Author of "Change you can Xerox" line identified
...
Still, buried in the piece, we find evidence that Penn was not the only guy in the room with a bad idea. In fact, Penn can claim immunity from prosecution on one of Clinton's most thundering duds:

In Austin on Feb. 21, Clinton had a solid debate performance, although her aides groaned as she accused Obama of offering "change you can Xerox." The line, advisers said, was offered during debate preparation by Bruce Reed, a Clinton White House official, but onstage it came across as forced and drew boos.

Reed is, by the way, president of the conservative Democratic Leadership Council.

1. Love the smell of hypocrisy
As if Hillary writes 100% of her own speeches. She didn't even write the damn Xerox line... this is getting meta.

2. those zingers would work better with someone who is more likeable
If Jay Leno or someone would toss those out there they would be funny. But when Clinton does it I feel like it only reinforces some of the negative things people (rightly or wrongly) feel about her.

7. As always, blame the writer.
Let's be fair to Bruce Reed. It's not a great line but it's not terrible. It's not necessarily boo-worthy on its own. The delivery is what fell flat.

She can write her own lines or hire others to write them for her but the bottom line is she is simply not fit for the role.
