102. Actually, HRC gained one delegate over Obama in Texas, and fifteen in Ohio. +16 net gain
Edited on Wed Mar-05-08 09:06 AM by awaysidetraveler
Hillary gained 1 delegate over Obama in Texas.

Texas Primary: Clinton 64/ Obama 60
Texas Caucus: Obama 35/ Clinton 32

Hillary gained 15 delegates over Obama in Ohio

Ohio Primary Clinton 77/ Obama 62/ Edwards 2

The Vermont and RI Primaries canceled one another out.

Vermont Primary: Obama 9/ Clinton 6

Rhode Island Primary: Clinton 12/Obama 9

HRC's base is rallying around this Pyrric victory.

Congratulations on her win, which shows that indeed she is a formidable political figure,
but please realize that this is not the victory Hillary needed to win the election.

125. I agree
Congratulations to Hillary. I mean that sincerely. She worked hard to squeak out that win in Texas. But a win it was.

I hope, though, that she no longer resorts to fear-mongering in her ads. Smacks too much of Bushco, imo.

127. Fear-mongering?
Fear-mongering has been going on in American campaign "advertising" since the 1800's.
"Attack ads" are nothing new.
Anything to get the population riled up enough to get out and vote.

153. I have
I have read Hilary's policies and I will never vote for her... ever. Obama's policy positions align with my own and frankly, we need new blood infused into our system at the presidential level. Let McCain and Clinton go the way of ... well, whatever...

Also, if we look at experience as a criteria, then we all should vote for McCain. He has more than Hilary... but, of course, people will say.. no! But, the logic of the argument against Obama is incredibly flawed on this point.

181. Obviously don't know much about Obama
Did you know that when he ran for the US Senate he stated that there was not much difference at all between his and Bush's stance on Iraq? Did you know that he's on record as stating there was nothing that could be done to help the mortgage crisis and that putting a halt to foreclosures for 90 days wasn't something that was even feasible, then Bush makes that exact proposal.

Plus, their policies are very, very similar, they are both middle of the road Democrats. The only difference is she's stating she wants to renegotiate NAFTA, he's saying the same, then the staff is telling Canada, don't pay any attention to what's being said, it's just campaign talk. We know Clinton will fight for change and make America better. We have no clue as to what he'd do since he doesn't deal with specifics. He thinks the Repugs will be enlightened and work together nicely for the benefit of the country, just because he's so wonderful. Yeah, right. I don't trust my future to him as I like action and someone who will take care of the details, not another "delegator", ala Bush and Reagan.

The Path to the Presidency
3/5/2008 11:20:40 AM

With last night’s victories in Ohio and Texas, one thing is clear: the momentum has swung back to Hillary Clinton. Voters in both states agreed that Hillary Clinton would be the best Commander-in-Chief and the strongest steward of our economy. In fact, according to last night’s polls, those who decided who to vote for in the last three days overwhelmingly favored Hillary . It’s time for a second look.

………
……………
…………
5. Several of Hillary's base constituencies (women, Hispanic, labor, elderly and under $75,000) are key to a Democratic victory in November. Senator Obama has not brought these voters out in the same numbers.
……………….
* These political and demographic trends project positively into the general election and strongly favor Hillary.

6. The Red States: The central strategic argument of the Obama campaign is flawed. Senator Obama argues that his success in Democratic primary contests held in long-time Red States means he will carry those states in a general election. In reality, there are no “Red States” in a Democratic primary – there are only Democratic voters who live in Republican states and represent a small percentage of the general election population.
* Of the eleven core Republican states that have gone to the polls, Sen. Obama has won ten: Utah, Idaho, Nebraska, North Dakota, Alabama, Alaska, Kansas, South Carolina, Georgia, and Louisiana. John Kerry lost each of these states by fifteen points or more.
* The last time a Democratic nominee won Utah, Idaho, Nebraska, North Dakota, Kansas, and Alaska in the general election was 1964.
* Even if Obama is “transcendent,” as his campaign has argued, the historic electoral trends and the current political environment suggest that translating those primary wins into November success will be close to impossible.
* In short: Hillary is better positioned to carry the battle ground states that Democrats need to win in November and Obama’s victories in deep red states do not .

