not putting his hand over his heart during a horrid rendition of the national anthem.

2. This comes from a photo which was actually of the National Anthem.
Most people don't put their hands over their hearts for the National Anthem, but Obama was photographed standing near people who did that, while he wasn't.

9. There is one picture of Obama with Richardson and Hillary.
Richardson and Hillary have their hand on their heart. Obama's hands are to his side. It's not even clear what was being played. They were not reciting the pledge. It may have been the National Anthem or God Bless America.

It's garbage. Spread by RWers.

33. The Pledge of Allegiance was originally from a Christian socialist
and he is expressing the ideas of his cousin who wrote "Looking Backward" and "Equality".

His original Pledge read as follows: 'I pledge allegiance to my Flag and (to*) the Republic for which it stands, one nation, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.'

http://history.vineyard.net/pledge.htm
In 1923 and 1924 the National Flag Conference, under the 'leadership of the American Legion and the Daughters of the American Revolution, changed the Pledge's words, 'my Flag,' to 'the Flag of the United States of America.' Bellamy disliked this change, but his protest was ignored.

In 1954, Congress after a campaign by the Knights of Columbus, added the words, 'under God,' to the Pledge. The Pledge was now both a patriotic oath and a public prayer.

Bellamy's granddaughter said he also would have resented this second change. He had been pressured into leaving his church in 1891 because of his socialist sermons. In his retirement in Florida, he stopped attending church because he disliked the racial bigotry he found there.

22. It might be interesting to know why people really think this means
anything important.

Bush plays all the media games- wears all the costumes- pretends to be mr.Patriot himself- yet, have his actions shown this to be true?

Remember the picture of Laura and him standing on the flag while saluting?

Bush wore the air national guard uniform- He 'looked' the part- but he went AWOL- What matters? Looks? or Actions?

peace~

...the photo in question is from a performance of the National Anthem, not from a recitation of our homespun version of "Ein Volk, Ein Reich, Ein Fuhrer."

Anyway, isn't it about time we did away with that silly Pledge? It's bad enough making kids swear corny loyalty oaths every morning just so they can go to school, but when adults have to regularly place their hands on their hearts and dedicate themselves to the national flag, lest they be regarded as Unamerican, well, it all seems a little too close to fascism for my liking. Especially when just about every word in it has been turned into a lie.

43. That's because.....
he doesn't pee that often. He gets a very rare French wine which is made from a special grape which helps him not to have to go so often.
It's a PeeNo More and it is very expensive.

I heard it on the grapevine...just sayin!

27. The picture shows
Clinton and Huckibee (sp) with hands over heart while they are playing the National Anthem, while Obama has his hands in front of him. It is not required to cover your heart at the National Anthem. It is a very mis-leading photo if you don't know they are playing the National Anthem.

44. Exactly. It IS a lie.
And those who believe it won't be voting for Obama anyway. Some of the idiots out there voting are dumb as rocks; witness the 19% who still think Bush is doing a good job. There will always be a certain percentage who you will NEVER convince otherwise. And trying to smear Obama for his lack of patriotism for not reflexively doing robotic symbolic things such as the hand over the heart or not wearing a flag pin is total bullshit. I agree with you there. True patriots love this country enough that they will speak out when they see things wrong with this country and try to work to correct the injustices. My above post was meant to be sarcastic. Sorry you missed it.

BTW, I also think Obama should get a flag tattooed on his ass so he can tell all those idiots to kiss his ass; they can show their patriotism and honor the flag at the same time!!!

And this is complete horseshit, and I say that as a Clinton supporter.

But it's out there, it's been making the email rounds for months now. And even though it's complete crap and easily debunked, it's already working. Expect more of these types of attacks if he gets the nomination.
