Sirota: The Clinton-Lieberman connection (OUCH!)
http://action.credomobile.com/sirota/2008/03/the_clintonlieberman_connectio.html

Confusion and misinformation are two of the most powerful weapons in a desperate politician's arsenal. They were used by Joe Lieberman in the 2006 general election against Ned Lamont, and exit polls suggest that they helped Hillary Clinton blast her way through yesterday's primary in Ohio.

Over the last few weeks, Clinton has been telling Ohio voters she never supported the North American Free Trade Agreement - an agreement that has become a symbol of corrupt economic policies to many working-class voters. Clinton has made these claims expecting everyone to forget her speeches over the last decade trumpeting NAFTA as a great success.

Her direct quotes praising NAFTA repeatedly are not up for interpretation - and neither are her absurd claims to "have been against NAFTA from the beginning." We're talking about pure, unadulterated lying here - and lying with a purpose: To confuse enough voters into thinking she actually did oppose NAFTA and that her strong support for NAFTA is somehow the same as Barack Obama's longtime opposition to the pact. Last night's results prove the scheme worked.

1. Obama should get copies of quotes from such speeches to use in ads in states like PA, NC and Indiana
and also emphasize that since she claims part of her 35 years of experience is with the Clinton Administration that he is the president who pushed and passed NAFTA and considers it one of his crowning achievements. I think Obama could have been a little more agressive in Ohio on this point.

5. The people in Ohio believed her and voted against their own best interest.
And that is a shame. They believed she did not support NAFTA when she was in the WH with hubby when he pushed it and signed it.

6. No, Ohioans didn't trust Hillary but Hillary convinced Ohio not to trust Obama

Late Update: TPM Reader NBL chimes in ...

I'm an Ohio native and can tell you that many people I talked to referenced Obama's 'double talk' (their words, not mine) on NAFTA as their reason for switching to Clinton. They said they don't trust Clinton, but now they don't trust Obama either. I've always wondered what would happen if someone punctured Obama's aura of integrity and trustworthiness. I guess Ohio gave us the answer. I just never thought it would be someone on his own team that did the puncturing.

8. NAFTA speak
The thing is, people who lived through the rise and fall of American industry see the job losses as more like industry losses. Claiming that it is so much better to give up our job base so that people from other countries can live better just doesn't make any sense. American products never had a chance in most foreign countries, the claims of "protectionist" is insane.

21. HRC's Camp Perpetrated A Blatantly False Story...
And the M$M ran with the story, eerily reminiscent of a Bu$hco tactic. The smart people of Ohio were once again taken in.

11. I heard that she was against it, and tried to talk Bill out of supporting it.
People on this forum were saying that a while back....

So that was just flat out lying?

18. And the voters overlooked the fact that Bill Clinton was behind NAFTA!

Obama should have highlighted this more- seeing Bill would be her partner
in the WH.

Bill: Here's Hillary's messagei We're back!

Bill: If you elect me....
