Why is there so much animosity between Obama and Hillary supporters?
Why the hell is there so much antagonism on both sides here? Does anyone realize how freaking similar these two candidates are? There is, as far as I can tell, one difference in their platforms: the health care mandate. Whoopi! Why don't we shoot each other over it?

Both will give us excellent health care reform, lowering costs and getting near-universal coverage. Both will end the war in Iraq. Both will repeal the Bush tax cuts for the ultra-wealthy and get us back to fiscal discipline. Both will invest a tremendous amount in a new energy economy that will make us cleaner, safer and more prosperous. These are both great candidates, and we should all support whomever is the nominee in November.

And, we can stop fighting on the way. I have my candidate, but I will work just as hard for the other one should that person be the nominee in November.

I don't know why people are fighting like this. I plan to work my ass off to get our nominee elected. But I am also in no rush to have one of them drop out like some are calling for. We have plenty of time. I think we should let all of our fellow Americans get a chance to vote.

Edited on Tue Mar-04-08 09:21 PM by bowens43
the difference is that Obama can deliver Hillary can not. Obama is credible , Hillary is not. Obama can beat McCain, Hillary can not. Obama may be able to heal some of the wounds our nation has suffered over the last 28 years due to constant partisan bickering, Hillary will make these wounds deeper.

Obama is the only chance we have. If hillary is the nominee, McCain will be president and we will likely lose the Senate in the process. We will see at least one more conservative on the supreme court.

Obama is in this for the right reasons, Hillary is in this because she feels that she is entitled to the presidency and there is nothing that she won't do to gain the power she feels she rightfully deserves.

It's about character and Hillary has none.

unrealistic expectations of Obama supporters. This is one reason why Hillary supporters are overwhelmingly
older folks. We remember the past. Some of us think that Obama, while well meaning, looks too much like
Jimmy Carter. Others of us fear the insubstantial "no-clear-plan", "let's have hope" thing. I have heard
many say that if Hillary is not the nominee, they will turn to McCain. My husband is one such democrat. He
said that he'll never vote for Obama.

Obama should not ever think that if Hillary drops out he'll get the support of the Hillary people. That's
very chancy. . .

34. The animosity you see here is only espoused by a small, but vocal group.
These people have become convinced that their candidate is right and the other is wrong, etc, etc.

Most reasonable people are happy to have both of these candidates and will support either one. They may prefer one, but they are not zealots.

The zealots have their reasons and most of them are based on fear of the other.

They are best ignored. They do their candidates no favors.

And they are weinie-heads.

37. Why
In my opinion, it is because, as soon as the Clinton supporters realized she wasn't going to be handed the nomination on a silver platter, that someone had the temerity to question her succession, they turned extremely nasty. The fact that Obama ran a brilliant campaign and she ran an inept one, only made them all the meaner. Some people are not capable of accepting that they made the wrong choice, and will hang-on to their wrong-headedness to the bitter end.

40. We're not shooting each other over differences in their platforms.
We're shooting each other over differences in their conduct and differences in their percieved electability and differences in various less tangible factors.

Also, some of the bitterness comes from the fact that it's an extremely long and drawn out primary, and longer it goes on for, the more people's nerves are going to be frayed. Hopefully it will be over soon, but it may go all the way to the convetion, in which case, you ain't seen nothin' yet.
