Tonight may very well be a delegate "wash" per MSNBC
Edited on Wed Mar-05-08 01:02 AM by Samantha
Hillary up by 3 delegates for RI; Barack up by 3 delegates for VT. Hillary probably up 5 to 9 delegates for OH; Barack might lose TX popular vote by 2 or 3, results of caucus will not be known for a few days -- perhaps one week -- Barack might offset popular TX vote win with total delegates including those of caucuses.

In order words, tonight may very well be a delegate wash when everything is said and done for the four states in contention tonight.

These are the thoughts just expressed by Chuck Todd at MSNBC. I think he's got it just about right.

1. Yes, she had to win by 60%
In order to claim a big win. People have been saying that all night. It's just the truth, not an attack.

2. Why is there a great depression among so many Obama
supporters? It does not appear he lost anything. She threw the kitchen sink at him, fought a truly dirty campaign, and got no mileage from it.

4. after winning 11 in a row
today was a downer. I don't think it will change the race though.

6. Did you see Russert's review of the "leaked" Obama delegate
count, ostensibly faxed out in error a few weeks ago? The bootlegged prediction sheet predicted all the Potomac Primary wins accurately, except it predicted a Maine loss. The margins for tonights elections were almost dead on. The sheet further predicts wins in Wyoming and Mississippi will offset any delegate advantage, if any, Clinton obtains tonight. Next comes Pennsylvania will a predicted loss of a few points. Obama remains ahead in elected delegates going into the convention.

The predictions are eerily accurate, Russert said.

8. Who's depressed? She blew a huge lead in Ohio and Texas.
I'm happy... did my part.... worked my ass off... and Obama carried Cincinnati, 61 to 38.

I don't know what else I could have done. And we did it without going negative, too. :-)

Great point, Samantha!

9. you answered your own question.

clinton was nasty and it may have worked. she managed to eek out wins in at least 2 states. what if she sees that as incentive to keep on doing it that way? the "technique", such as it is, has a very repugnican, scorched-earth aroma. unless the clinton camp engages in other hinky shit with delegate counts then obama is going to be the nominee. the repugs would just be tickled pink for hillary to carry their water for them and render obama damaged goods before they even get to the general.

10. I don't think this pattern Hillary has developed of scorching the
political earth will remain unanswered for the duration. Barack will not sink to her level, but he has many supporters who are truly upset at her tactics. To say she has won 2 states a-la-Rove techniques is not very flattering. Many in the Democratic base do not want this person being their spokesperson for the duration because she's just too Bush-like. And certainly Bush* does not speak for mainstream America.

The decision is clear. If we are not to have four more years of Bush*-like tactics in the Oval Office, some in the Democratic base will have to fight fire with fire. And more power to them. Hillary has asked for it. By her own words, she can take the heat in the kitchen, so turn it up.

Our lives are meant to be inspirational than beaten down by anger and hate. Barack for me offers that ray of sunshine that the world has missed for 7 years.

13. Last night I figured out why I am SO TIRED of this race
It's starting to remind me of Election 2000 and the agony of that struggle. We have 3 more months of this, and we must figure out a way to emotionally survive. We need to help each other.

One point I would like to make is that Texas is looking like a split decision, factoring in the caucus results. We won't know the final count for some time but I am not sure one can say Hillary "won" Texas, which was billed as a two-step process.

The other positive thing to take away is that Barack narrowed her margin of victory in Ohio to simply 10. That's pretty impressive.

3. That's why tonight is a failure for Hillary.
And after Wyoming and MS, Hillary will need 63% margins.

11. There are 12 remaining competitions
MSNBC (Chuck Todd) predicts Obama will win 6, Hillary 4 and the other 2 are Guam and PR. One each.

Two things that might break the deadlock: redo's in Florida and Michigan or the superdelegates.

Pick your position now.