7. Hillary is the only Democrat with the strength, leadership, and experience to defeat John McCain. Senator Clinton is seen as the best prepared to be Commander-in-Chief.
* Nationally, 57% say Hillary Clinton is best prepared to be president, 39% Obama
* Hillary Clinton is seen as best able to take on the Republicans on their own turf – national security and terrorism. She is seen as a strong and decisive leader (a seven point advantage over Obama nationally).
* Hillary is seen as the one who can get the job done – leading Obama nationally by 13 points .
* Hillary is seen as the candidate to solve the country’s problems, leading Obama by 10 points .

8. John McCain will diminish any perceived advantage Obama has with independents. As has been widely discussed, one of John McCain’s key constituents is independents. And against McCain, Obama will be framed by the Republicans as too liberal (he was ranked by the National Journal as the most liberal Senator); untested on national security; and vulnerable on issues that would make him unelectable in November. These issues may be surmountable in a Democratic primary but will be an Achilles heel with independents in a general election.

9. The McCain Roadmap: McCain has already foreshadowed his campaign’s construct against Obama: His vulnerability is experience and judgment on national security.
* McCain: Obama’s ‘meet, talk and hope approach’ is ‘dangerously naïve in international diplomacy.’ “Meet, talk, and hope may be a sound approach in a state legislature, but it is dangerously naive in international diplomacy where the oppressed look to America for hope and adversaries wish us ill.”
* McCain: Obama is an ‘inexperienced candidate who once suggested bombing our ally, Pakistan, and suggested sitting down without preconditions or clear purpose with enemies who support terrorists.’ “Each event poses a challenge and an opportunity. Will the next president have the experience -- the judgment, experience informs and the strength of purpose to respond to each of these developments in ways that strengthen our security and advance the global progress of our ideals? Or will we risk the confused leadership of an inexperienced candidate who once suggested bombing our ally, Pakistan, and suggested sitting down without preconditions or clear purpose with enemies who support terrorists and are intent on destabilizing the world by acquiring nuclear weapons? I think you know the answer to that question.”

10. Steward of the economy. Hillary Clinton leads both John McCain and Barack Obama on the economy and health care. In the latest LA Times/Bloomberg poll (1/22), Hillary leads McCain 52/28 on health care and 43/34 on the economy.
* Hillary leads Barack Obama on health care by 21 points nationally .

11. Florida……..
12. Michigan…….
13. ……….

Previewing Today : Hillary appeared on NBC’s “Today Show,” ABC’s “Good Morning America,” CBS’s Early Show, CNN’s “American Morning,” FOX’s “Fox and Friends,” and MSNBC’s “Morning Joe.” … Chelsea holds an “Our Voice, Our Future” event at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia.

...but if I didn't know better, I'd say we're setting up McCain to win by default.

Hillary doesn't have the support of the base. She has support of a lot of dried up, Baby Boomer old folks attempting to re-live their youth in Rust Belt states. That won't be enough to win the general election.

Her negatives are stratospheric. They're REALLY bad. Her shotgun marriage candidacy will drive Democrats to stay home in November AND Republican white males to the polls in massive numbers...

...and put a 72 year old man in the Oval Office.

I think the party is screwed.

There is one candidate who encourages hope and participation, that candidate has
had over 1,000,000 individuals contribute to his race. He appeals to Republicans
and Democrats and Independants. He excites and ennobles people.
He has class and carries himself with dignity. There is a candidate who divides and
repels many, who's husband lowered the bar of the office of POTUS. There is a
woman who has more baggage then Imelda Marcos had shoes. That is the threat

The caucus results changed, according to CNN: 38 - 30 favoring Obama.

That puts Obama up 4 delegates, making a net win in Ohio of only 12 for Hillary Clinton.

She still deserves the credit for Ohio, but apparently not for Texas.

344. It's an easily referenced fact that Obama won Texas: try AP.
It's called a "two-step" and it means just that. It doesn't mean that there's two Texan elections: there's one Texan election with two parts.

Obama won the caucus with more delegates than Clinton won in the primary, therefore Obama won Texas.

