A toast to Mike Huckabee...
...who has kept the GOP coalition divided and deranged, who stayed in long enough to doom Romney and Rudy, and who is so entertainingly batshit crazy that he thinks there were dinosaurs on Noah's Ark.

It's rare to get a chance to watch something like the Huck Phenomenon on national TV for so long.

:toast:

Did I ever personally thank you for leading me to DU back in '02 with your post in Democrats.com - I forgot what you wrote in there that got me in DU...

If not - I owe ya a beer when you come around in Denver, which I hope you will this August - I'll even take you to Wynkoop (owned by our Denver mayor)

Then again, W will endorse him tomorrow. W's radioactive - and GOP candidates have been distancing themselves from him.

Here's us DU activists tying W around their necks like an anchor.

You may disagree with him on virtually everything (I do). You may think he's batshit crazy and make fun of him all you want. But his concession speech shows a lot of class. I disagree with him on virtually everything, but I respect him.

So here's a legitimate toast to Mike Huckabee.

He was the arkansas governor where I'm from and much of my family live. He wasn't all that. And, he did things to make enemies in arkansas.
Besides the fact he wanted to change the constitution to be in line with God, and, Homosexuals were sinning. This is what I think of him.....:puke:

27. A Toast to Compassionate Conservatism
Sure, the Huckster let his freak flag fly every now and then, but he generally changed the tenor of what it means to be a fundamentalist nutball. Rather than focusing solely on abortion, Huckabee brought important issues of poverty and health care to well within the bounds of the fundamentalist brain. We should overlook that. It will probably help us in November in ways that run much deeper than getting rid of Mitt Romney.

He never once wavered from being exactly who he is. Totally off the wall, as you put it- "entertainingly batshit crazy" and completely at home in his skin- and in his belief system. Best of all, he challenged McCain- and the rest of the candidates in ways they had not expected- I would have liked to have had him around a while longer.

Guess this means he won't be appearing on Stephen Colbert's show any more either...

Although, maybe Stephen can offer Huckabee a job as a roving (and raving) special reporter. Seeing the Republican campaign through his eyes would actually be pretty funny...

Shalom, Huckabee! It was fun when it lasted.

80. I think Huckabee did McCain a huge service during this primary
He gave evangelicals a way to vent their frustration on McCain in a way that did not hurt him in the primary.

He completely knee-capped Mitt Romney who seemed to be an ideal candidate for them in a lot of ways.

He never once attacked McCain and instead consistently propped him up.

And he is going to give him full cover for Evangelical voters durin the GE.
