Would Hillary choose war over diplomacy just to prove she's tough?
I've been thinking about this lately. If she becomes president she will be under enormous pressure to prove she's tough on foreign policy. Will she choose war over diplomacy to keep from looking weak? You know the republicans will hound her on being weak if she chooses diplomacy. Whats everyone think?

because a woman can't be considered 'tough', independent of starting a war?
Good luck with this . . .

11. We're just pointing out the truth.
It appears that Hillary Clinton believes she has to be hawkish in order to be perceived as strong.

15. 'it appears'
. . . in your biased mind, I think, because of your OWN impression that the only way she can demonstrate 'toughness' is to initiate a military conflict abroad.

3. That is my biggest fear about Hillary..
That she will feel she has to prove herself tough? And we will have another war under Hillary?

7. I would suggest
that the fucking piss poor disaster of a job the republicans and their supporters have done over the past eight years (relative to foreign policy in this thread) puts them in no position to pressure anyone to do anything. And Senator Clinton actually listens to our military leaders, believe it or not the vast majority do not want to send their men and women into unnecessary conflicts. And obviously from reading the posts of Obama supporters she doesn't have to prove she's tough.

9. Yes. She will run to the right on Iraq, too, to compete with McCain on hawkishness.

10. Already did it
She's been running for president ever since she got elected to the senate. Didn't even read the entire NIE before deciding war was the way to go.

12. She already has, the IWR, Kyle Lieberman,
All of this was done as a cold political calculation with an eye towards the future of her own political career foremost in her mind. Sadly, she was willing to sacrifice the lives of hundreds of thousands and the good of our nation all on the altar of her ambition. This is a big reason that I can't vote for her.

13. Agree with the others in this thread: she already did
Her vote for the IWR was forced. She had to show she was hawkish in order to keep her viable for the '08 election.

So in my mind, she already has done just that.

14. Who knows? It depends upon which of her many moods she's in
when it comes up I suppose. Would we get the weepy, poor little defenseless Hillary? Would we get the shrew? Would we get Bill instead? Who knows?
