Obama/McCaskill.... Obama/Clark. Either would unite the party and easily defeat McCain
Edited on Fri Mar-07-08 11:17 AM by Leopolds Ghost
Think about it. (Claire McCaskill, D-MO)

If you'd seen her on TV, you'd understand

I may not agree with everything she feels
politically, but she radiates sincerity
and thoughtfulness. She is from Missouri
a keystone state. She would be the first
female VP. She does not come off as a
DLC-er per se. Could definitely swing MO.

Obama/Clark -- the reasons have been
talked about at length. Better than
McCaskill on foreign policy strength.
A traditional liberal. Also from the
heartland (but doesn't have a strong
base there anymore.) Scotch-Irishman
from the South. Against the Iraq war.
Good soldier for both Clinton and
Kerry. Did more to help Kerry than
Edwards did, despite his job-based
loyalty to Clinton. Could possibly
swing Arkansas and Virginia, two border
south states. Clark could carry Obama's
message into states like Louisiana and
Florida where race is an issue. Doesn't
lose an all-important Senate seat in VA.
More of a civil libertarian than
McCaskill or Webb (see FISA). (If
FISA is passed by Dems, who cares
whether Dems win or not in Congress?
They'll be useless either way.)

2. Didn't Clark endorse Clinton?
That would make things a little sticky for a pick, no? I understand he's a good choice for anyone, but I don't know that it will happen.

I could get behind McCaskill, though. Someone from the midwest would be cool. Or maybe the Southwest.

Or, of course, the best choice ever, Barbara Boxer!

6. That's the point... unite the party
He can reach out to Clintonites but he's not a force on the wedge issues
between Obama and Clinton, he's closer to Obama on issues like the war.
And he proved in 2004 that he would be a happy warrior for the nominee.
(Edwards insisted on taking the high road while Clark played attack dog...
despite the fact that his patrons the Clintons didn't like Kerry any more
than Obama and didn't expect him to win.)

10. Sounds good to me
If it can be pulled off, I think Clark would be a great choice.

8. 50-state Landslide strategy?
Alas, she and Sebelius don't bring a state with them and Sebelius
(like Webb) is needed at home because they are better than the
alternative that would replace them if they got elected to higher
office.

5. I voted for McCaskill and while she is better than
the repuke Sen. Talent that she replaced, she's not as progressive as I would like.

I wonder now how much of a Democrat she is.

7. She and Webb (and union liberal Mikulski!) both voted for FISA
That being said, I don't know Clark's stance on FISA.

I would definitely prefer Clark, but after hearing all
this talk on DU about the sincere hopes a lot of women
had for Hillary as the first female president, I would
certainly prefer McCaskill to Clinton.

Like I said, if she is more conservative Dem, she is
sincere in her politics unlike Hillary IMO who is just
as conservative on most issues.

11. McCaskill is my senator
and I disapprove of her votes much more often than not. She's better than Talent, but I don't want to see her as VP.
