What happens to Edwards delegates?
Edited on Wed Mar-05-08 02:32 PM by JoeIsOneOfUs
From the early primaries. At this point are they free agents for the convention? Do some of them decide at state conventions before Denver? I know there aren't that many but with things close it crossed my mind.

edited to clear up my confusion about Iowa's local delegates vs. state ones  (http://politics.nytimes.com/election-guide/2008/results/states/IA.html)

1. Only Edwards got delegates
Edwards received 26 delegates, 14 in Iowa, 4 in New Hampshire, and 8 in South Carolina. The delegates from New Hampshire and South Carolina will be pledged to Edwards, but like any pledged delegate can vote their conscience at the convention. The delegates from Iowa are not technically selected yet, that process starts in April. At that point the Edwards state delegates can vote how they want, so they may split between Obama and Clinton or they may remain loyal to Edwards.

5. Nothing to worry about. It's a learning process for everyone.
I think that Edwards' candidates will be released after the 1st round of voting at the convention, unless he acts otherwise (releases them, endorses Obama or HIllary and recommends the delegates vote for his choice, etc)

26 delegates isn't too many - but in this race it may make the difference.
