Clinton FAKING NEWS REPORTS on Radio...another Rovian move
http://weblogs.newsday.com/news/local/longisland/politics/blog/2008/03/latest_clinton_tactic_fake_new.html

Latest Clinton tactic: Fake news reports

The Clinton campaign's latest tactic in Ohio is, apparently, a radio ad that tries to make listeners think it's a news report until the very end.

(cut)

Here's the script:

"This is an election news update with a major news story reported by the AP. While Senator Obama has crisscrossed Ohio giving speeches attacking NAFTA, his top economic advisor was telling the Canadians that was all just political maneuvering. A newly released document from the Canadian government shows that Obama’s senior economic advisor met with the Canadian Consul General and made clear that Obama’s attack on NAFTA were just, quote, “political maneuvering,” not policy. Political maneuvering, not policy. In fact, the document shows that Obama’s advisor also assured the Canadians that these attacks against NAFTA would not continue. Obama would not want to be, quote, “fundamentally changing the agreement.” As Senator Obama was telling one story to Ohio, his campaign was telling a very different story to Canada. How will Ohioans decide whether they can believe Senator Obama’s words? We’ll find that out on election day. Paid for by Hillary Clinton for President."

1. Pretty obnoxious
If she wants to do an ad about the NAFTA flap, fine, but presenting it like a news story is pretty misleading.

13. Loyalty oaths are already "requested" to enter her townhalls.
Edited on Tue Mar-04-08 05:16 PM by Kittycat
Sound familiar?

Edited to change Required to Requested. There have been several reports here on DU where neutral members went to rallys/townhalls and were asked to fill out "security forms". Near where you sign is a part that reads that you are supporting her with your vote - or somethign along those lines. I tried to search for something else a bit ago, and we are already at defcon something - so I couldn't. If you can try - feel free. I believe the most recent report was early last week.

I love Hillary dearly. At this point, I would be thrilled at seeing Obama as the candidate and watch this country go through his election as president.

That still holds for me.

19. Will you defend ANY tactic if it's your candidate doing it?
Just a question.

I knew this country has long ago abandoned principles in favor of the "just win, baby, win" philosophy... but really? Fake news reports, even using the "AP" in the text? That's "working" for you, is it?

I have no poblem with the Clinton campaign criticising Obama over NAFTA. It's their right, there's a campaign on, it's fine.

but to dress it up as if it were a news report? Very, very tacky.

49. Newsday is an excellent paper. You have no clue
Edited on Wed Mar-05-08 06:47 AM by HamdenRice
You are confusing two different meanings of the word "tabloid." The technical definition is its size. It's not New York Times size, and that size was originally designed so it could easily be read on the subway.

The slang meaning of "tabloid" is a disreputable, gossipy paper.

Wiki is using the word only in the first sense ("Newsday is a daily tabloid-size newspaper that primarily serves Long Island and the New York City borough of Queens") -- Newsday is tabloid size, but is well known as an excellent paper.

What part of "tabloid-size" can't you wrap your mind around?

Incidentally, Newsday is also the most liberal daily of the major NYC dailies -- to the left of the NY Times and Daily News.

Obviously you have no clue whatsoever about what you are talking about.

Did you even read the wiki article you linked to:

"Editorial Style

"Despite having a tabloid format, Newsday is not known for being sensationalistic, as are other local daily tabloids, such as the New York Daily News and the New York Post.<5> <6> Newsday often uses its clout to influence local politics in Nassau and Suffolk Counties, and is considered to have a liberal political outlook.<7>"

If I want to keep my head up my ass and only hear positive things about Obama, it's my choice and I shouldn't be subjected to the truth about a candidate and neither should you. This is very "Rovian" of her, telling the truth about the guy with proof to back it up.... and it's very unpatriotic that you guys heard the truth about a guy you're considering hiring for the job of running the United States of America for the next four years.

She's the antiChrist!!!!!!

And if she can't win, then she'll sully Obama's name so much that he can't win the GE. Petty.
