I am devestated
Today my lifelong liberal Democrat sister told me that if Obama wins the nomination, she is voting for McCain.

DU, this is heartbreaking news to me. What is even worse is that she didn't even have a valid reason, she just said "I don't like him".

Help me with arguments to bring her back from the dark side.

to make me realize how stupid that was.

Also, tell her that this Pres may choose 3 SCOTUS members. Is her anger really worth that?

7. If she's a liberal
Ask her how she can possibly vote for McCain knowing that a) he will continue the war in Iraq and b) Supreme Court. Tell her if she wants to vote for him, fine, but if he is able to appoint two or more Supreme Court justices, she will have screwed the trajectory of the country for the simplistic, idiotic reason of "I don't like Obama". If she can live with that, fine.

In a democracy, the voters get the type of government that they deserve. If the idiots out there are going to let ego and pettiness rather than their own self-interest decide their vote, then people like her richly deserve a John McCain administration, and all the shit that will flow downhill from it.

Voted for Bush in 2000, and regrets it to this day. Whenever I bring it up to him he gets practically sick over it. Thankfully his vote didn't kill us since we were in Pennsylvania, but still...He hasn't voted GOP since.

But it is rather strange that a liberal would vote for a republikkan

Unless all she watches is matthews and insanity in which case she'd have been told that mclame

Matthews: Maverick. With wide appeal for many Democrats. A real hero.

Insanity: A liberal parading as a conservative

Sorry.

I know how you feel. My mother says the exact same thing about Hillary Clinton. THe fact that she would vote for a republican drives a stake into my heart.

TOday I convinced someone who said - ah, what difference does it make who gets into office by saying -

do you want to keep abortion legal?

Do you want to make it so the government can't spy on you?

Do you want to make it so Americans can't be taken off the street and sent to a cell indefinitely without seeing a lawyer?

She said yes.

I said, then you know who to vote for.

21. I don't like Obama either...
but I WILL vote for him if he's the nominee. Tell your sister if she doesn't feel comfortable voting for Obama, she could try thinking about it as a vote AGAINST McCain. If she's a lifelong liberal, she should be able to see many, many reasons why McCain should get nowhere near the White HOuse.

Besides, there's the little matter of SCOTUS appointees, and working with a Democratic Congress.

28. Ask her if she wants..
To see abortions--ALL abortions--made illegal.

Ask her if she wants us to be in Iraq for 100 years.

Ask her if she wants to see global warming raptly ignored.

Ask her if she wants to see SCHIP abandonned, or Medicaid cut to the bone, or Social Security privatized.

Ask her if she wants to elect a president, or someone who looks like an old Soviet Politburo member.

But please, wait until she cools down before you ask her all that!:eyes:

33. Remind her about 'bomb, bomb, bomb Iran'
If she's a liberal, she probably doesn't want this war, and it might do some good to remind her that McCain plans to stay in Iraq indefinitely, and he will likely start other wars, since he seems to be so glib about bombing Iran. Remind her the fucker is crazy. I'm not impressed with fine speeches, either, but Christ, Obama is better than McCain by far.
