The Republican 1-2
Let's say that a miracle occurs that allows Hillary Clinton to clench the Democratic nomination. You know, something like the destruction of the Democratic Party once she's selected Dubya-style by the country-club inner-circle, or Obama having a rather convenient "accident" thereby adding him to the Clinton Body Count. Whichever.

Here's McCain, basically sitting pretty in spite of his support of 8 years of failed Bush policy and his recent reversal on the use of torture, in a universe where he should by all accounts be losing his ASS were it not for the fact that he were running against the destroyed Democratic party, and he has not only Hillary's experience as an individual candidate to put on the line, but also the entire history of her husband's time in office that cost the Oval Office its "integrity." You know, all of the usual talking points. Basically the ones that GWB used in 2000 that so wowed voters. Then, he can also subtly refer to the Bush years as equally shameful for different reasons, thereby both distancing himself from both the most notorious Presidency in American history (BC) and the disliked and unpopular administration in American history (GWB), and look like the greatest guy on the effing planet. Nevermind what smart people might think. We're talking about the general American public, which has proven itself to be rather stupid over the last decade.

The guy is basically sitting pretty. It's not the nomination that worries me. It's whether whoever wins has the ability to defeat the man who is still banking on years as a "crusader" against the status quo (even though he isn't, and is in actuality a senile old man).

Tell me, Fellow Democrats. How do we defeat MCCAIN?? And don't say "by electing my guy/gal as the candidate." The fact of the matter is, BOTH candidates will have their work cut out for them, and they won't get anywhere without the party being united. We haven't gotten anywhere in years because of that. And frankly, there won't be very many Democrats left if this race gets any uglier, including me I'm afraid.

I'm worried.

2. Clinton Body Count = Joke
I was talking about miraculous longshots that would garner Hillary the nomination. Not the point of my post, at any rate.

And I've voted Democrat since I was eligible to vote. That doesn't mean, however, that I overlook and accept their flaws and don't view them as the opportunistic, money-hungry politicians that 90% of all politicians are.

3. Oh, okay, you're off the hook.
It just sounded so -- I don't know -- "Rush"-like.

5. Don't Worry, Be Happy!
Watch the video of McCain's "Victory" speech last night. This guy is beatable. Totally uninspiring and on his way out.

6. The GOP slime machine will be working overtime...
the GOP has nothing to crow about. The bush administration has come very close to, if not succeeding in destroying the GOP for many years to come.

McCain is the sacrificial goat. But this is not to sat we should not be ready to go in and vote out the entire neo-con cabal. It is really the responsibility to of all D's to ensure that these people, not just bush and his cabinet, but the neo-con members of Congress have the neo-con ideology driven from the nation in a huge up-swell of solid support.

There is much discussion about the presidency, but w/o a friendly Congress, a president has great difficulty in moving things forward. I'd like to see a 70% D Congress...with the knowledge that fiscal irresponsibility, and wars begun by remarkably stupid people so that they can control the lives and fortunes of others, are NOT American ideals.

Three things must be hammered home above all else:

The war

The economy

The public debt

We can work on other items as they come up, but these are the three big ones...and those we send to Congress need to know this as well.

7. But we had all that in 2004 as well...

The war, the debt, the national security issues, the economy problems, etc. And we didn't win. We instead got another round of Dubya. Frankly, it's still going to take a lot to surmount that obstacle. There was nothing inspiring about Bush either. He speaks like a friggen invalid. I'd like to look at McCain as the Bob Dole of 2008, an easily beatable old man, but after the last two elections, I've grown a lot more cynical, and the Democrats have become a lot more divided. We can't even seem to agree on a common political strategy. Do we get negative or take the high road? Do you think Republicans have these idealogical discussions? Of course not. They play to win, even if it's dirty. We like to think we are above that, but we tend to lose elections that way. It would just be nice to see that aggression put to use on the Republicans rather than on us destroying each other. :(

9. This time around, it is a little different, and that is because of
the youth and the #'s that are coming out for D's, (regardless of who they prefer)...those #'s are double what the R's are putting out there. There is deep seated unrest in this country, and the R's are going to pay for it, (they should, they brought on all this trouble), and I do believe this time around, if we can stick to major issues and not go off on a thousand tangents like we usually do, the GOP will be crushed.

We have to see who comes out on top for the D's...but once our candidate and McCain get into serious issues...they are going down, and hard.

8. One thing that really bothers me is that McCain right now
is setting the agenda with an assist from Hillary. And that agenda is national security. And Johnny Mac is the tough guy. And the media will play the Dems as soft. And in the media spin that will follow health care, education, inflation on and on will be lost.
