* * * *OFFICIAL HOWARD DEAN APPRECIATION THREAD* * * *
Give it a kick and a rec if you think Howard Dean is the best DNC chair we've ever had.

Thanks, Howard, for 2006 and another great win that will happen in 2008. There hasn't ever been Democratic participation like this in caucuses and primaries. You've switched the fundraising totals in Democrats' favor by 10's of millions of dollars. You are making sure everyone plays by the rules.

Keep up the good work.

:applause:

132. They broke the rules? A GOP legislature and governor set that primary date.
The GOP ensured the disenfranchisement of FL Democrats, and Dean aided and abetted them.

It's not like every name wasn't on THAT ballot.

167. WRONG!!!! A Dem introduced the bill, vote was 115-1
had the dems legitimately opposed the bill and put up some fight, the DNC rules provide that they could be seated. The delegates were stripped b/c Fl Dems were complicit. they wanted to be bigshots and jump to the head of the line, and thought they could make the DNC back down.

It's more important to win than let people vote?

If we don't solve FL somehow, either by a "do over" or seating that delegation, FL will go to McCain. Adios, con el corazon...

214. A GOP legislature PASSED the bill, a GOP governor signed it.
There are Zell Millers everywhere. You're gonna fuck the voters for that reason?

A hundred and fifteen assholes from both parties are going to be permitted to disenfranchise MILLIONS?

I guess a person's vote really doesn't count. Sure as fuck doesn't in at least two states.

218. Cool it with the faux outrage
your vote wasn't taken away, and you hillbots are a lot more outraged than us Floridians. The legislature and State Party fucked up... maybe it can be rectified, maybe it can't. Anyway, it's the legislature and State party officials who are paying the price. They look like complete fools and idiots... and they'll have to face re-election at some point. That's how to solve the problem, not by changing the rules mid-game. Plan now is to vote by mail, which complies with the rules. Still figuring out how to pay for it. Hillary probably won't win by as big a margin as before, but I imagine she'd still win comfortably, something like 53-47.

Annnd, its been explained to you several times before, and you refuse to listen. I'll try it again, with bullet points:

> It doesn't matter which party controls the house when the vote is 115-1.

> Nobody forced this on the Dems, they were not only willing participants, they were avid cheerleaders.

>Biggest cheerleader of all was Sen Bill Nelson, he led the charge. He's a big Shrillary supporter, I guess he wanted to score points with her by "delivering" the state. She would benefit from an earlier election b/c of name recognition. So basically, he fucked up most of all. That's who the hillbot's outrage should be directed at.

> Gov Crist is a go with the direction the wind is blowing guy... real empty suit. Of course he signed a bill that passed 115-1. I doubt he cared one way or another, and he certainly wasn't active in pushing the bill through.

> There's nothing we voters can really do, other than wait for these asshats to come up for re-election and vote against them. All the faux outrage in the world isn't going to help.

> Leg and FDP would like to remedy the situation (cover their asses), but money is a big issue. Plus, repukes (who had 50% of their delegates stripped by GOP)would scream bloody murder at spending tight tax funds to bail out the Dem asshats that created the mess.

> Howard Dean did not create the problem. FL and MI broke the agreed upon rules. Rules Committee (which Harold Ickes from Hillary's campaign was on) determined FL and MI broke the rules and stripped the delegates. All the candidates agreed to it. Now Hillary wants to change the rules. Dean is in the position of enforcing the rules.

> Had the DNC taken no action against FL and MI, doesn't that disenfranchise all the millions of voters in 48 states and several territories that did play by the rules? Do you want a system that penalizes cheaters, or one that penalizes those that play by the rules?

219. Yeah, you're right. Fuck millions of voters. Your vote, and theirs, shouldn't count.
Hand FL to McCain, because Democrats aren't wanted or needed or even welcomed, if they are from FL.

Silly me, giving a shit about the franchise.

I don't give a fuck if they seat the delegation or have a do-over, they need to let those people vote...

222. >Votes in GE still count
> the candidate will be able to campaign and run ads. The penalty was only for the primary.

> If anyone doesn't welcome Dems in FL, its the DLC. They only care about a spot at the greed trough. That's why they were willing to gamble with our votes - it didn't mean anything to them.

>Its up to the Credentials Committee whether to seat the delegates... at this point I'd say chances are 10% a full delegation will be seated, maybe 40% a partial delegation will be seated. A revote will comply with the rules, but there's no money. Chances of a revote I'd put at 50/50.

>Most Florida voters understand their "leaders" fucked up. Still, most of the "outrage" is from the Hillary camp. I suspect if Obama had won the state the Hillbots would be screaming not to count the votes... in fact, I'm sure of it. There is no hypocrisy like Hillary Hypocrisy...

226. When you disenfranchise in the primary, you AFFECT the GE.
The fucking DLC has jackshit to do with this situation, but smooth move, bringing in The Perennial Boogeyman. It's the FL legislature, the governor of the state, and Howard Dean at the DNC who need to come to terms here, and stop playing this bullshit game of chicken.

If they can't get behind seating the full delegations, they need to have a do-over.

I happen to agree with those who feel that unrepresentative, sparsely populated, predominantly caucasian and very small states like Iowa, that chooses people with an undemocratic caucus, and NH, with their 'first in the nation' insistence, should cease being the gatekeepers with regard to who gets early consideration. We are NOT the America of the "old days," where people were not mobile, and rural concerns differed substantially from urban ones. Nowadays, we're in that frigging global village, and the large states with diverse populations and mixed economies--the ones that actually CONTRIBUTE to the nation more than they get back--ought to have a say in the process as well, rather than bringing up the rear and "rubber stamping" the decisions of others, many of whom are "welfare" states that take more from the federal coffers than they contribute.