Of course, you have to put both the caucus and the primary together to decide the Texas election as a whole.

38 Obama and 30 Clinton delegates are what's currently showing in the caucus, meaning that Obama won Texas.

Where did you pull these numbers from. The Texas democratic Website shows the breakdown of caucus results and not one of them has more than 50% reporting yet.

Out of all 31 senate districts there are only 6 that Clinton even leads in. There is no way to know what the Texas breakdown will be until all results are in. Even then they are not official until March, there is still two steps in the caucus process. I think it is premature to start making prdictions before all the precincts are in.

That is in the caucus. So that would change the extrapolation considerably.

38 Obama to 30 Clinton. Wow... Obama won Texas.

There is a detailed breakdown at the TDP site. http://precinctconventionresults.txdemocrats.org/election08district

After participating last night and talking with friends and family in different parts of the state today, I still don't know what to expect. It sounds like South Texas conventions were chaotic, and none showed in some North Texas conventions. To top it all off these delegates are not binding until June so in theory anyone can change their vote to whoever they choose.

If one of them would really start going for the grass roots and give a middle finger to their corporate sponsors, perhaps Edwards would endorse them, and many Edwards supporters would jump on board too.

185. Voting convictions
People continue to vote for Edwards because they sincerely think he's by far the best candidate, and is certainly the only truly PROGRESSIVE candidate who had a ghost of a chance. I personally didn't vote for him, too much the pragmatist, but I have friends that voted for him after he pulled out.

321. Hillary won because droves of Texas Republicans crossed over and voted for her
I know because, as an election judge, I sat and watched it all day. They didnt want their card stamped since, as they said they were just voting on our side for one day. And they didnt want any information about attending the caucus. In our precinct caucus Obama got 64.5% of the vote. And in early voting every day except one, the Democratic primary had more voters than the Republican Primary. In a city that normally votes about 75% Republican.

How many Republicans did you see admitting that they would cross over because they believed in Hillary? A few Republicans have been swayed to support Obama. But Republicans who voted for Hillary did it for strategic reasons. They will not be voting for her in November. They are hoping this will keep Obama off the ballot.

156. Texas and Hillary
yes, but lets look at the Texas map (i live in this god forsaken state). Almost all of Hilary's victories came from rural counties while Obama won in the cities. Well, in a Republican vs Democratic election, the republicans will slay in the rural areas. Sorry folks, she most certainly won't win texas in the presidential election. So, the logic about "winning those big states" is ultimately flawed. Now, Obama has a lot of Republicans on his side here and may be able to sway many Republicans who are moderates to his side here in this big a$$ state. Anyway, I don't believe the hype. The map is light blue at CNN, but where it's light blue matters....

There's no way on God's green earth that Obama will win the GE in Texas. All of my mom's family, and she's one of 12 children, is from there so we've visited often and long. Every single one of them voted for Bush and all are now for McCain. Their only complaint about McCain is that he's too liberal. They would never vote for either Hillary or Obama. Nebraska, Montana, Utah, and all the red states he's won will also not vote for him in the GE. Hillary's winning where the Democrats have a chance of winning in the GE, CT being the only exception that I can think of at the moment.

193. Like BushCo isn't going to bring TX home for the GOP, no matter WHO the Dem is?
Your argument is disingenuous. Obama would be handed his ass, and his cowboy hat, in TX at the general, absent a huge shift in perception and despite the low national numbers of McCain's newest endorser, Bush. TX is still GOP, and probably will stay that way for the next election cycle. To try to suggest that Obama would win TX in the general when he can't win the primary is a stretch.

And if Obama "has so many Republicans on his side" in Texas, why didn't they come out for him? TX does allow GOP crossovers to the Democratic Party in the primary. Some GOP buddies old BO has, there!

I don't believe the hype you're shopping--Obama wouldn't win TX in a general election under ANY scenario. That's going to McCain. The DeLay-manufactured machine down that way grinds on.

The larger point, though, still stands. Clinton can win big "primary" states, industrial "primary" states, AND states that go blue in general elections. Obama wins caucus states and states that go red in the general.

Do you really think, after all that has happened since 1992, that republicans will vote for her in an open election?

