Neck and neck is the worst possible scenario. We're screwed
The Democrats are screwed.

John McCain is already able to concentrate on the election. The democrats are still in circular firing squad mode.

The Democratic primary will be close enough that whoever wins it, the other side will feel robbed.

There is vast amounts of bad blood between Clinton supporters and Obama supporters. Just look at the posts on DU - neither of them is going to have the whole party drop into line behind them.

A unity ticket would be a farce, after the number of insults they've traded.

Right now, I think the best chance the Democrats have is if Clinton and Obama agree to a game of Russian Roulette to decide the candidate, leaving behind posthumous mutual endorsements.

1. It's March 5th. The election is when?
Calm down, HRC will come to her senses after losing another couple of contests and all will be right with the world...

5. I seriously doubt it.
The OP is right. This prolonged fight between Obama and Clinton can only hurt our chances in November. Every negative attack that Clinton makes against Obama gives McCain more ammunition. And Obama is probably going to have to fight back and go more negative himself and that will probably also help McCain.

10. No way...I am now 100% convinced this is going to the convention
Neither has the totals needed to end it before the primary season is over so I think this is going to a 1st ballot on the convention floor.

2. 2-3 months after the convention, when the general election starts
The Democratic nominee will be way ahead of McCain and the in-fighting will be put aside.

11. whatever
I didn't want to look up the exact dates and clearly the range I stated includes the relevant dates. Sorry you felt the need to nit pick despite the accuracy of my bracketed numbers.

6. I think this has always been the Plan.
Keep two corporate Democrats in an ongoing race that divides the party and gives the M$M something to blather about, let the Republican candidate build focus and support, and stage a "terrorist" attack in late summer or early fall so the fear-based Republican candidate gets a boost.

13. One of my coworkers shares that theory, and...
he hypothesizes that a false-flag attack will take place at the Democratic Convention in Denver. Perfect segue to martial law and a suspended Constitution.

7. DU does not represent Democrat America
Sure there will be some young voters who only bothered to get involved because of Obama and will be immature enough to flounce off and refuse to participate in November. We can only hope the Democratic organization on the ground will help these folks mature enough to understand what is at stake and continue to participate. There is nothing even remotely like the infighting from DU going on in the world I live it. Not at all.

We shall see.

8. WRONGO! We get all the attention as John W. McBush vainly tries to get a headline.
Trust me, insults traded on DU have no bearing on anything except DU

14. That would make it a 3 way.
Hillary is already running as an unofficial co-presidency with Bill. I think it was just yesterday she said "We Clinton's had to clean up after the first Bush and we are the right one's to clean up after the 2nd Bush.".
