Let's say that a miracle occurs that allows Hillary Clinton to clench the Democratic nomination. You know, something like the destruction of the Democratic Party once she's selected Dubya-style by the country-club inner-circle, or Obama having a rather convenient "accident" thereby adding him to the Clinton Body Count. Whichever.
Here's McCain, basically sitting pretty in spite of his support of 8 years of failed Bush policy and his recent reversal on the use of torture, in a universe where he should by all accounts be losing his ASS were it not for the fact that he were running against the destroyed Democratic party, and he has not only Hillary's experience as an individual candidate to put on the line, but also the entire history of her husband's time in office that cost the Oval Office its "integrity." You know, all of the usual talking points. Basically the ones that GWB used in 2000 that so wowed voters. Then, he can also subtly refer to the Bush years as equally shameful for different reasons, thereby both distancing himself from both the most notorious Presidency in American history (BC) and the disliked and unpopular administration in American history (GWB), and look like the greatest guy on the effing planet. Nevermind what smart people might think. We're talking about the general American public, which has proven itself to be rather stupid over the last decade.
The guy is basically sitting pretty. It's not the nomination that worries me. It's whether whoever wins has the ability to defeat the man who is still banking on years as a "crusader" against the status quo (even though he isn't, and is in actuality a senile old man).
Tell me, Fellow Democrats. How do we defeat MCCAIN?? And don't say "by electing my guy/gal as the candidate." The fact of the matter is, BOTH candidates will have their work cut out for them, and they won't get anywhere without the party being united. We haven't gotten anywhere in years because of that. And frankly, there won't be very many Democrats left if this race gets any uglier, including me I'm afraid.
I'm worried.