She "won" Texas (actually got less delegates than Obama, but whatever....) because McCain was a sure winner and republicans could vote in the Democratic primary, so they were mobilized to put her over the top - they feel Obama would be a more formidable opponent for McCain.

They're awfully organized, too. Funny, that: http://www.republicansforobama.org/?q=node/358

"But whatever..." indeed. Obama is the WEAKER candidate--the "National Security" mop that McCain will wipe the floor with. He's about as formidable as a paper doll. We've seen, just this week, how he folds under pressure, how he cries and pouts and gets "testy" when anything other than praise is heaped on him....and how he is unable to take a punch.

....that list shows 26 closed primaries/caucuses. There are 50 states. A little math (not "English games" this time!) reveales that that is more than half, ergo your fact that "most" are open is false.

No English games, no math manipulation, nothing but the fact that MOST are closed. Now, you've tried to redefine "closed" and "open" here a few times (just WHO was playing "English games"?) but that doesn't change the fact that more than half the states have closed primaries/caucuses.

343. And how many caucus states tell you that you can be a Democrat for a day? Hmmmm?
Those caucus states are listed as "closed" but they aren't. Republicans can show up at the caucus site and declare themselves Democrats with a pen and a scribble.

Here's the list: http://www.fairvote.org/?page=1801

Alaska, Iowa, Nevada (home of that famous "Be A Democrat for a DAY!! flyer), North Dakota, Illinois, Kansas, Utah, and Ohio are putatively "closed" states that are Closed In Name Only. Republicans CAN, and do, cross over and vote in these states by changing their registration at the polls (in the case of North Dakota, they don't even HAVE party registration).

And unlike the GOP, we permit independents to vote in many putatively "closed" contests--which, even if you call it "closed" doesn't make it "closed" like the GOP closes many of theirs. And of course, not all independents lean our way--how shocking is that? :sarcasm: California is a good example of this--it's called "closed" but Democrats allow independents to participate. The GOP actually "closes" their primary in that state, and does not allow anyone who isn't a Republican to play.

So, if you want to get shirty and snarky and play the "English Language" game, one would, should and could put forth the "English Language" assertion that in order for a Democratic Primary to be well and truly "CLOSED" then only "DEMOCRATS" should be able to vote in it. Unless we're going to change our party's name to the "Democratic-Independent-Unaffiliated" party (which might as well be called the Lieberman Party for short), that is.

Any contest that allows "unaffiliateds" or "independents" to participate isn't really closed.

But hey, you enjoy the view from that high horse of yours--hang on real tight so you don't fall off, now!

345. I don't know - you were talking about primaries (go back to your post to bone up, please)....
You can redefine the primaries/caucuses to fit your premise, that's ok.....but it still doesn't change reality or make what you said correct. "MOST" primaries are NOT "open".

You gave it a shot, too bad you Clintoned (i.e., lost) the arguement.

346. The point still stands, though. So you can do what you will with that "bone" of yours.
Primaries that call themselves "closed" yet allow independents (who are, by that "English Language" definition you prize so much, not "Democrats") to vote in them are not truly closed primaries. They're primaries that are OPEN to Democrats, Independents AND unaffiliated voters.

You gave it a shot,too-probably a few too many judging by your, er, unreasonable glee over what you seem to think is a winning "argument."

325. Wrong! Here, lets let Paul Burka of Texas Monthly explain it
to you.

http://www.texasmonthly.com/blogs/burkablog/index.php

Did Republicans Hijack the Democratic Primary?

posted by Paul Burka at 7:56 AM

The answer is, yes, they did. Rush Limbaugh did the hijacking. He told Republicans to vote for Clinton in the Democratic primary. Her margin in Texas was 98,000 votes. When all the numbers get crunched, you'll find that many Clinton voters have a Republican primary voting history.

Look at how low the Republican primary vote was in some races. In Ellen Cohen's district, the two Republicans polled just 2,715 early votes in 53 precincts. Where were all the voters? In the Democratic primary, voting for Clinton.

