Framing: Possible upside of primary fight
There is a good chance that all the attention will be on Obama and Clinton and that McCain won't be able to get attention for his message (such as it is) from the media.

It could begin to look like the Democratic race is the REAL presidential election and that the November contest will be a formality this time around.

So far, the right has gotten away with spinning the situation as "disarray" in the Democratic ranks. They talk about our candidates beating each other up and making each other into "damaged goods."

We need to start a new narrative that says what I think is really true: That people are so darned interested in the Democratic primaries and caucuses because they want a Democratic president to be elected. And they want to be sure that the Democrat they nominate will be the best possible president.

Again: the Democratic race is the REAL contest. McCain is a placeholder. After July, Americans will have chosen the president. November will confirm that.

1. It's a bit late
A good idea, but too late. Florida and Michigan gone, veiled threats of riots at the convention by Obama supporters, "fuck you Hillary" posts from DU being circulated all over the wing nut forums, blogs and papers. Wingnuts picked up on the chaos and ran with it.

2. Not too late at all
You forget that people who post here are more "tuned in" to the campaigns than the average American. It's not to late to change the debate out there among people who are not "politicos."

4. I hope you have better luck than I have
I think I have sent over 1000 emails in the last 2 weeks to try to "re-spin" this. It doesn't appear to be working. I wish you much luck

7. McCain = Invisible Man
That should be our take on all of this. While people are focusing on the fight between two superstar titans -- attending big rallies, tuning into debates between them, etc. -- McCain is the Invisible Man. He is the Maytag repair man of this race.

3. Obama can be the democrat
and right wingnut radio can be against him.

5. True, but a split turned off democratic party electorate
contains a real danger.

6. It depends on how negative the campaign stays
If things continue on this course of ugliness, I fear too many angry Dems will decide to stay home in Nov.

8. That could literally
destroy America. We're heading for a real fall if we don't face up to some problems. And McCain's ideas will lead to more debt, a weaker dollar and insolvency for the federal government.
