5. Another thing to remember
McCain was pretty much the nominee no matter what. A lot of conservatives knew that, so purposefully didn't vote. In addition, a lot of Democratic voters voted for a "first" because they could. Those votes will not necessarily carry over into the general election if their "first" candidate is not nominated.

9. Yes. That's been the biggest radio topic here today.
Lots of Repubs discussing how many Repubs voted in the Dem primary to swing it either to Clinton or Obama, based on who the Repubs thought would help McCain.

Plus, most Republican primary decisions in local and state elections are relatively certain already. Much more choices in the Dem debates, thus higher turnout. IIRC, the Dems had heavier turnout in 04 primaries, too.

7. So how many of those "Dems" crossed over?
and just how many do you think will come November.

LOL. But that probably won't keep either one of those candidates from pandering to them....

It would be sad, actually- if it wasn't so pathetic.

8. deep breath ... primary voting has fackall to do with general election voting!
Edited on Tue Mar-04-08 10:07 PM by unblock
democrats are turning out in huge numbers because it's a close race and people feel their vote might actually matter.

republicans are going to bed early because john w mccain was a foregone conclusion so why bother trudging down to the voting booth?

this does NOT necessarily translate to general election voting.

in particular, democratic texans might feel their vote matters today but won't bother voting in november because texas is NOT going to vote go democratic this year.

that said, conditions still like ripe for a blue landslide later this year!!