339. More Republicans who voted in that primary voted for Obama. Your point?
It's "OK" for the GOP to hijack it for Obama, but not for Clinton? http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/23394070/

But a significant proportion say they are temporarily backing Obama for strategic reasons. They plan to vote Republican in November, but for now, their goal is to try to make sure Clinton cannot win.

Or is it the pathetic, blind-acolyte argument that "Republicans who vote for Obama are siiiiiinceeeeeeeeeeere!!!!!!" Whilst of course, it's only NEFARIOUS Republicans who vote for Clinton!

At the end of the day, all those nefarious "Clinton voting Republicans" did was almost -- not quite, but almost -- neutralize the nefarious "Obama voting Republicans."

Actually, though, your prized source, there, Mister Burka, makes a few salient points, even though he failed to note that more Republicans turned out for Barack, overall: http://www.texasmonthly.com/blogs/burkablog/2008/03/hillary-rodham-craddick.php#links

So what happened? The national media attribute her success to Roy Spence's 3 a.m. ad, and I'm all for one of our own getting the credit, but I think Clinton's success had less to do with her than with Obama. His performance level has dropped. He wasn't on his game in the Texas debate, and he was downright bad in the Ohio debate. Maybe he has been sick--a correspondent pointed out that he was blowing his nose at the rally the night before the Texas debate--but I think he's got a different kind of bug. He has begun to read his own press clippings and, worse, believe them. When I watched the Ohio debate, I could practically see him grow a glass jaw. Clinton hit him again and again, and he didn't fight back. He let her bully him in the discussion over Louis Farrakahn's endorsement. He said he renounced it and Clinton said he should reject it and he argued a while and finally said, "OK, I renounce it and reject it." Weak!

I suppose we should thank Old Rush for encouraging his Numbnuts Listeners to serve as a "neutralizer" of sorts--those "chaos" voters might have played a small role in countering the "Vote Obama So McCain Has an EASY Opponent" crowd.

I really don't think Republicans should be voting in Democratic primaries at all, because the potential for mischief-making is too great, and they are NOT members of the Democratic Party...but I am not the DNC chair. Had they not voted at all, the result would be pretty much the same, though Clinton would have won by a slightly GREATER margin.

The GOP isn't stupid--they don't let Democrats choose their candidate for them, in most contests.

57. You're right; popular vote is important.
But just saying, Hillary won't gain much ground, if any.

An interesting thing is that Clinton seems to be winning enough of the little rural area votes to take Texas over Obama's big cities. This reminds me a little of Obama's situation with the United States of America: winning more states and more popular vote, but getting belittled for not winning as many big states.

103. No, she didn't. I was telling a co-worker this morning that the biggest
reason I support Hillary over Obama is that I know she is a fighter and not a quitter. That's what we are going to need for this GE. I think that Obama would also be a good candidate and a good President and I will gladly vote for him if he is the eventual nominee, but I'm not convinced that he will be able to handle the RW hate machine once it gets started. Hillary has already proven herself capable of doing so. It's really going to get nasty as the Republicans try desperately to hold onto the White House.

haha.... she won't bring any change. The Republicans will work hard to stop her from passing anything, that is if she can get past McCain, which I don't believe she can for a second. Anyway, when house and senate seats come up, the Democrats will lose the majority and the Republicans will do everything in their power to stall her so called move for "change". Why do people think she can do any of these things with her reputation and history... makes no sense at all....

194. Why would you say that?
Bill brought about great change in America's direction and fortunes. Hillary is more liberal than Bill, but every bit the hands on administrator that he was. I know the right wing will fight like hell, but I feel confident she'll definitely makes changes. The Repugs will fight Obama every bit as hard, but I don't feel at all confident that he would fight back effectively. I think he is the one that could be destroyed by the right wing slim machine and even if he survives, which is highly doubtful, and wins the GE, that his over-confidence and thinking that everyone should just annoint him would lead to governmental paralysis and no change at all. The right wing will not play nice, it's not just that they hate Hillary, but they really hate America too. They only want the fortunes of the top 1% to grow, they don't give a damn about the constitution.

183. Yes. As Ohio Goes...
...so goes the country. That's what worries me.

I lived there thirty years, and everyone I know who still lives there watches Fox News. The guy I work with is gay, and his parents who still live in Cincinnati watch Fox News. His brother watches Fox News. His sister is apolitical and probably won't vote at all.

