Dirty Tricks in Texas and Ohio?
I'm receiving reports that contrary to Texas Democratic party caucus rules that preclude registration forms from being submitted before either 7:15 pm or the last vote at a precinct has been cast, Obama volunteers are handing out the forms at precincts today and asking people to fill them in and then collecting them. For Obama to submit the forms on the voters' behalf without the voter physically being present at the caucus would violate the rules.

<snip>

In Ohio, Marc Ambinder reports:

Ohio's Secretary of State, an office held by a Democrat, has rebuked Sen. Barack Obama's campaign for trying to staff precincts with poll workers who presented insufficient credentials. Obama's campaign calls this charge "wrong."

In a memo sent late this morning to county election directors by David M. Farrell, Ohio's
Deputy Assistant Secretary of State, a letter carried by Obama supporters -- signed by Obama state director Paul Tewes -- is deemed "not legally sufficient on its own to allow someone to gain access to polling places." Farrell notes that state law requires that polling observers must be "duly appointed" and have been previously issued a certificate.

2. Show me a copy of a letter
It's funny that the Clinton campaign always accuses the Obama campaign of things that turn out to be either not true, or legal all along - but the Obama campaign has actual proof of the Clinton shenanigans and the biased media never reports it.

6. Yes, exactly
Why isn't there any reporting of Hillary telling her supporters to take over the caucuses in order to control the registration and counting process. Kind of like in NV when they closed the doors early, that sort of thing. How come the media that hates Hillary hasn't reported on something that would hurt her??

5. Geez, the latter issue is just a dispute over what is required to become a poll watcher.
Th SOS says there's a prior registration required, the Obama campaign says there isn't. Apparently they're trying to work it out. Some dirty trick! Now, about saying you take Obama at his word that he's not a Muslim....

8. Hmmm...
I observed the polls in '04 and do not believe I had to show anything other than my drivers license. (Don't even recall doing that.) But, then again, it might be different for those who live in-state...

Here's hoping they throw each and every one out with the trash.

13. BALONEY. You can sign in for a candidate then leave the caucus...
not sure if signing in before 7;15 is okay, but HC's TV ads here tell people to show up at 6:45. If this is like our last Cong. election 2 years ago, the last votes won't be cast until 10 p.m.

You can sign in for a cand. then leave and they HAVE to count your caucus vote.

10. Without knowing more
I'd say they were trying to get names to fill out the delegation rosters, which IS legal but does not count towards calculating delegation strength or the threshold. Delegates & alternates must be named at the convention; taking the forms home & writing in friends' names is a no-no.

Tough Caucus Strategy
3:31 PM Sat, Mar 01, 2008
Christy Hoppe

Hillary Clinton and her campaign is pushing for precinct captains for Texas' 8,000 Democratic polling places. They need to train folks to lead the caucus sessions that will determine more than 60 delegates after the primary voting is over.
In training materials being handed out by the Clinton campaign, it is clear that they want to control those caucus sessions.
The materials say in part, "DO NOT allow the supporter of another candidate to serve in leadership roles."
It goes on to say, "If our supporters are outnumbered, ask the Temporary Chair if one of our supporters can serves as the Secretary, in the interest of fairness.
"The control of the sign-in sheets and the announcement of the delegates allotted to each candidate are the critical functions of the Chair and Secretary. This is why it is so important that Hillary supporters hold these positions."
