1. If Gore comes out of the convention with the nom...
then I'll have a very strong suspicion that it was all scripted. Not that I'd think that was a bad thing at all (Gore getting the nomination), it's just that I've had a nagging hunch that it's been set up for a while now to allow Gore to bypass the primary process...something about Gore's coyness about running in the run up to the primaries. I have mixed feelings about it if true, Gore's easily the best man for the job, but it seems a little anti-democratic.

2. That won't happen.
We'll have an Obama, or long shot Clinton Nominee on the first Convention vote.

5. If Rove can squeeze Hillary in, the Black vote may be lost for quite a while...

But either way, the divisions and the Woman/Black thing will make the McCain victory seem entirely plausible.

And, in the end, isn't that what it's all about?

7. It will be the end of the Democratic Party.
Did anyone listen to CSPAN this morning? Hillary cannot beat McCain w/o the black vote. If she is the nominee, McCain will win and the Democratic party is over.

3. I don't know.
How "democratic" is it to have narrowed the field down so early, before most voters ever got a chance to vote?

How "democratic" will it be to have a presumptive nominee before my primary on May 20th?

The primary process isn't exactly a beacon of democracy to begin with.

Gore coming out of the convention with the nomination, while highly unlikely, is the best possible outcome from where I sit.

4. I agree, mostly...
It's the "highly unlikely" part which will confirm the "scripted" part for me, if it does come to pass.

11. There's a part of me that can see
a "scripted" primary as a possible scenario. The other part of me looks at the ugliness, the emotion, and wonders. Are people so predictable, and so easily manipulated, that a party-rendering hate-fest can be so easily accomplished?

If so, why should we value the democratic process at all, if it is so easily corrupted?

6. If it is
scripted then it's by people who are far more powerful than Democratic Party insiders.

And it's a script that seems designed to weaken the Democrats.

10. Actually, I think that's Rove's nightmare scenario...
Playing it too cute and winding up with a third candidate...

9. They're always scripted. Sometimes the script is improvised but
the story line is always followed. :dem:
