Would Hillary drop out in order to avoid revealing her financials?
If the media pressure gets too intense for her to release her and Bill's tax records, she may stay in as long as she can to do as much damage to Obama, and then drop out. Anyone willing to bet on whether we ever get to see those records?

1. I think we will as long as we keep asking her and the media about them EVERY DAY!!
Edited on Thu Mar-06-08 07:37 PM by Zachstar
Right now they are tripping all over themselves to figure out damage control over what is in those reports. They want to buy as much time as they can and we must keep the pressure on the media and her to get them public.

If she exits rather than making them public.. Oh well!! they will likely be called for in 2012 as well so there is no running away from the can of worms she has opened!

2. I love this Obama talking point shit -
Hillary is totally playing you.

She will drop it in the news hopper and walk away laughing when she feels like it and Obama's crowd won't know what to do with it because there is nothing there.

Do you honestly think that any couple who has 20 years of tax returns and financial disclosures in the public domain would all of a sudden start taking short cuts or illegal deductions? On the income side, do you really think anyone cares about their income - he is a former President for God's sake. He should be making a ton of money. He talks often about making too much money and why he should pay more taxes.

Gheez.

3. Yes. That's why she didn't disclose prior to 1980. When it came out, there were lots of questions.

16. Also ask him/her how many presidential campaigns they have run.
Just to be fair.

20. Every single time I've run for presiden, I've released my full returns to the press and put them
up on the web, and put a hard copy in each of my campaign offices.

You see, I have nothing to hide. Why wouldn't I release them?

The voters want to know that I'm clean, on the up and up.

6. Nice try. But she gains nothing by being so LATE in disclosing them....
During the debate she said she would release them, but she was too busy campaigning to do it right now.

Well, let's take her for her word. Send a volunteer over to do the Xeroxing of the tax records for her. She won't need to spend any time. Not even her paid or non-paid staff will have to spend the 30 minutes or so to Xerox the stuff. How many pages can there be? Lets say you have a slow copier and it copies 60 pages per minute. 30 times 60 is 1800. So 1800 pages can be copied in 30 minutes. It can't be THAT long.

Her "no time" excuse is so lame.

Why doesn't anyone call her on it. I will go over and donate my time to make the copies. Better yet, maybe she can just sign a waiver or something so the IRS can release copies....

What does she have to hide? It is a no win thing for her to delay if there is not any poop there. It just makes her look shifty. If brought to people's attention.

7. They will release but it will be so confusing we
will not be able to figure it out until September. Watch. Need her phone records and foundation records. Let us see who is giving them 100's of million of dollars.

12. It's not about illegal deductions
We are not asking for an IRS audit - sheesh. Haven't you been paying attention? Bill is doing favors for billionaires and foreign entities at $20M, $30M a pop. They are now using that money, their personal fortune, to fund the campaign. You don't have an issue with that? Bill collecting millions from foreign governments with one hand and putting it in Hill's campaign coffers with the other? You don't think Bill's benefactors might have some expectations if she gets in the WH? You really don't get that?

8. This buildup is going to backfire
so much is being made about the tax returns, that once they are out, the response will be ho hum.

How about this?

I'd like to see Michelle Obama's thesis. Wouldn't you?

http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0208/8642.html

The thesis, titled "Princeton-Educated Blacks and the Black Community" and written under her maiden name, Michelle LaVaughn Robinson, in 1985, has been the subject of much conjecture on the blogosphere and elsewhere in recent weeks, as it has been "temporarily withdrawn" from Princeton's library until after this year's presidential election in November. Some of the material has been written about previously, however, including a story last year in the Newark Star Ledger.

Why keep it a secret?

9. That is Rovian dirt-digging
while disclosing one's tax returns is standard and expected.

Let's see those tax returns: if there's nothing unusual in them then why the foot-dragging? Is her campaign waiting for the negative stories about some of her large donors to come out, first?

10. Publishing a thesis is also standard practice
ripping it off the shelves until the day after an election is a bit obvious don't you think?

13. Theses usually aren't published
Edited on Thu Mar-06-08 08:40 PM by FedoraLV
They may be revised and turned into books -- and then they go through the normal procedures of any book to be published -- but usually only two copies are kept: one at a national and another at the school's archives.

Librarians often remove items (like the campus' single archival copy of a public figure's thesis) if they think they may be damaged or stolen because of their value or notoriety.

Besides, you can order yourself a copy of her thesis right now, if you'd like:
