry you think the primary needs to come to an end before the remaining states have their say, I'm sorry you are against voting to have your voice heard, and I'm sorry about all the tears and whining you Obama are flooding DU with. I'm also sorry you Obama people are finding out Obama is a not who you thought he was, that he's nothing more than a politician, that he can't seal the deal, that the primary will be allowed to continue and be a real primary, but I am also not sorry at all that Clinton is going to go on and win this thing.

It is going to be awesome to have President Clinton. I guess all of us Clinton and Obama people are going to have one hell of a time at the Convention.

It's going to be an awesome 2009 with president Clinton.

Sorry Obama people...race and the primary lives and continues... thank god for democracy.

I said BOTH sides of this are equally guilty. You could at least have enough respect to read an OP before you respond with your ridiculous accusations. One of the responsibilities of being in a democratic society is to make informed decisions. Please inform yourself before you accuse me of things.

74. I leave here feeling like I've been in a battle.
And today I made the mistake of taking an "out of area" call and it was the most rude person I have ever had on the phone. He used my name and said he represented the Democratic party and basically said he needed me to donate some money. I told him I had already donated and couldn't do it again. He wouldn't shut up and was really rude. I finally said "this call is over", and hung up.

81. I make it a firm policy to NEVER make contributions over the phone, and I tell everyone
who calls me so. It makes it very quick. I don't care who it is or how much I might agree with them. If I can't go to a website and make a contribution (or at least pay via paypal), then they aren't getting my money. It's really stopped the phone calls.

75. Oh God, this election is just crazy
Edited on Tue Mar-04-08 06:50 PM by fujiyama
I love the fact that states this late are having an impact. It's been frustrating that in all previous elections, primaries this late meant nothing.

But maybe it's because much of the discourse on this site has become so vile, I just don't care anymore. I don't even care about the general election as much anymore. Don't get me wrong. I want a Dem to win and I'll vote for the Dem candidate, even though at this point I think both of them face an uphill battle against McCain (I'm a pessimist). Hell, after the awful 8 years, even McCain will be an improvement over Bush but honestly the near term future for this country will be rough regardless of who wins because of all the shit that has to be cleaned up. Of course, McCain's fp will be more of the same crap as Bush which is definitely not what we need. I honestly want the Dem candidate to tie McCain to Bush and smack him down with that. I want McCain's decision to sell himself to cost him, but there are many many stupid people out there that believes McCain is "moderate".

I just want this damn thing to end.

...this shit has gotten soooo fucking old.

While these dipshit fucktards (Hillary and Barack supporters gone nuts!!!) are fighting with each other - saying they'll vote for anyone but the (D) come Nov. - and giving the repugnicans ammo...

Don Siegelman is still in fucking jail as a political prisoner

george and dick are STILL in the white house, while impeachment proposals are finally coming through

we're still in Iraq while the only thing holding off the carnage is a bribe to the armies of Al Sadr

FISA is going to fucking PASS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

and on, and on, and on.

But, nobody fucking cares because the MSM is up to their earballs in viewers watching all this BULLSHIT.

My God, I wish I could rec this. How many fucking posts to I have to have. There are people here that have been around a shorter time and already have a 1000 fucking posts. So, because my mouth doesn't run like the source of the shit river I can't post or rec??? Nah, let the fucking freeper trolls do that so they can cause more trouble and look legit while doing it...DU has gotten fucked up, and there is no saving it because the reality show is too important.

Do you advocate silencing the voices, and making the votes irrelevant, of all those Democratic voters whose primaries haven't happened yet?

86. For the record,
I don't "hate" the players.

I don't want to see any of them as president, either. The corrupt "game" we call the primary process?

That disgusts me. I don't see it changing any as long as we keep giving it legitimacy.

89. I think you would find a majority of the people on DU agreeing
with you but good luck with the sheeple. They think the Primary system is the only way to do it.

I think the biggest problem is the corporate media though, not the Primary system. The way the Primary system works enables the corporate media to effect the process even more than they should. It allows them to vet out any real problem candidates. Problem candidates being ones that they don't agree with.

93. I see a problem with both.
Edited on Wed Mar-05-08 09:30 PM by LWolf
The corporate media is obviously a big player. When some votes count more than others, though, that's not just the corporate media.

How about banning all polls, and having one national vote-counting day, regardless of when votes were cast? If there aren't constant polls, media, and votes already counted narrowing the field and influencing voters, the process would have more integrity.

While we're at it, let's have 100% public financing of elections, with no outside campaigning allowed. Let's have guaranteed equal funding and some sort of new fairness doctrine, with guaranteed equal press/air time.

87. Nope. I advocate that the pettiness, pointless insults, bitterness and outright lies we have
been throwing at one another stop. I would like it to stop immediately regardless of the nominee and when that nominee is decided. As virtually every pundit pointed out last night, the Dems locked in a dirty fight only helps the GOP. Call the pundits what you like, the voters are thinking the same thing. As long as this pointless nastiness continues, the less of a chance we have in the GE. Every Dem vote will be irrelevant if we don't stop the bullshit soon.

92. Can that happen while still allowing the rest of the country
to participate?

Frankly, I don't like any of the candidates, so I have no reason to attack one to promote another. I don't see a positive result no matter who wins. That pisses me off; the only thing that pisses me off more is that my voice, my vote, is marginalized.

I have my preference as well (Obama), but most of all, I want the Dem nominee to win in November. I think both candidates should show us Dems their positives, not tear each other down. And they need to start attacking McCain with a vengence.