I could possibly have seen Ohio going for Obama. I can't see it going for Hillary. At all. Ever.

188. Actually I don't take it personally at all.
I just wondered why someone would even want that as a nick. I can understand a private joke, but it is provocative at the very least.

If you need a simple understanding of why, imagine the immediate judgements that would come to mind if a male used "He who should be obeyed". Given the often sensitive nature of gender discussions on this board, it seems instigatory.

Back to the taking things personally. That describes this board in a nutshell...outrage/offended R US.

You all are the ones incapable of dealing with the truth about the Clintons protection of the Bushes. You shrug and PRETEND that protection had no consequences for this country or for our party.

You all NEED to lie to yourselves every day in order to support the Clintons who would never lift a finger for any one of you or our party if it meant hurting BushInc.

199. Who do YOU consider the "true democratic base?"
Because I obviously need to be reminded where I stand. Frankly, I welcome those republicans and independents who cast an honest vote in the democratic primary, regardless of who they voted for; but I was actually referring to the republicans who specifically voted for Clinton on Rush Limbaugh's marching orders. Sorry I didn't make that clear. I'm hoping it is still true that those that did in Texas now can't vote Republican in the main election; but wouldn't it be nice to know what percentage of those votes were responsible for her winning "landslide" in Texas. :sarcasm:

I'm also not sure how Maribele figures "more Americans voted for her." Seems to me that most of them voted for someone else, i.e., Obama, Edwards, McCain, Huckabee....

302. So which is it, really: If Repubs did vote for HC in TX by virtue of RL's marching orders (teehee),
...you don't welcome those crossovers? (highly doubtful, in my view) But if Repubs voted for O bigtime in the open primaries (well-known observation out there), you welcome them?

Do clear up my confusion: are you not contradicting yourself here? Only some Repubs are welcome - those voting for BO? All are welcome? Or none?

Oh, stop making sense - not.

Are there still DUers who call on her to step down for the "good of the party?"

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_topic&forum=132&topic_id=4862130

And the fact that Texas may give more delegates to Obama will just highlight the crazy system, it may just convince more Democrats in upcoming primaries on how unfairly she has been treated by the African American wing of the party.

If, indeed, African Americans voters in Texas got more delegates than Latinos, and if members of the African American Congressional Caucus will continue to pressure others to vote for "the brother," as they have been reported to do, this will back fire.

167. Hillary didn't win.
Obama has INCREASED his lead in pledged delegates since before last night's election.

All hail the spin machine...Hillary is just handing this election to McCain. The only way she can win the nomination is through smoke-filled-room political chicanery at a brokered convention, and that effectively means alienating all the young people who joined the process just to support Obama and disillusioning them for Lord knows how long, and driving moderates and independents over to McCain.

People seem to be forgetting how polarizing she is...once again, the Democrats are losing a general election which is theirs to lose, and all so Hillary can pursue her own, private desire for power.

217. Hillary didn't win Texas. Check CNN: 56% of the Caucus goes to Obama, meaning he won Texas.
There aren't two Texas elections; there's one Texas election with two parts.

Obama gained 4 delegates over Hillary in the Texas election.

Texas Primary: Clinton 64/ Obama 60
Texas Caucus: Obama 35/ Clinton 32

Hillary gained 15 delegates over Obama in Ohio

Ohio Primary Clinton 77/ Obama 62/ Edwards 2

The Vermont and RI Primaries canceled one another out.

Vermont Primary: Obama 9/ Clinton 6

Rhode Island Primary: Clinton 12/Obama 9

HRC's base is rallying around the Pyrric victory of eleven delegates.

Congratulations on her Ohio win, which shows that indeed she is a formidable political figure,
but please realize that this is not the victory Hillary needed to win the election.