I could get behind a series of "national primaries" with run-off elections, rather like they do in some other countries. Let the gaggle debate, then hold a primary, let the top three have an extended period of campaigning, and then do another run-off, with each election happening nationwide, preferably on a weekend rather than this Tuesday bullshit, on the same day.

Sorry, but you are only half right. The Democrats willingly went along with the Republican program as they thought they would become more important nationally, instead they became irrelevant.
I know Florida politics very well. Just know that a lot of so-called Democrats in Florida are really Republicans that have changed registration in order to destroy the Democrat Party in that state. ALL DEMS IN FLORIDA NEED TO BE VIGILANT.

209. Not true.
The legislation to move up the date was originated by a Dem, and all the Dems in the legislature supported it DESPITE knowing that it was a violation of the party rules which had been agreed upon for over a year.

This was nothing more than a power play by the DLC, meant to undercut Dean's (and the party's) authority. They were pissed about McAuliffe being replaced by an insurgent.

Let's get this straight, Either we are a country of laws or we aren't. Either everyone lives by the rules, or they don't. If they break the law or they break the rules, there are consequences. The FL Dem Party broke the rules and they have to live with the consequences.

If you don't like it, move to another country.

216. "Rules" are more important than enfranchisement. Funny, that's what they used to say down south
before voting/civil rights legislation was passed.

"The rules say that you have to take this TEST, see heah?"

"The rules say you have to pay a POLL tax, yeah...!"

I am not in favor of "rules" created by fewer than two hundred people disenfranchising MILLIONS. It's just wrong.

DLC's 'let's just pretend we're winners, and hope they don't notice reality' strategy = lose.

It bears repeating but doesn't need updating.

Aside from that, good for you for realizing what's really going on--the genocide of progressive Dems by forcibly ousting Dean and coronating Hillary. Operation DLC Uber Alles, I call it.

I wanted him to run, but it is a great advantage for him to chair the DNC. If Obama wins, it will represent a monumental shift in power, it will mean the administration, states, and party apparatus are all controlled by people from the states rather than DC insiders. That is very significant.

65. BIG kick for Dr. Dean!
I support Hillary, but I agree with what he's done about Fla. and Michigan. I do feel for the voters there, but they can thank their state leadership for flaunting the very rules they had approved, along with the rest of the states.

Dean's 50-state strategy has proved to be a winner in 2006, and will be a winner again in 2008.

He shoulda been president!

I'm confident that after election 2008, he will be kept on as chairman, if that's what he wants. The 50 state plan has worked very well as has the Democracy For America organization, outgrowth of Dean For America, that supports the election of progressive leaders to congress.

Dean was my first choice for President last time, Obama was my first choice this time. I sure can pick em' (I guess nearly 50 years as a Democrat gives me a little insight) Even if neither of them wound up being the nominee, they are superior Democrats in every way. Of course, I DO believe Obama will be this time.

Once I heard him speak in error on something that really ticked me off. I left a message at his office and someone called back, with concern and word directly from Howard that he knew he messed up and felt badly about it.Same day. Like magic. I wish our candidates this year were more like that.

127. He's not showing a lot of leadership, if you ask me.
He's caught between a rock and a hard place (just like Presidents often are). Either he enforces the rules and disenfranchises millions of FL/MI Democratic voters (which could bite us all in the GE), or he comes up with a creative solution.

So far, he's not doing much on the creative solution part.

135. Governor Dean WILL NOT let Hillary destroy the Party!
As a former Deaniac who despised Terry McAuliffe (and still do!) I am so happy that Gov. Dean has been able to implement his 50-state plan. It has helped to bring this party back to national relevance after the "50+1" strategy nearly drove it into the ground.

And to think that Clinton has McAuliffe as the Chairman of her campaign (plus Penn and Ickes), jeez, that's just not good. The absolute farce of a campaign that they have run will be held as an example of how NOT to organize, strategize and publicize a campaign. Now they are in extensive "garbage time" as Marv Albert used to say.

I have to think that Gov. Dean knows the score, and he will do what needs to be done to stop Hillary from this Pyrrhic defeat that she seems so intent to capture. If he works behind the scenes, fine, if he is out in front, okay, just get it done!

If he can pull this off, he DESERVES another term and probably two!

164. Much pressure?....Let's hope it's just not from the DLC - Howard Dean has been great...
Hate to see James Carville or another DLC corporate punk (McAuliffe) take his place....if so, the democratic party (DNC) will be in the hands of moderate republican "lites"....They want to blame Dean for everything and every loss as if it's his fault, yet, they want to take the credit for his many Democratic triumphs, i.e., his 50 state strategy...

Then the DLC can get their conservative Dems elected...very sad.

Dean is, and has been a torn in the side of the republicans as well as the DLC.

What a huge loss Dean would mean...he has kept the moderate to right self-interest corporate "Dems" at bay!

I guess that's where we are heading though....One in the same as the filthy, lying republican corporate slime....

Because we really missed out on something special.

I saw him on C-Span one time, addressing the Canadian Parliament (if I recall correctly).

He told a joke in French. Our President can't speak English. Dean can speak English AND another language.

Last time he was torpedoed in a big way as the DNC chair, I sent some money. I was employed back then, so I could afford to do that. I don't think the nice guy in India who was sent my job is sending Dean a check this year. Hopefully I can get a job soon and send another little bit.

especially knowing that their house Republicans were the ones who pushed the date forward, and Democrats tried to stop it, but could not.

The voters of Fl. shouldn't have to pay for your short sightedness.

We shouldn't have to pay for your colossal missteps.

You should pay yourself for another election, if that's what you want.