That's what I'm talking about. When the Clinton campaign has to resort to fraud, outright lies, fear-mongering, and such, how can they be proud? I get scared when I see my fellow Democrats buy into this Bush-Rovian style campaign stuff. What's happening to our party? I thought we believed in change? I thought we believed in hope? Instead we have people supporting the same old, same old. And Hillary is just that and worse. She has come out and has basically endorsed a Repuke for the Presidency if she can't have her way. :puke:

201. An Obama fan gives Hillary her props on winning.....
...2 1/2 states (caucus not counted yet) so far on Tuesday. However, I wonder if the Hillary fans (or Hillary herself) will acknowledge Obama's victories if he wins the upcoming "small" states of Mississippi and Montana? For some reason, Hillary and her fans did not consider Obama's victories in Kansas, Idaho, Washington, Nebraska, etc. as "real" victories because they were only "small" states. If I'm not mistaken, Hillary did not acknowledge Obama's victory in Vermont in her victory speech last night. I know she did not acknowledge his wins in the Potomac primary. How about showing a little class Hillary? Oh, and by the way, we are all Democrats on the same team, you might not want to use Rovian scare tactics in your ads.

You won! I am impressed how you run as a rebuplican ala Karl Rove tactics. impressive. There will be a day of reckoning within the party for your negative tactics. Fear mongering "IS MORE OF THE SAME". Since you openned that door, the rest of us have no choice but to follow your lead. Praising John McCain's experience will hurt you. You will make it harder for Us Obamites to vote for you. I hope you find the independents. Because the longer you continue negative, the greater the divide will be and the less likely it will be to reconcile our party in Denver. Remember, Obama carries more pledged delegates. That's the fact! with a solid month to prepair it is not going to be a cakewalk especially since you have sunken to the level of a sewer rat by playing by Bush's rules of engagement with praise for a Republican to the detriment of a Democrat. Your tax returns will play, Bill dubai connections are fair game and your lobbyist PAC money is there for all to see. Its makes a better story when the press spotlight shines on you while you get a good kneecapping from those you alienate.
So good luck with your 3rd quater touchdown. You earned it!

Don't get too excited because it's not over yet. Obama still has a significant lead in delegates. And, he should be favored to win more of the remaining states than Hillary. But then, with a little "Clinton magic" with Florida and Michigan, Obama could find himself bamboozled.

if the attacks continue based upon issues other than policy (i.e. racism, sexism, religious predjudice.) They will not allow the campaigns to destroy the party. Hillary cannot catch Obama in the delegate count unless she wins 97% of the remaining delegates. SDs will also likely vote in accordance with their districts. Hillary is not going to head the Democratic ticket without a miracle or cheating or both.

Sleeping with the president and gov. does not create leadership ability. Back seat governing does not create wisdom. Knowing all the first ladies of the world does not make you a diplomat, maybe a good shopper and sight seer.

If she is so wise, why could she not read the title stating that the bill was an authorization for use of force against Iraq? She and her Krove Jr. minions have been digging deep for any dirt they can throw at Obama and has her Media pals get it out just before a primary.

Stop hiding your dirty laundry Billary, show use the tax returns that you refuse to release.....hiding something are we?

Hillary is the best candidate to help Mclame win. I say we need a leader with vision, not an old Politician with deep lobbyist agendas to meet.

Keep your friends close, but your enemies closer.

will get 95 delegates to Obama's 98 in Texas. I think it's one up then. They also predicted since VT and RI cancel each other out that she'll net between 4 to 10 delegates for all of the voting yesterday. Not much of a dent in Obama's delegate lead. It's all about delegates...that's pretty obvious with Sen. Clinton's efforts to take MI and FL delegates, if she can maneuver that.

Our projections show the most likely outcome of yesterday's elections will be that Hillary Clinton gained 187 delegates, and we gained 183.

That's a net gain of 4 delegates out of more than 370 delegates available from all the states that voted.

For comparison, that's less than half our net gain of 9 delegates from the District of Columbia alone. It's also less than our net gain of 8 from Nebraska, or 12 from Washington State. And it's considerably less than our net gain of 33 delegates from Georgia.

The task for the Clinton campaign yesterday was clear. In order to have a plausible path to the nomination, they needed to score huge delegate victories and cut into our lead.

They failed.

It's clear, though, that Senator Clinton wants to continue an increasingly desperate, increasingly negative -- and increasingly expensive -- campaign to tear us down.

That's her decision. But it's not stopping John McCain, who clinched the Republican nomination last night, from going on the offensive. He's already made news attacking Barack, and that will only become more frequent in the coming days.

Right now, it's essential for every single supporter of Barack Obama to step up and help fight this two-front battle. In the face of attacks from Hillary Clinton and John McCain, we need to be ready to take them on.

Will you make an online donation of $25 right now?

The chatter among pundits may have gotten better for the Clinton campaign after last night, but by failing to cut into our lead, the math -- and their chances of winning -- got considerably worse.

Today, we still have a lead of more than 150 delegates, and there are only 611 pledged delegates left to win in the upcoming contests.

By a week from today, we will have competed in Wyoming and Mississippi. Two more states and 45 more delegates will be off the table.

But if Senator Clinton wants to continue this, let's show that we're ready.

This nomination process is an opportunity to decide what our party needs to stand for in this election.

We can either take on John McCain with a candidate who's already united Republicans and Independents against us, or we can do it with a campaign that's united Americans from all parties around a common purpose.

We can debate John McCain about who can clean up Washington by nominating a candidate who's taken more money from lobbyists than he has, or we can do it with a campaign that hasn't taken a dime of their money because we've been funded by you.

We can present the American people with a candidate who stood shoulder-to-shoulder with McCain on the worst foreign policy disaster of our generation, and agrees with him that George Bush deserves the benefit of the doubt on Iran, or we can nominate someone who opposed the war in Iraq from the beginning and will not support a march to war with Iran.

John McCain may have a long history of straight talk and independent thinking, but he has made the decision in this campaign to offer four more years of the very same policies that have failed us for the last eight.

We need a Democratic candidate who will present the starkest contrast to those failed policies of the past.

And that candidate is Barack Obama.

David

Just make sure you pass out the green cards and cut the ribbon for the Nafta super highway yourself.

All the poor working folks in the Midwest are looking forward to a new flood of illegals from south of the border.

Even McDonald's will be going back to slave wage mentality.

Step off the train before you hand the election to Mcsham.

who feels it necessary to enter a positive thread that says not a single negative word about your candidate, with the goal to disrupt it.

299. You're not as clever as you think you are.
Why do you keep this up when EVERY nasty sexual comment you've made to me in this thread has already been deleted. As soon as your comment was deleted, you posted it again. Are you that dense?

You've had four sexual comments deleted.

I know what you're doing now. You think you can sneak this past the mods but still get to me. That won't work, either.

Let's just fact it, shall we. BO supporters just aren't happy people. They're mean spirited, spiteful, and filled with insatiable hate-hate-hate-hate...

I continue to maintain that BO does not deserve some of you all...or maybe he does, for empowering such a bitter, hateful element in this country.

298. The Republic: OVER when Hillary is Crowned
I wrote on another topic: It makes me sick to think about how the clintons started out as economically middle class and have leveraged themselves into the SUPER- RICH ECONOMIC CLASS. Think about it: Abe Lincoln died as poor as when he got into the Presidency. He wouldn't pay to play.

The Clintons will 'revise' their tax returns. We'll never see the real thing. The system protects the RICH. Am I right?

Hillary and Bill have no interest in the welfare of the American Middle Class. They keep showing it's all about POWER AND WEALTH to and for them. Who doubts it? Look what field their daughter chose for a career. Are all of us better off than we were before Bill and George sold American jobs to CHINA?

he wrote a book about lies and the lying liars who tell them...
or wait... was it David Geffen?

"everybody in politics lies, but they do it with such ease, it's troubling," geffen said of the clintons in a New York Times interview...

Now of course your job will be to convince people it's Barack Obama who's less than honest... then crow about HR's integrity - isn't that the strategy?

Was that the strategy of the "full battle regalia" outfit and story?

Nice.

I saw enough during the Clinton years. Whatever they are or are not, they are not very honest. I believe Barack is. Funny, he was one of the few who voted against the war when the information for the war was mostly just a bunch of lies, and not very convincing ones - they didn't convince me at all - and almost everyone seemed to get on board the ol' war bandwagon...

I kind of like honesty in a person.
